Better Deck?
On 10/16/2006 Zack wrote in from (161.253.nnn.nnn)

I'm trying to decide which to get between these three decks:

Madrid Bomber 46.5"

Fibreflex Pin 44"

Landyachtz 45"

Can anyone tell me about them... construction? how they ride?

Bare Back boards

Not sure about Bare Back boards but Envy (and maybe Greenbrew) used to make a similar snowboard with wheel holes shape.

Any decks similar to Sector 9 Cloud 9
On 10/15/2006 Todd wrote in from (124.168.nnn.nnn)

I'm looking for a new deck for all round riding. I currently have a sector 9 cloud nine and love it cause it cruises ok and is also good for ollieing and all round riding. Are there any other decks similar from other manufacturers that are better or should i just stick with another sector 9? The riding i do is mainly cruising hills, bombing the occasional hill and a bit of general street riding.

Also does anybody know of any online shops that sell decks and other gear cheap?? cheers

Bong's Bamboo Quest
On 10/11/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Try the "Home Made Boards" forum, likely someone there can give you a heads up. However, I think most of those guys are buying pre-laminated bamboo flooring material and using that only or laminating thin layers of the same thing to other woods. Check that forum, those guys know more about it. -Good Luck, Paul

beginning ...
On 10/9/2006 Derik wrote in from (145.254.nnn.nnn)

Best idea is to visit your local skate shop and try a few boards. Some skateparks rent boards as well. A blind recomendation is a versatile board between 39 and 44 inch lenght and a kicktail. Randal trucks ans some nice Abec 11 wheels. But better try before you buy.

how do i make bamboo decks?
On 9/29/2006 bong wrote in from Philippines  (203.84.nnn.nnn)

I am from the Philippines, i play carve boarding a lot. I also make my own decks made from ordinary philippine woods since we don't have maple here. It is actually pretty good too, its very durable, even a car wont break it in half..(exageration ofcourse..but yeah you get my point). i was searching the internet and chanced upon decks made from bamboo. this is very intresting because bamboos grow abundantly in the philippines. does anyone know how to make bamboo decks?

lee, if you want super solid speedboard equipment that is tried and true, get a landyachtz evo deck, some randal dh trucks, some abec 11 flywheels and any quality bearing (maybe abec 11 biltins), and of course good saftey equipment. this setup is good for standup speedboarding- not for lying down on. drifting generally happens when you are taking a somewhat tight turn and your wheels don't have enough traction so they break loose (slide). drifting is a purposeful, controlled, and highy directional movement initiated by the rider. the point is to take the corner with a smooth line, without losing much speed- drift as you have to but them hook back up as soon as possible. it's not easy to do without scrubbing too much speed- i've been speedboarding for a couple years and drifting at high speeds is something that i still have a lot of room to improve in. hope this lengthy junk helps!

New at LongBoards
On 9/23/2006 Lee wrote in from United Kingdom  (83.138.nnn.nnn)

Hi, Im one of the oldschool crew who rode downhill in a kinda luge stance on boards smaller than longboards with the old Cotton Reel "SNOWY SMITH" M2 Wheels way way back in the 70's. Im still into boarding but have moved from South Africa to Saudi Arabia "working". I recently found some massive hills that I want to try out. OK so I dont have a luge Board, please advise what would be the best deck, best wheels and best trucks for some serious downhill speed runds. And PS I have no idea what drifting is or means....sorry guys.....I can get up to apporx 90 KMPH lying down...need to go faster.....DONT WANT SPEED WOBBLES.....Please HELP.....Lee Davis - South African living in the Hot Saudi Arabia......PS....Money is no object.

wobble bobble
On 9/19/2006 papcheese wrote in from United States  (67.166.nnn.nnn)

speed wobble comes from way too loose trucks and not enough leg muscles on your legs. yes it is supposed to happen if your trucks dont have enough pressure on the bushings, and if your legs havent memorized what to do when you reach speed. So tighten trucks, traine legs, and reach good speeds. and try to move your feet to different parts of your board to gain better stance and balance

speed wobbles
On 9/19/2006 Derik wrote in from Germany  (193.7.nnn.nnn)

Try to tighten the rear truck first, that will help a little. If it still wobbles try harder bushings, but that will affect the cruising. A Cruiser is not a downhill Racer, so avoid speeds above the sound barrier.

Wobbles
On 9/18/2006 Michael wrote in from United Kingdom  (87.112.nnn.nnn)

Meek, well done, tyou have experianced the sound barrier of skaiting, 'speed wobble'.

It can be caused by a number of things, such as truck tightness, truck width, angles and wheelbase.
What I alway suggest is that something should be different on one of the trucks, like a bushing, or tightness. In my mind that helps stop a wobble starting.

Help us out here, what kind of setup are you riding?

SubSonic Skateboards
On 9/9/2006 Eddy Texas Outlaws wrote in from United States  (70.115.nnn.nnn)

I bought a Subsonic Lowland about a month ago. I finally gave it a workout the other night. The board is very manuverable, cuts through cones quite easily. I emailed Scott at Subsonic if he could make the same board for me with a kicktail. Tonight I get an email from him saying the board is finished. Ready to be drilled, stained, AWESOME!!!!!! She will look great with some Zig Zags, G O G Trucks. I am like a kid waiting to open his Christmas presents. STOKED ALLWAYS Eddy Texas Outlaws.

Hey Andre,

Skaterbuilts are tough for sure (I own 2 of them), but East Coast decks are pretty near indestructable.

www.eastcoastskates.com

Their site is apparently being updated right now, but call 'em on the phone. Their boards really are awesome.
