Comet Tiki Customized

Got done setting up my new Comet Tiki. Got rid of my Comet 40" park and Comet Proflex Downhill 44", cause the TIKI is the best of both rolled into one.
Now I love Comet's but without wheel cutouts I was restricted to 65mm wheels. SF pavement is atrocious and requires lots of soft urathane to roll along...so I have the custom wheel cutouts so I could ride 70mm Grippins for regular city riding. Love the NoSchoolz 96a for sliding on the Tiki board, tho.
Also gave it a tail-gaurd cause I do a lot of tail-grinds for speed control at lower speeds.
Anyway the TIKI is real real nice with seismic 180's and grippins, with 1/8" shockpad. Carve-o-rama, and it has a nicely balanced kicktail. No so much a longboad as just an adult size skateboard. New favorite.
Now if only comet would make a 57" EdEcon-ish board with their awesome construction materials/technique.

Thanks for the conditioning advice rj.
Too bad I'm not a pro skater that can skate all day, that would help.
I will try to skate, train and work out as much as I can. You are right, in that conditioning is going to be a major factor in a 7 mile push race.
In addition to distance skating, I do a lot of hindu squats (body weight squats) and pistols (one leg squats).
I already have my board being made. But I know you are a deck shaper, and I am wondering, If you were to design a board for this type of race what would it be like?

They always say the best skaters are unemployed...not my saying but one that rang true for my old race days. I would be able to practice and race more if not for the shackles of employment...lol Words to think about.

Real nice deck --- zero concave...One thing to be aware of... it's only a 7 ply, so at that length, it's a pretty flexy ride.........

Anybody ride one of these yet? I want a longer than 40'' deck for liquorstore/bank/ditch/street riding with with a kicktail, 10'' wide +. Looks pretty good and I thought of it when I saw the post over on pools/parks about the SMA 36'' X 10.5'' which sounds like it rocks.
Thanks!

or the most part broadway is flat. You just have to get use to riding in medium/heavy traffic. it takes place in october so you have time.
Suggestions...uh watch for traffic, wear protection, practice, know when to say that's too risky.
seven miles of pushing is rough. I did it twice this past week. it not that bad when its over.
there should be uphill races.

Um, I don't know much about the broadway bomb.
Is it a real downhill race? What can you tell me about it?
I don't mind waiting 'till may, because I need a lot of training and practice. I'll skate as much as I can, and in the winter when I can't I'll work out with my conditioning program. Seven miles of pushing is going to be a challenge, I would think.
Any suggestions, tips, ect? I'm looking for an edge, I need all the help I can get.

I love Curve Skateboards!
I am waiting for Swift 40 that Scott is building. The anticipation is brutal.
I agree with Joshua, the customer service is AWESOME!
I'm going to use the Swift 40 in the annual NYC Central Park Race in May.

Frank-It's like a Cadillac with a Ferrari engine. Nice deep concave and the progressive drop makes you feel VERY secure. It's the fastest I've ever gone on a skateboard. Very stable ride, and some of the best customer service you will find. Excellent craftsmanship-top notch! I highly recommend Curve Skateboards! If you want something a little longer,go with the Swerve46. Same drop as the Swift40,but longer with a different tail.

ethan, if you're looking for something with a similar feel to the drop carve, but with a bigger tail with more lift, check out the PUG from Rayne Longboards. 42" plenty of flex, great for bombin hills and riding bowls. I cut a drop through on one that I have and it just rips. check out the site www.raynelongboards.com

Landy Drop Carve Setup
|
On 8/9/2004 ethan

Lets talk Landy Drop Carve setup - specifically wheels and tail
85mm Kryptos the Good: The 85mm Kryptos are really fast and roll forever. They are especially great on the lousy pavement of San Francisco. The 85's also give you a little more room/leverage to use the kicktail (which is almost flat) The Bad: My feet were touching the wheels when I slid my foot back to do a slide. This is due to a combination of short tail, wheel cutouts and huge wheels. Reason enough for me to switch to smaller wheels.
70mm Clear Kryptos (cause I had them around): The Good: My feet have stopped hitting the wheels. The board is 1.5 centimeters lower, making pushing, footbraking and hard carving easier. The Bad: Not as forgiving of bad pavement as the 85mm's, and the roll isn't as great. The board is now so low that I regularly end up with my ass sliding on the ground when I do low drop knee turns. Not sure if thats good or bad, actually.
I like this board a lot but I'm not very happy with the kicktail. Wish it was longer with more lift. Not sure if that is possible with the drop thru truck setup. Big hole in the board mught make it to weak for a longer kick. So....
Thinking about adding a toe block or modifying one of those foam kicktail wedges Gravity makes for use on the drop carve, cause the kicktial needs something if its gonna be usefull.
Gah. I'm really starting to want a custom deck.
