Julien- thanks for the heads up about comet's "Lost" deck. I tried it out at the skunk, but I think I'm either gonna go with landyachtz ‘the smoke’ cause it has a lil pocket for the front foot with a teeny bit of kicknose to help bully the front of the board around a bit.
Maybe I should wait for that Concrete Wave Buyers guide, anyway, and skate my crookedly re-drilled park deck for a few more weeks - give it a good thrashing before it gets retired.

The newest version of the 36" Comet proflex is really sweet. I think its called the "Lost" deck or something. My buddy picked one up from purple skunk over the winter and loves it. Plus I think all the 2004 comet boards are still on sale right now for real cheap+free shipping on their site

The Smoke, similar boards?

I'm considering buying "the Smoke" park/pool from Landyachtz, does anyone know of similar decks? A park/pool deck 36 to 38 inches, no kick or minimal kick in front?
Currently I am using a 36 inch Comet park deck that I redrilled (moved the front trucks foward an inch, cause I'm not used to a lot of leverage with kicknoses. My redrill job was so-so its a 'lil off, I'm kinda bummed about it.
Anyway, if anybody's got any tips I got a week till payday.

Palm Sander. It will take the finish off, but will not damage the wood (unless you hang in one spot long enough to let it)
A word of caution....screen printing goes deep...in a laminated deck, you may take off 1 entire layer before you get the entire hue out.

I ride Scott's SubSonic slalom boards when I want a wood concave/non-camber slalom board for tight and hybrid slalom courses and I'm VERY happy with the results. The current deck I am riding is not yet on his website. I am not much of a downhiller anymore (due to back, neck and shoulder problems) so I'm not commonly doing more than low to mid 30's at doing G/S. However, I did get talked into doing a downhill run with/by Scott, Aaron and Josh and to ride one of the SubSonic dropped-down type of decks. I've never ridden one before but it was VERY stable and comfortable, especially since it was someone else's board and I was the "slow" guy at 42(?)mph. I HIGHLY recommend it. Scott's website is: www.subsonicskateboards.com If you go to the homepage and look at the bottom at "cafeteria" or something like that you'll see most of what you want to know as well as clicking on the main deck images on the homepage. Scott at subsonic makes them one at a time, and only sells them himself. This is the only way to get one.

Hey KT I own a curve (which is now subsonic) swift 40. I have had it around 35mph and it is stable. I set it up with a Randal DH base plate back and an R2 front plate. It gives good turning and is does not wobble at this speed. It is a dropped platform ala landy evo which makes pushing a breeze. However it doesn't have the funny angles that change the truck geometry. It doesn't sit too low either all for about $70. I forgot to mention Scott will stain or paint any color for a couple extra bucks, he also has a few different grip patterens. Anyways these are just my opinions. Happy hunting.

I would have to agree with my brother from another mother dankdownhiller. If you want a 48 x 10.5 stiff deck that will be stable at 35mph and up and will carve curb to curb like a snowboard. I can personaly recomend the BOZI MAD BOMBER 2 with 180 sizemic trucks and wheels of your choice. all the downhillbillies love that set up and atleast 4 of us own one and use it for our primary board. happy hunting from DOWNHILLBILLIES HILL KILLER D.HOLT

The comet voodoo "aka team speed" is basicly the highly decorated team speedboard of the last 5 years, with a snazzy graphic. SICK BOARD FOR UNDER 100 BUCKS! you get snowboard formulated epoxy, triaxial glass, carbon fiber, and two vertlam poplar/hickory cores. There is a reason the snowboard industry got away from horizontaly laminated maple quickley in its evolution. Comet knows composites. p.s. david "caveman" bryant won the U.S.champs on one last year and Patrick "the rizzler" Rizzo won on one the year before that in that same race. Set it up with indies or r2's for general mayhem or bolt up some speed trucks and big wheels and drop in and test your sack

Does anyone know a good speed or downhill board? I am kind of looking for a board that is good downhill and at high speed (35mph), but a board that is also good for cruising. In other words I kinda want a well rounded board leaning towards speed. Thanks!

any word on Sector 9's speedboard? http://www.sector9.com/2004/ platinum series->cosmic trylam. it looks like the comet speedboard w/ more nose/tail and maple instead of balsa. has anyone ridden it? even better, has anyone ridden both boards (sector/comet speed) and could compare them? or comparisons to other boards on the market like dregs/big red x/landies; hows it stack up?

Ryan, we have lots of them! (Well actually they are in stores), as we import them to the UK. In case you didnt know they are well made, laminate with glass fibre layers, many in the range take their cues from 'Swiss' style decks, but come with more width, making them excellent cruising and pumping machines.Mind you I love the pintail....
Feedback we've had from stores is that they appreciate the grip coming standard, and the quality of the simple things, like drilling. Insect also have a hand in making the performance series decks for Roe Racing, so their standards are high.
Of course we are biased, but we choose carefully what we import, and Insect is one of those companies we love dealing with.

Comet Scramjet
wheelbase: 21.25", nose: 1.875", tail: 6.5 Bamboo, maple, expoxy, fibreglass carbon fibre tail camber with concave and kicktail
I had Purple Skunk set the board up with seismic 155’s quickturns in front and back. I might go with the stable 30 degree baseplates in the back tho. I put Comet Grey 80a wheels on it for general skating around San Franiciso Metro area.
This board is JUST enough wood for me to do my maneuvers and get into a drop knee…nothing extra. I can carve the steeps, pull slides, easily pump on the flats and even skate bowls… it’s a good all-around board. I started out carving around in the Presidio Parking lot… then moved to steeper places to practice sliding on it. Slides easy.
Yesterday I took it to Rivera for the downhill carving test. The first run I did on the gravity diamond tail, the board I’ve been riding the most lately. Then 2 runs on the Comet Scramjet. The Scramjet performed a lot better for me. The concave at the front foot position on the Scramjet makes doing kickturns and slides a LOT easier. Anyway, the Scramjet was just plain more fun on that hill for me.
Yesterday I took it to the SF skatepark (the one by the Cow Palace on Geneva) and it performed well. I’m not very good at park skating so I’ll I can tell you is that I did a lot better bowl skating on the Scramjet than I usually do on my ‘park’ board. Go figure. I still had the soft wheels on it, tho, so it sould have been faster. The kicktail is stiff enough for park use, but the board has more flex than most prefer for park skating. Fine with me, tho.
Anyway, in the final analysis, I think I prefer the Scramjet over the Diamond Tail, and my other boards like the Tiki and the loaded Vanguard for most skating. For faster downhill sessions I'll still be using my Tiki with wider trucks.
Maybe with the difference in length and wheelbases its like comparing apples and oranges… but for me the Scramjet is better on the flats, better on the hills and better in the skatepark than my other boards. For most of my skating (San Fran streets mostly under 25mph) this board rocks, its really great for weaving thru the pedestrians.
