ok, the board is indeed 100% bamboo but the picture on the site is faulty. the Wheel wells are in the wrong place and suggest a horizontally laminated core. Since I now know this not to be the case, could you please clue me in to the construction of this board? thanks Sorry for the hating on S9 but the only reason I was hatin is cuz of the inaccurate pic on the site if you have any sort of affiliation with S9 you should tell them to fix their site (put real pics of the board on, maybe multiple angles and update it so that there's some more info about the new products so this kinda thing doesn't happen again)

So hold on a minute, Are the pictures on the website faulty or do they "carmelize" the inner parts of the bamboo to make it look like the core is normal maple laminates? In the pictures on the site you can clearly see the dark and light concentric circles where the wheel wells are. This would only happen with horizontal laminations. The only way I see this making sense is if the board is made of V-lam Bamboo veneers alternating between dark and light. Maybe its just some innovation I am unaware of but I to date I haven't yet seen the use of multiple Bamboo V-Lams in a board. The only board I have ever seen with multiple V-Lams is the Comet Speedboard but that uses a hickory-poplar core. I would love to see a real pic of S9s board but I won't beleive it until I see it. It's amazing how you think you can tell from a web site the materials that make up a board. Perhaps you do not know as much as you think you do. You see, there is a process whereby you can actually "Carmelize" bamboo by pressure dying the veneer. In the future maybe you should physically look at something before professing to know what it is made of. Not that I really care what you think I just hate it when people talk about things they know nothing about. I have actually purchased one of the Bamboo pintails and the board rides insane. It came assembled with Randall 180's, some bitchen 76 mm ghost colored nineball wheels that rival anything (Abec 11) I have ever ridden before and I have been riding for quite awhile. I suggest that next time you are at a shop take a look for yourself and you will see what I mean, it is quite obvious about the Bamboo construction. Out...........

A few days ago I stumbled on a drop deck and I'm trying to find it again. I hope this will ring a bell with someone else here... If I remmber right, it had some some aluminum bits, maybe an aluminum spine. It was a prototype, displayed in a forum post on the manfuacturer's web site. I posted a question about the dimensions and now I can't find the web site to see the response! Doh!
What's the company, where is the site? I should have bookmarked it, but didn't. Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm looking for a drop deck with a big rectangular standing area, not tapered or tear-dropped like most I've seen. 9.5" wide at least. So far the Rayne Demonseed is the only one I've seen. And maybe this mystery board that I can't find anymore. :-)

the paul price roadster is a deck made to the exact specs of a rider, who is looking for the utmost creativity and invention todays deck-construction offers. the board is a foam/glass/maple/carbon construction, which is lightweight, responsive and durable. raised nose section, concave where needed, bulges for the pump, kicktail as a gas-pedal. everything you ever dreamed of in one deck, made out of the best most expensive materials available. go to the races to see all the new stuff PAVEL pours out this year.

Wow a lot of name calling. My 2 cents. My favorite pool/park deck of all time was the Team 39". I'm a big fat guy and when they were 8 ply they lasted me a long time. I think I had three over the course of 3 years. I have an Ed E bankrider which is my one of my other favorite cruisers, I also have a 46" Classic carve that I cut Ed E, wheel wells into, ride it almost every morning down my hill and use it on banks. It has held up well. I also own 4 or 5 Fibreflexes, 4 Afroman decks, and others by Barfoot, Skip Engblom, and my own decks. I never could ride a sector because they were all made way too soft for grown men like me. Their construction wasn't bad for kids and really light weight adults, they just had them set up with lame wheels and lame pivot trucks. It's true I don't ride the Team 39's any longer because they are 7 ply now, which doesn't fit me, but I don't represent a big portion of the size and weight market, the 7 ply probably works a lot better for a much bigger share of the market. I replaced it with an Afroman Pool Hustler which is 8 ply and works great for me. It might not be the best bet for some little guy. Camber? who cares. Slalom boards need camber. Gravity makes excellent products, Breemo, BradE, Kevin are all great guys who are all great skaters. Breem and the Gravity guys are class acts and don't deserve disrespect. There is plenty of room for Sector and Gravity and it's nice that they offer differnt type of boards.

I checked the Sector 9 Website and the only board that appears to be 100% bamboo is the mini one (Bambino I think its called). You can tell from the pictures of the burst and the pintail boards that the core of the board is a horizontal laminate (probably maple) So S9 is making maple core boards with Bamboo V-lam skins and comet is making bamboo core boards with fiberglass and maple skins? Interesting. I think that overall though, I would prefer a V-lam core and like the give of fiberglass. I owned a Cosmic 1 as my first longboard and liked it a lot but far prefer my comet deck (even though it has no kicktail) I also support Comet over S9 cuz they are a local bay area company and are not as mainstream as Sector 9. my rant is done, respond as you will peace Julien

I don't usually chime in until the facts need to be clarified. Julien, who ever you are, make sure and check your facts before knocking someone elses product. The Sector 9 Bamboo boards are 100% Bamboo, if you look closely you will notice the construction with the bamboo being laid up vertically, resawed and laminated. I'm sure it was not an easy task so give credit where credit is due. As for Comet using bamboo in their construction also, good for them, they're not the first and sure not to be the last. I believe theirs is a sandwich construction using a little bamboo as core with maple and fiberglass. Big difference between that and a Board made from 100% Bamboo. At the end of the day we should all be glad that Sector 9 and Comet are making boards for us all to enjoy. OUT...........

Pretty damn cool if you ask me, P. You're right about that deck having lots of stuff you look for...and I REALLY dig the trapezoidal wheelwells for the multiple truck mountings. Actually, I really like most all of the stuff on their "Future" link.
I also agree with you about the kicktail on the 33". I'd really like to see your 30" model stretched out to 32" long, 9" wide at the front tapering to 7.5" by the forward rear truck holes (big rear foot). I like the concave, but my 195# would like just a wee bit more flex (med-stiff) and maybe just a hint of camber (1/2" total). Of course, with old-school 2.5" bolt patterns.
Hell...Scott, make me one of these! Call it the SINAZ or the AZSupraSM.
...then we'll have a part-time Class-C somtimes-racer with his own board!!!
I think that Subsonic could have an entire line dedicated to us fat, old, not-so-fast guys. Maybe an Eddy T.O. model? VERY Cool and anti-sheik. Pick someone from every geographic area...NW, AZ, SW, S, Midwest & East.
Laura, Race & I are planning on being in Hoodie on July 16 & 17. See everybody there!

hey Gavin, If you dig the Hellrider 2, wait'll you try out a Ditch B#tch!! DAve just got them in two days ago(?) so they're up for sale on the site. I've been riding a proto-type for the last 6 months or so, and I've been blown away by how good it is. AMAZINGLY light weight, no flex and a d-e-e-p concave. Although the width of the deck makes the concave feel not quite so "taco-shell" like as the Hellrider 1. Apparently, Dave also put some carbon-fibre in the Ditch B#tch as he did in the Sh#ttybuilt Pig for some added strength. I HIGHLY recommend the Ditch B#tch for a bowl/pool/vert/ pipe & ditch deck. It's a monster!! chris olden

Utilitarian Slalom Decks by Subsonic

Now I can toot my own horn. Scott Moore at www.subsonicskateboards.com is making a "Pauliwog" spelled "Polywog" signature model (am I the first amature B class slalom'er with such a thing?). Anyhow, I'm riding the one without the kicktail/fishtail(that's Scotts brainchild-though that might be a good T/S board for those Luca Giammarco style riders) in a wood core, wheel wells, concave, no camber, diagonal carbon stringers on the bottom with fibreglass top and bottom. It's fairly torsionally rigid, has a good rigid flex, not the lightest deck but not too heavy either, and wheel bases from 18" to 23" I think. If you want an affordable, very diverse wide spectrum use slalom deck this is will probably suit you QUITE well. After owning a wide array of different decks, the simplicity of this concept deck is really refreshing and functional. Will I give up my Roe's and PPS's finely crafted and custom dialed in for me? - NO, not anytime soon, they're pretty dang saaweeet! Does this board have features I want that they don't? - YES, ABSOLUTELY, it has it's own feel they don't and it feels REALLY good and smooth, especially in T/S, General Slalom(that silly "Hybrid" word), a good solid stable feel on G/S. I'm obviously not the fastest guy out there, but I like to ride boards that suite me and that I think will work to give me a fast time and do what I want, that said, I'm taking it to Windsor Colarado and Athens Georgia as part of my quiver and likely will be the board I use the most. If you're interested go to the "future" icon on the SubSonic site. Thanks Mucho to Scott Moore-Paul

hey goofyfoot...
there are several "flavas" out there you just need to check some stuff out!
google the following companies & shops and you will soon find a plethora of solutions to your soulriding needs!
companies ~ landyachtz / gravity / sector 9 / comet / arbour shops ~ solidskate / longskate / daddies
this is just a kick start for you ...there are tons of great rides to choose from so shop around find something you're stoked on!
as far as recommendations go... the type of deck is kind of a soul decision so i have pointed you in a general direction
trucks... randal 150's or 180's (probably 150's on a smaller deck) these trucks are "the standard" they make a really responsive carve when they ride and are never outclassed (check out seismics as well)
wheels... abec 11 they have tons of flavas for pretty much any type of desired ride ...the urethane is fast & grips like mad ~ the best!!
i'm also 40 and love longboarding for many of the same reasons most everyone else does ... it's the soulride on asphalt getting in flow with gravity and having a connection with the past in the present!
keep the vibe alive ...monson

Hi! I am an old skateboarder from the 70s, with desire to skate again! I am looking for a pintail with kicktail, around 40" (to match my years ;) I weight around 130 lbs. Does anybody know of such a thing (pintail, concave, kicktail). I have seen the Original Skateboards Torpedo 40", but it is so new I have not found any reviews or comments. Does anyone knows it or a similar one?

Hey man, it probably won't break on you; but it won't be as responsive as something tailored for your size, either... check out www.insectskateboards.com .. their 40" Pin or 44" Big Bug will fit the bill and Steve Hopper is great to work with ... let him know what you weigh and how you want it to flex and he will hook you up!! Craftsmanship and materials are second to none and the decks cost about the same or a little more than a Fibreflex... I had a FF 43" Funshape that was just waaaay too flexy -- got a Big Bug and it's perfect similar shape etc .. but so snappy and responsive...

I just got a 44" G2 Classic Pintail and I have never ridden before. I took to it so quickly. The problem I see happening is the board snapping. I am 6'2 about 235 lbs. My board does a slight creak when it flexs down, is it going to snap?
