Deck Review
Wide tail
On 9/27/2005 SamG wrote in from United Kingdom  (193.203.nnn.nnn)

Julien, In order to avoid oversteer on a slalom board you can reduce turning leverage by designing in a narrower tail. If you have a wide tail deck then you can stiffen up the back to avoid oversteer by putting in harder bushings on your back truck. This will also have the result of making the board easier to pump at a higher speed, where softer bushings will make the board easier to accelerate at lower speeds, but more prone to oversteer and limited top speed.

Practice and training with a single setup will usually show these basic rules to be exactly what they are; basic. A skilled rider, accustomed to what might appear a peculiar setup, can make it work because he/she will have developed around the flaws.

The concave and kicktail of the Pavel Roadster help to lock the rear foot in above the back truck in a similar position to a narrower deck, but allow for greater control of the mechanical advantage because pressure can be applied in more than one direction.

Please take the above with a pinch of unscientific salt.

billbee's gas pedal
On 9/26/2005 Julien wrote in from United States  (68.85.nnn.nnn)

I was recently thinking about something along those lines to compensate for the narrow tail on my Comet Street Slalom. I was thinking that a slightly concaved piece of aluminum mounted onto a softish riser would do the tricks. Seems to basically be what you have found with that snowboard thingie. I'm glad the idea was sucessful.
I wonder why so many slalom boards lack a wide tail. Seems like for the sake of turning it would be better to have the flex in the front of the board rather than the tail for the sake of consistent traction in the rear. The pavel roadster seems to be one of the only boards that intergrates this.

Landyachtz drop through
On 9/24/2005 Chris wrote in from United States  (158.48.nnn.nnn)

Does anyone have anything to say about the landyachtz drop speed deck. It looks like it would be awesome. I wanted to know how well it carves as well as stability at high speed. Is the drop through race deck better? Any help is appreciative.

Billbees Folly

Dear Billbee,

Get a job and maybe some level headed friends who can talk you down when you need it.

I recommend trying this: Scroll down to the picture you just posted. Close your eyes, relax, and think about nothing for about 15 seconds. This should be a sort of "re-boot".

Slowly open your eyes.

Look at the picture again.

It's ok, I once thought it was a good idea to mount a motorcyle motor to a LazyBoy recliner. It worked great until my ass caught fire and I ended up in a ditch.

Billy,
The next thing you know you'll be suggesting we use Mtn. Biking cleats or step-in bindings for Slalom. You freak! Don't you know the world is FLAT! This is pure heresy.

Speed, Subsonic, etc
On 9/21/2005 Mile High Mark wrote in from United States  (206.124.nnn.nnn)

I'm not the fastest guy around, but I know many folks who regularly hit very high speeds on their Subs.

As was posted previously, if you're able to go 40, the boards will, too.

I only have size 11 shoes, but the concaves and widths work really well for me.

Subsonics
On 9/21/2005 customer service wrote in from United States  (67.170.nnn.nnn)

Yeah, if you can handle 40mph, the board can for sure.

This would be my number 1 downhill purchase for sure, it pushses great as well, dropped platform, just fits me like a glove and I'm 250, my buddy weighs around 200 and he likes this deck as much as me.

The deck he has is a 40 with the stiff flex, mmmm, good and I would love to trade my next to new Bozi MB 2 with the bad boy graphics for a subsonic, don't think its happening though, people get attached to these decks quick.

I get no flow from subsonic, Mile High or anyone else, just an educated opinion.

Peace

I'm about 250 lbs. and have big feet so I thought the MB 2 would be a good match for me. Are the subsonics stable at speeds around 40 mph?

Subsonics
On 9/21/2005 Mile High Mark wrote in from United States  (69.15.nnn.nnn)

The Swift 38's that we stock have some semi-custom features like multiple truck mounting positions, wheel wells, green stain, etc. Amazingly fun and versatile boards. We have more drops on the way, too.

I had a Bozi MB-II, and I just couldn't get into it. Tried a ton of setups, but none of it really did it for me. Amazing construction, but it simply wasn't the board for me.

Or get a subsonic, these decks rock, my buddy has a 40 and everyone who rides it, wants it, me included, beautiful dark brown stain on this as well, looks as nice as it rides.

Mile High has some 38''s subsonics in stock I think as well. No waiting on construction but you don't get to customize

jeff@bozi started flaking out hard last year due to personal problems, last I heard he was making or had made good on all of that(after some people started getting refunds from their credit card companies because Jeff would not respond to anyone's emails or phone calls for months)including some stuff he owed me for 6 months.

Sucks pretty bad that he has product to flow to races but cannot take care of the people who actually buy his product.

If you are getting no response from him to emails and phone calls, I would get a refund from your credit card co and buy the deck here:
http://www.solidskate.com/deck/decks18.shtml

No run around there at all.

How hard is it to respond to a freakin email when you are selling stuff and your customers want to know where their product is or why its taking so long to arrive or build? Not too hard

BASIC customer service

TD1 crossover
On 9/21/2005 billbee wrote in from United States  (66.214.nnn.nnn)

Set the hook... of course one would apply a traction product to the aluminum plate. In this case I am trying to describe the setup clearly. Who knows perhaps a run with hardboots! As for foot placement it is pretty easy to tell on or off. It feels real comfy on. Adjust ability is the key factor, IMHO.

Wouldn't your rear foot slip off the TD1 plate? (Though I guess you could put grip tape on it.)

And wouldn't it be very unforgiving of rear foot placement mistakes?

TD1 Gas Pedal for PSR
On 9/20/2005 billbee wrote in from United States  (66.214.nnn.nnn)

I saw many setups this past week at the "Worlds", notably various cant/wedge configurations made of wood or foam. Many serious snowboarders spend much time with canting both front and rear feet. It occurred to me that my Bomber TD1 plate binding might be just the ticket. Low and behold, the cant plates mounts up with no modification offering fore and aft adjustment.I am using the 6 degree cant plate. The plate can rotate through a range of angles. It feels wonderful under foot and makes double pumping a breeze. The best thing is that this can be put together inexpensively as spare parts from Bomberonline.com . It's simply amazing, it really really works !!!!

TD1 madness
On 9/20/2005 lonerider wrote in from United States  (65.249.nnn.nnn)

That is a *sweet* setup, I really like the foam wedge job in front. The TD1 setup is awesome - but I'd hardly call $50 worth of spare parts *cheap* unless you are some type of gear-freak with no sense of proper finanicial managmenet multiple snowboards, bindings, skateboards, trucks, wheels... oh wait.. that's me :)

I think I'll just go with the wedged foam block first... although I can already get a double pump in... maybe with my TD2s I have get a TRIPLE PUMP into my turns...

Longboard Larry seems to offer the perfect solution with his custom service.

Another alternative from the skate/ surf culture might be to contact Skip Engblom at Santa Monica Airlines Click here for link who produces not only the regula SMA range, but also super luxury exotic longboards.

Just set up my Conekillers. They are SWEEET! I'd recommend any ConeKiller for anyone looking for a new setup. The concave is perfect. Built in gas pedals.

What I want to know is: why does everybody put so much emphasis on flex, when the conekillers, perfectly stiff decks, are winning races? The Sk8Kings Axe is also a stiff deck, and it was on two podiums at the Nationals. Seems to me that less reaction time would mean a faster skateboard.
