Tipping
On 3/14/2006 Eddy Texas Outlaws wrote in from United States  (24.175.nnn.nnn)

I have several slalom boards, OK that is an understatement. Some of them tip when I turn, and by this I mean they. The front wheel lifts up. Yet my other boards are pretty stable. I use Radikal trucks. I have tried using flat risers, 2 wedges on the front and the board still tips. Do I need to wedge higher. Eddy Texas Outlaws

Evo Setup
On 3/11/2006 jaWes wrote in from Sweden  (217.211.nnn.nnn)

I have my foam/carbon evo set up with JimZ speedhangers/baseplates (which seems to be made for the evo), the axles are 200/10mm så no worries about bending axles. Sinsystem ceramic nineball bearings + 90mm flywheels 78a back and 81a front..This setup really is the s#@!!!

Duane Peters PPS Foam Core
On 3/5/2006 Eddy Texas Outlaws wrote in from United States  (24.175.nnn.nnn)

Finally got out to our favorite hill yesterday. Spent 4 hours in the Texas sun running my new board, who is my best amigo now. Here it is, Trucks- Radikals, wheels-70MM ZIG ZAGS 86-83 duro. 90 cones, Hybrid top of the hill, then a huge Hollien curve into the middle of the course followed 6ft straights. Speed 25mph. The board reacts quickly, has a wide tail, I added a kicktail to it. The board is very stable at speed and can cut through some tight cones as well. Super light. What can I say you can take my Pistol from me when you pry it from my cold dead fingers. Eddy TEXAS OUTLAWS

SUBSONICSKATEBOARDS.COM
On 3/4/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Subsonic "SCOUT" slalom deck: As if my sponsor does'nt have enough orders to fill already, I have to put a plug in for this one. It's a 9" wide slalom deck with wheel bases 19" to 22"(?) drilled similarly to the "Pauliwog" model on the www.subsonicskateboards.com website only it's one notch bigger all around in wheel bases. The shape is a rounded coffin with a big front foot area, it was designed to be stiffer for longer wheelbases for big hybrid and G/S. It's got concave, a very short and slight kick for the rear foot(you can either get none or probably more if you want, just tell Scott what you want), non cambered. Mine has wheel wells which I HIGHLY recommend. It's not on the website yet. Think of a big Simon levine Coughin Cut from PPS but with a bigger wider nose and wider all the way around.

I took it to the DHB Dixie Cup and it was Perfect on the G/S, I recently changed trucks, wheel base and wheels and used it on a tigher hybrid course for a few hours and liked it a LOT. I've got a purple all wood version and an unstained version with fiberglass and diagonal carbon stringers(just like the "Pauliwog" built the same way that is on the website) which I still need to test more, It's good but a tank. The all wood version is stiff enough without the extra weight of the fiberglass, I think I went overboard having one built that way. If you want a good all-around-multiple-wheelbase slalom deck and like the stiff noncambered but concave variety of slalom decks, this might be for you. Thanks again to Scott Moore for making me some GREAT decks. -Pauliwog

...OH dude you had me confused
On 3/3/2006 dan@csu wrote in from United States  (129.82.nnn.nnn)

ha ok. randal makes 3 fixed axel trucks. the r2 150 which is turny and not very stable at speed. the r2 180 which is kinda the standard and strikes a nice balance between manuverability and stability. the dh which is a straight up downhill truck and is very stable. you had me confused because the dh is a 160mm truck not a 150mm. if you have the 150's then yes the 180's will be better for a hill. but if you actually have the dh's then those are exactly what you want for downhill!

cool. thanks. the 150s are randall dh trucks. the angle is set up different that my 180's. is that what you mean by down hill trucks, or are you talking about a different brand?

definetly put the 180's on and crank them down tight if you're hitting a hill. they'll be fine until you can buy some downhill trucks/baseplates. have fun!

im not really worried about how well it turns or carves. im just looking for a more stable ride at high speeds. for some reason i thought the 150 rII's would work better. i put some 83mm flywheels on them. i have some 180's, i just havnt had time to switch them out because they are on my commuter board.

On 3/1/2006 dan@csu wrote in from United States  (216.17.nnn.nnn)

my 1st board was a sector- i took a jigsaw to it and made a drop through speedboard. then i took the jigsaw to it again and made it perfectly rectangle so my friend could use it to stretch his canvas over (he's a painter). sectors are the huffys of longboarding. (start the rebuttles in 3,2,1...)

evo responce
On 2/28/2006 Bennett Casey wrote in from United States  (66.57.nnn.nnn)

hey i actually made a board just like the evo from the plans on chris chaput's website. i run randal R2 150mm's because they are a little bit more responsive but i deff. agree with you about how it handles. i also put the kryptonics kryp grip slalom wheels on it and LOVE THEM they are a great all around wheel.

more posts about the evo
On 2/28/2006 Slidey Mc.Slide wrote in from United States  (24.53.nnn.nnn)

Its seems like the evo has been the best board made EVER, if youre using it for serious purposes like really fast sliding or bombing hills.
i wouldnt recomend it for cruising because the board its too good for that
any way...what trucks dou you people think are the best for the evo? and how tight? my preference: randalls II 180mm with its original yellow busshings are the best you can get!!

evo
On 2/26/2006 dan@csu wrote in from United States  (216.17.nnn.nnn)

the evo is best used as it was intended to be used- as a downhill board with either randal 180's for speeds up to 35mph or with various dh trucks for faster stuff. if you're going to use it for some cruising as well like i do, 180's are plenty turny. if you HAVE to use 150's, well that sucks but use whatever wedges you like and MAKE SURE to get harder bushings. though it was designed around randals thats not to say other setups won't work really well, but i say why waste the money if we already know what works. if it's good enough for the landy riders it's good enough for us!

Difficult to set up Evo
On 2/25/2006 Eric T wrote in from United States  (198.102.nnn.nnn)

This may sound crazy to some but think about it. I would recommend Joe to swap his Siesmic front to rear and give it a try. His set up with 45deg mounted to the 15deg kick of the deck equals a 60deg truck! With the 30deg mounted to -15deg rear kick this equals a 15deg truck! I love my boards to turn quicker in the front than the rear but I found that the Evo with 180 R-II at both ends was too much bias to the front (that set up equals 65deg fr and 35deg rear). If Joe swap his trucks his effective geometry would be 45deg front and 30deg out back and the board would turn like a flat deck with those angle Siesmics mounted which is exactly the way most people like to run their Siesmics.
