big bug also
On 5/9/2006 toddc wrote in from United States  (68.124.nnn.nnn)

I was not putting it down for not being light. The materials are what the materials are - and that's what makes it responsive and a killer pumping machine (a la 10 ft. cones) as well and long enough to handle speed with a lot of comfort and confidence. Mine is a modified deck shape, RII 150s, Stims, Pink Gumballs, decent bearings. It's a high traction, super pumping, beautifully made deck. Did i mention it was sort of heavy? Are you riding it or carrying it? When it's on the pavement, it moves.

re: bug ad
On 5/8/2006 fitz wrote in from Australia  (203.221.nnn.nnn)

at cones set 10ft apart, i can get a 40" dropthru downhill board runnin 180 hangers through that!
its really how you dial in your bushes to kingpin. Looooooose....
I had a go of a friends bigbug and it didn't have the sorta flex I was expecting. It was cambered right up but didn't flex down into a comfortable height. At 80kg I'm no light weight either.
Nicely crafted board though. Just not for me.
But hey thats just my opinion right?

Big Bug
On 5/7/2006 Michael wrote in from United Kingdom  (87.114.nnn.nnn)

The Big bug is an extraordinary deck, preety long, but can 'haul ass'. Recently I set up two of them with Randal 150s and Soft Gumballs for a TV shoot on a skidpan. The TV company wanted the presenter to do slalom through Road Cones spaced 10ft apart..they used a slalom board for his double...then they need me to bomb through the cones. I chose the Big Bug as the cones were so far spaced. I cramked it up to full pelt and was even double pumping the thing. The boards were a great hit with the production crew, who felt comfortable using it for skooting about the set.

I always knew the Big Bug made an excellent cruiser, but whilst its not an slalom board it really responded like a bigger version. The flex pattern meant a pump was easy to maintain without being soggy, which on such a big wheelbase is a great acheievement. I was axcellerating through the cones big time, behind a Quad with a steady cam. The pics were fed back to a TV truck and the guys came up to me afterwards saying that the shots were excellent, the speed was astounding. I felt totally comfortable using the board in what could have been a dicey situaton, rough road surface, big cones with bases and the need to miss crew. The Bug rewarded effort and gave back pump, speed and accuracy.

Im going to add that I do import the Insects to the UK, so you may say Im biased. Fact is in a situation like we were filming last week I chose the best board I could, and whilst I usually would use a 36" sllaom deck on this day the Insect was the best deck for the job.

re:bigbug=not light
On 5/5/2006 JC wrote in from United States  (72.4.nnn.nnn)

Thanks toddc. I actually saw a few posts that sorta confirmed they weren't as light as one might expect but nothing from anyone that actually had one. More "I heard they aren't as light as you'd think" type deals.

Well I got one coming. Can't wait. Haven't really heard anything but positives about them so it's not really an issue but more of me just wondering about them.

Thanks for the info.

Roe 2006 lineup
On 5/5/2006 sc wrote in from United States  (65.91.nnn.nnn)

What happened to the Roe lineup? Why did it get pared back to two boards, one wood (OK, available in different lengths) and one foam? Just wondering ...

bigbug=not light
On 5/3/2006 toddc wrote in from United States  (68.121.nnn.nnn)

I have a custom shape Bigbug plus black carbon weave. I think it is 9 plies..long, wide.. plus glass and carbon. Probably weighs double (at least) of my foam core 42" Pistol. They are both great rides. Do not expect something light. More of a standard weight or heavier if you ask me - but it's agood board!

Insect Big Bug Weight?
On 5/2/2006 JC wrote in from United States  (72.4.nnn.nnn)

Out of curiosity can anyone shed some light on the weight of a Insect Big Bug? They look like they'd be relatively light for the size but I'm not sure.

I want one with a Texalium belly (if that makes any difference).

I guess I just want to know if it's as light or lighter than a "normal" wood ply.

Thanks.

ORIGINAL "Rockit" deck from 1977
On 4/29/2006 S.W. wrote in from United States  (69.233.nnn.nnn)

Folks, I found my skateboard from Jr. High. It is an ORIGINAL "Rockit" skateboard from 1977. I found a site online that showed an ad from 1976. Same board. This deck is 30" long. It is in great condition. No major scrapes or scuffs. If there is a market for this, aside from Ebay, where would I go to sell it? Thanks for your help.

first deck purchase
On 4/29/2006 jarrod wrote in from United States  (68.6.nnn.nnn)

i'm looking to buy my first deck. i've been directed to several manufacturers and was hoping to get some feedback and experience from anybody.
what i really want to do with it is just cruise and carve. i'm not into racing but do like cruising hills. some decks i've been directed to are landyachtz, greenbrews and comets.
does anyone have a greenbrew? i'm looking at the kicker and creedler for length and want to know flexy are they? does more flex mean better carving?
how about comets? what's the difference between their proflex series and classic/speed series and which would be better for carving?
and then the landyachtz... anybody have a wedge flex? any recommendations for boards from them?
and lastly what are the pros/cons of concave vs. convex decks?

any info on any questions would be appreciated. cheers, jarrod

Banana Boards
On 4/23/2006 Pablo el Diablos wrote in from United States  (64.24.nnn.nnn)

Nice to see this site! I started skateboarding as a youth in the mid-1980s, so I don't know much about these boards. Still, my older sister had this "Nash-equivalent" banana board. That was one piece-of-crap and it knocked the wind out of me on several occasions (always managing to prove its name true on the most auspicious of occasions). Anyway, I'm glad to see that the 1970s boards weren't all pieces of crap. Keep skatin!

Carbon Fiber Board
On 4/22/2006 jawes wrote in from Sweden  (217.211.nnn.nnn)

I have a Landyachtz Evo..a really light board with a foam core, wrapped in layers of carbon..

It´s light, superstiff, has great built in concave and really has everything I could wish for in a speedboard. It sets up beautiful with JimZ trucks, 200/10mm axles green stims allaround, SinSystem ceramic 9ball bearings, spacers, and 83mm flywheels 78a/81a. I have tailguards from Hawaiisurfco on the nose and tail, and I promise you, my 11ply wooden evo would break before my carbon evo would.
Why should the Roe be any weaker?
I don´t think so..

carbon fiber boards
On 4/20/2006 Tai wrote in from United States  (64.142.nnn.nnn)

How much are these carbon fiber boards going to cost? This is a slick idea. However, my previous experience with carbon fiber stuff for bikes, I'm a bit weary. One crash, one slam into anything and this board's toast.

both the evo and dh race are great downhill boards, though last i knew landy was out of dh races... anyway i prefer the evo because it's concave and shape really locks you in and feels safe. also reconsider the seismics- randal dh's are ridden by top speedboarders and will be cheaper and easier to maintain than seismics. evo + randal dh's = no excuses speed!

Landy drop board question
On 4/18/2006 Allen Taylor wrote in from United States  (132.198.nnn.nnn)

I already have a loaded vanguard 42" with randal r-II trucks and gumballs. I am looking to buy a second board and i've narrowed it down to two. I am having trouble choosing between the landyachtz evo and DH race. Since i already have the vanguard as a good all around board i am looking for something that will bomb hills pretty hard. Is the EVO more geared twards all around riding or is it a good dh board too? Since i have the vanguard should i get the DH race? I was thinking i would put sisemic 180mm 45 degree trucks on the front and 30 degree trucks on the back with gumballs, anyone have any sugguestions to this?
Thanks guys
Allen
