Any tips on how to get all the way around for a 360 coleman? I figure you gotta just push it all the way but Im having a bit of trouble with that. Think I just gotta go faster?

I don't know if this is old, but another, yet not as impressive, move for getting off your board is by taking your back foot off and sliding your front to the tailand popping it up so you can catch the front truck.

Coleman Slide? I was watching ESPn2 the other day and they showed some clips from the original Bones Brigade video - showed some guy (peralta?) doing about 35-40 down a hil and ripping 50 foot slides, continuing at speed, ripping another long slide, continuing again...wow. It was way cool and mind blowing. And, he was doing on a 30" board with 90 duro wheels. Kind of made me think twice about the need for length. I prefer longboards for their cruising and bombing abilities..but this was far out. Check it out.

That is a sick move. I am tired of jumping off my board and then trying to chase it. This is easy and looks cool. It is hard with my big heavy cruiser but with my carver its smooth. Thanx

Hey tl I just tried out your step off technique. I’ll have to practice it a little before I can pull it of every time but all I can say is that it rocks. It is by far the slickest way I have ever stepped of a board at low speed. I recommend it to anyone out there !!! Another slick trick you need to master in the endless quest of becoming the perfect asphaltman..... how poetic eh :-) CU on the road Kili

Slick way to get off your board at pre-slide speeds. First you need a board with a bit of nose. Second place one foot at the very front of the board then step off with the other foot. Angle your nose foot and push down to lift the tail. The nose will hit the road and pop up like an ollie. Snatch board from the air with other hand and presto - instant pedestrian. Impresses the ladies , especialy when you don't look back. Skating in the city, I have to do this manuever at least ten times a day. Remember, the fast you go, the harder you have to push down the nose or you'll find yourself reaching back and grabbing nothing but air. It's by far the fastest and smoothest transition to walking mode I know of.

I figured out how to 50/50 grind my S9, and it kicks ass. I've been riding at a skatepark in chadam, ma. and am having fun.Grinding is much faster than a shortie board. I wish i could figure out how to ollie it though, because with all the bounce that board has i'm sure I could have a lotta fun. If any of you guys know how to drop into a pipe on a longboard(bombdrop?)or ollie an S9 gimmie an e-mail. thanx, Longboarder with few hills

I just got into the longboarding thing three weeks ago. I'm stuck way inland and can't surf, so i'm trying to keep my life balanced. I got a gravity hyper carve and i love it. super fast. i don't quite have the whole slide thing down yet, but i'm trying. the question is how do you keep from sliding out when you when you don't want to? at speed several times i'm carving a big turn and i feel my back wheels go. i don't really thing i'm laying it over that hard. any tricks to carve hard and not loose traction. stay low? weight on front foot? let me know. I'm in davidson, north carolina so happy boarding to all teh west coasters out there. happy baording, stowe

I just saw the old 80's classic "Gleaming the Cube." It had some great examples of coleman slides. Check it out.

Tyler...nothing wrong with asking questions. It's a common one, you're not the first.
Maybe it's time for a FAQ on NCDSA? Anyone?

Tyler,
There's a good description of the Colman slide on the Sidewalk Surfer's home page at:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Field/2020/ride5.htm
Also if you get a chance to see either of the first two Bones Brigade videos they have some good Colman sliding stuff.

I made a homemade brake for my 48" longboard with a trigger handgrip. When I went tooo fast I pulled the brake on and it rubbed my back wheels. My board stopped and I fell off. My nose got broke and it has a big giant chunk out of it. I gess I messed up. I'm not going to use my brakes any more. You don't need brakes. Just jump off and try to run. I did that and I fell again. I'm going to ride in my garage instead.

I have a question about an injury I keep getting evertime I dfrag my foot or run with one foot to slow down,, Yesterday I was bombing a hill, half way down after about the sixth turn I realized that at the bottom was an intersection and I could see some cars coming, so I thought that I should either bail before I get there or try and make it past the intersection before they got there,, well what happened was when I got to the bottom thewre was already a steady flow of cars coming out of the other street so I had no option but to bail or to stomp my foot to slow down saving the board from certain destruction. Anyways when I started to stompo my right foot onb the ground to slow downI felt this sharp pain uin my back,, I had to stomp pretty hard because I was going to fast,, the first stomp almost threw me of the board,, anyways I managed to get through it but am left with this pain on the right side of my lower back,, how do I prevent this from happening again I hate this back pain and I hate cars....anyone know a good safe way to slow down, in an emergenccy without bailing your board, or howabout just agood way to slow down on a hill...thanks remember old school baby, old school...

try putting really small wheels on the back and larger wheels on the front this makes you keep up speed and make tight carves and turns
try expermenting with differnt sizes and types of wheels

Hey. I got a problem. I've been longboarding for a couple months now but I live in Indiana so there aren't very many longboarders around. Can anyone tell me how to through some slides or anything? Longboarding rules..... I just need to learn some of the basics and it's hard to teach myself when I have to guess how to do things. Please help. Email me at hiltyj@bethel-in.edu

Tyler,
Don't hold the rail. The reason you're going in circles is that when you're in position to hold the rail, too much of your weight is directly over the wheels which gives them too much grip, hence no slide. In the Coleman slide, you transfer your center of gravity well off the board, towards the uphill direction. Imagine sitting on a low bench that is parallel to your board, but a foot or two further up the hill than where your deck is. If your ass is sitting on that bench, and your uphill hand (left if regular, right if goofy) is planted on the street, your center of gravity (CG) will be sufficiently off the wheels to let them break loose with ease. Once you're doing that, the correct position for your other arm is extended over your head which lets you control your CG and prevent over-sliding into a full-180. Check the Pics section for people in this position.

I read the post on Coleman sliding, and i promptly whipped up a sliding glove, but unfortunatly I still cant do one. I think I'm trying to pull it off the wrong way. Just to clarify things what is a "Frontside drop knee g turn"? If some one could please answer this question I would be very happy. thanx.
