ANGELS / CROSS OVERS
Borrowed from longboard surfing. You'll need a highish, mellow and long bank or snake run for this one. With a partner right behind you carve up the bank thus slowing slightly, your mate will go past you, as soon as they are they carve up and you carve down and keep on repeating till you run out of bank !!!
Timing is the only real thing here. We do them on a long , banked cornered BMX track which is like a snake run. Another thing that is way harder to do than it looks if you want to keep it going.

Today I adjusted my style and I think it might help some people new to longboarding. I dont like to straight line big hills but ill carve any hill you put in front of me. Anyways Ive never been able to get my toeside carves as hard as my heelside ones so I always do a quick hard heelside turn and then a long drawn out toe side turn. Today though I discovered if you take you crouch really low grab your heeledge and take your back foot and pivot it almost parrelell with the board without moving the ball of your foot so your foot is almost straight and is on the toeside edge of your board. You can carve your toeside edge alot harder, your chin should be almost resting on your front knee. From here you can easily move into a dropknee heelside carve or slide. One last thing wear gloves when you try this!! My first turn with this style I ended up falling forward off my board because I wasnt expecting the board to turn as quick as it did. Later

eggman,
Doggies pulling you around on a wheeled device actually has a name-carting. My female rott also digs dragging humans on skateboards for miles on end. Ruins her day, being a "working dog",if she misses out on her chore. Ruins mine if I don't get my free ride (top speed 15-18mph). Knows her left turn from her right and speed up and slow down. Get a proper harness so you don't strangle the pooch.

Hey,
I can't bust out a Coleman slide. Whenever I try all I do is turn 90 degrees and eat crap. I eat it hard to because I get going prety fast. I ride with Krypto's. I am going to use my bones bombers. But the only way i can slide is to grab my front rail and pull out my back end. Please help me. Cliff if your out there E-mail me so you can show my friends and I how to slide sometime.

So, I figure it's about time that I learned to "pump" my G&S fiberflex board. I've tried many times, but I don't really get it. Can somebody help me get started?

Cheers

I ride a cosmic rider usually but recently purchased an olle old school deck. Its about 47+ in. Just wondering what sort of tricks other than noseriding can be done on it. Also, is it capable of hill runs? Thing weights a ton. Happy skating!

It's all about flex guys. Flex = better slides, and a smoother ride.

TOM> IT SOUNDS LIKE WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO PULL IS 5-0, A TERM USED BY SHORTBOARDERS.THIS USUALLY WORKS FOR ME ON SHORTBOARDS, WHEN YOU'RE SATISFIED WITH THE LENGTH OF YOUR GRIND, GIVE THE BOARD A LITTLE POP AS IF YOU WERE DOING A SLIGHT OLLIE.WHILE DOING THIS GIVE A SLIGHT TURN AWAY FROM THE CURB.BE SURE YOU ARENT LEANING TOO FAR BACK SO THAT YOUR BOARD DOESNT SLIP FROM UNDER YOU. GOOD LUCK AND HIT THEM HILLS.

I'm trying to do a rear truck only curb grind.
I've been trying to learn how to do this for a couple of
days now but I can't seem to get the back truck off of the
curb when I want to finish the grind. Any advice?
Thanks

I think more needs to be said about "pooch power". We got a harness for the pooch and he pulls whoever around the block. You should see him go crazy when you grab the leash and board. Then he runs super-fast around the block...Three times! It is an awsome way to feel like you are bombing a hill, when there are no hills to be found. You can practice your high speed carves and such. Talk about a fun time! Who else does this? You should start, cuz it is da bomb. Ok,
Later late.

There's this slide that I do,that resembles a powerslide is funner than a powerslide but I've been doing it before I even knew what a powerslide was. It's a backside 180 turn but in the first 90 degrees the board is on 2 wheels and in the last 90 degrees it's sliding on no wheels, just the rail of the board, and then just pop up and ride away at the end. the only problem is that my right butt cheek(ride goofy) drags on the ground in points of time(making dirty and holy) and you have to grip the rail as hard as you can because it will spit across the other end of the road hard and fast if you don't.I suggest you all try, Does anyone know what it's called?

Simple question: is there any actual *point* to doing drop-knee turns? (other than Style, that is..) I've been trying to figure them out, and I don't know if I've really got it. What is the hallmark of a good DKT?
ciao

Eggman,

Once you get the 360, try a move developed by a guy named Zane Covington. It is called the "Flim Flam". First you do a 360 in one direction and if you have enough speed, after completing the first one you then do one in the other direction. Two 360s in on e slide, each one going different ways. Wheels about 95 durometer make this possible where softer wheels might not.

Cliff Coleman, skating since 1961.

DREW. DREW! DREW?

This is the freakiest thing. My name's really Drew too and I've been trying to figure out 360 slides for months. And I've gave up on fakie (switchstance) sliding like a month and a half ago. THAT'S CRAZY!! Well anyway, I've been thinking about 360 slides and figure you have to do it vertical. You can't grab your board and lean. Once you go 180degrees your weight is leaning the opposite way you wanna slide. Think about it. If you lean to the right and then turn around and continue to lean to the right you're really leaning the opposite direction!! So I've been thinking It's gotta be done all with one momentem filled snap. If you've ever tried riding different width trucks you know you get some crazy snap if you have wider trucks in the back than in the front. So what I'm thinking is if you set up your truck wide in the back, narrow in the front and jimmie up some harder wheels in the back, It might be possible. I've seen wheels that are hard on the outside but soft on the middle so it absorbs impact and rides smoother than standard hard wheels. I think they're called "darkstar" or somthing. Well that's my suggestion. I hope it works. If you ever figure out that 360 or you find my idea works before I do, email me.

Must learn to fall..... very very important... Once you learn to fall (more or less learning to roll and not slide on your belly , hands and knees, etc) you will feel much safer.. I've seen guys go so fast and then jump off their board and try to run. This can work too but you end up feeling like a nerd. (and it hurts your feet!) I ride in Hawaii where the hills are varied from long and mellow to steep and gnarly!!! There are very smooth roads and very very rough roads. I also like it when my friend Mark pulls me on my Honda moped around town. In Hawaii its so nice to be outside and to sk8 hills with your friend pulling you around when you get to the bottom is unreal!!!He's stoked on it too!!!!
I've hit 30-35mph that I know of, one time I swore I was going to die... I don't know how fast I was going that time but I was scared, holding on and maintaing with everything I had.. Speed wobbles are something you learn to overcome cuz at high speeds even sticking your arm out and giving the shaka to friends messes with aerodynamics!!! Its a combination of looseness and tightness that lets you hit mach 9 and not have your board freak out beneath your feet. One more tip- I like to drop my backfoot and slide it on the ground, kind of grind it down, to slow me down. Once you learn this you can control your speed by braking and releasing however you please. It can be sketchy going fast but its possible...its great when you want to just slow down a little bit or stop at a red light at the bottom of a run. But it will wear your shoes down fast!! Irie!!

I live in South Dakota. Many hills good for riding are in
country. Somtimes guys in big trucks come by and want to start
fights because they don't like what I'm doing. They say
that it's queer. Then they want to fight me. When this happens
my riding technique goes like this: Slide 90 degrees to a quick
stop then quickly pick up skateboard, run into field and hide
among cows.

Drew. On a hill, with some speed. No hands, or rail grasbbing. You need a good board too. Try going from fronside to backside.....then slowly try to make it all one motion. Takes some practice. Good luck

It's a lot harder to slide with Exkates at the start but when you get used to it you can still do it. Just you don't have to slide as much when you can carve so hard
