so you can tell us what we have to do w/ our longboards and all and you won't even leave your name? anyway, some of us live where there are sidewalks, holes in the streets and such where it is catamount to be able to either ollie/crack ollie obstacles so as to not crash.
i don't see why we can't have a tricks page on this site, but i guess whatever webmaster says goes.

I fell in love with skateboarding 23 years ago, mainly because i could try everything, without having someone making some rule, or judging me. We should let other, younger skateboarders make their experiences, not tell them what to do, even if we're jealous that they can ollie and we can't.

Why do you guys wanna learn how to ollie on a longboard?? A longboard is made for cruising, bombing hills and carving,, not for doing those new-school tricks! Are you guys gonna ruin this sport by doing those flippety-flap-jump-around tricks,, so go to hell!

Technique, the name of the page leaves it pretty open for you to discuss any style of riding you like and if people want to respond/answer any questions you post it's all good, now ,about those varial frontside 540's ,how do I get them to alley op far enough to clear the diving board in my backyard pool?

RE: hey Steve- You sound like a pimp. Ive been grabbin both shoulders n goin at it for years, but I still haven't mastered the art of being able to just grab whichever girl is available and get to it. They usually make me be their boyfriend first. Ne tips on skippin that part??
What I do is I have them tow me until they realize I'm there, and then they slap me silly. I get big handprints on my face for days. steve

is there something wrong with doing tricks on longboards? i mean you can only carve and do slides for so long before it gets a bit tired (i live in nyc, the hills are avenues full of cars, if i lived where there were more hills, i might have a different opinion). so after i hit the few hills around my house, i'll go down to where the regular skaters are. i've learned frontside/backside slides, ollies and shuv-its so far but would like somewhere where we could discuss doing tricks on longboards. i recently saw a picture of some kid in thrasher pulling off a blunt in a bowl (no dude, not that kinda blunt) and was totally shocked that it's even possible.
it saddens me that while all of you on this site are all happy about longboarding getting popular and more accepted, you don't want it to have anything to do w/ the sport ("shortboarding" as you all refer to it as) a good part of us came from.
ok, i'm done.

Why no "tricks" page? As one contributor rightly noted, the Riding Techniques forum name was carefully thought out to both encompass a wide variety of moves, and also to promote more soulful, carving, surfing, sliding, and other uniquely longboard types of maneuvers. We would prefer that all that toe-flipping, ollieing, grinding stuff stay relagated to the multitudes of shortboard sites.

A trick page could get strange because lots of people get simple stuff like frontside and backside confused ,they think that frontside is different if done in a different stance. A few years ago most of my downhill was done on under 36" boards usually about as long as you could make from a uncut blank with max wheelbase and hard slippery wheels. I generally did about every combination slide I could imagine; frontside coleman into backside 360or 540 with a hand switch to fakie then out of fakie with either handdown spining the slide either frontside or backside, and that could end up going back to fakie, tricks would get done unintentionally I get stuck coming out of moves fakie. layback slides are really cool with slider gloves switch laybacks are real cool especially if you stay true to the stance and don't come out reg. stance. Not all these moves were done at 40mph but many work better near the end of a long slide after your wheels have lost all hope of traction, and these combo slides work better on really really steep hills, so be careful out there and progress slowly.

i'm so down with what shea was saying in regards to a trick page. how can we get the site to start up a tricks (bulletin) board? or is that under the all-encompasing "riding techniques" board?
p.s. i know it's not cool that my girlfriend rollerblades, but do you think if she gets on her skates, could she pull me up hills any faster than a dog?

After Exhausting all of the hills on Cape Cod(not too many) Me and my buddy decided to check out the golf course around sunset so know one would be peltin us with balls. After walk ing around for a bit we decided to bomb a few golf cart trac ks. Man, what a rush. Perfect pavement on sick downhills with no chance of car carnage. After dark we ventured onto the fairways. When the sprinklers went on we thought it was time to go home. Until I found a huge hill still soaked from the sprinklers. I rode down it about half way and did about a 40foot slide to fakie. This is the best fun i've had since snowboarding this winter. I recomend this, but don't bring your abec 5's, cause your bearings are likely to get funked up.

yo egg- I couldn't agree more about the saftey issues involved, suburban dog sledding is a very dangerous sport. Me n Max live 2 hit bike paths and such park like places these days, cus even semi-quiet neighborhood streets will shit cars on ya when yer flyin around corners, and lets not forget that blowin stop signs at 25+ is always a bad idea.
hey Steve- You sound like a pimp. Ive been grabbin both shoulders n goin at it for years, but I still haven't mastered the art of being able to just grab whichever girl is available and get to it. They usually make me be their boyfriend first. Ne tips on skippin that part??

The dog thing... Yeah, it is lots of fun. I was using my roomates dog, but then I moved. Bummer. Anyway, since that time, I guess they have had some close calls with the cars. Now they don't do that anymore. The moral... Nobody wants a squished dog, so be carefull!

Steve,
I don't have a girlfriend anymore either. You can probably guess why. Although I appreciate the tip, I never thought about using somebody else's chick.

I used to attach a rope around my girfriend, and have her pull me up the steeps. She was only good for a couple runs before her constant bickering became intolerable. Nothing beats mans best friend.
