I know there are already a bunch of "stop slagging Sector 9" posts on here, but I have to add another.
I quit skating a few years ago because the shortboard scene really started to suck. If your pants weren't big enough and you couldn't pull nollie heel-flips you were called "poser" by kids who were younger in years than you had been skating.
Then I walked into a skate shop on a whim for the first time in six years and saw a Sector 9 Cloud Nine. I took it for a test run outside the shop cuz it looked fun and a minute later it was mine. I rode it all night after work. When I got home I got online and did a search for sites. NCDSA, Souled Out, Nose Wheelie, wow! Look at all the people who are still into skating just to skate and enjoy the soul of it all......not to make a fashion statement. I dug around online and checked out more companies. My Black 29 "Royale" is almost ready to be shipped. My girlfriend loves the Powell Noserider I got for her. My Exkates take their first run tomorrow morning. Everyone should be THANKING Sector 9 for being aggressive in their advertising and having a DAMN GOOD PRODUCT that gets people interested in this sport. If it weren't for my Cloud 9 (which I will ride forever) I never would have spent money on anyone elses products because I wouldn't have even known they were there. Besides that....their boards are sweet as pie baby. If you feel the need to dis companies and brands, then you should buy yourself some big baggy Jenco Jeans and hang out with the "in crowd" shortboarders. I'll stay here with the coolest bunch of (mostly) non judgemental people I have ever encountered.

In an effort to put my eXkates on one of my longer boards,
I was thinking about moving my Randalls to my short Cosmic2.
This seems like a real shite setup though, so I wanted to know
if anyone had tried this already?

Man if you love longboarding you have to pick up both the Gravity video-"Slides" and the Sector 9 video-"Rollin" both videos are awsome!!! What Mr. Coleman needs to do is get together with a good video company and putout an instructional tape for longboarders...Take care, JR

What about the IRC channel #Sidewalksurf
We were there at 3 PM (french time) and met another person nicknamed Rusti ( from Australia)
other people was OLV, a longboarder from Paris, France, and me, Largol, from Grenoble, France
We had a nice chat except the fact that there is no bot on this chan! But I'll try to set one

Feel free to use this channel as often as you can

After going to the Exkate website and hearing from all of you guys, I really want some of the Exkate trucks (my current trucks are knackered), but they cost twice as much as just about any of the others. Are they really worth it?

That's cool, (ya lazy bastard) If you scanned them would it be easier? Or better yet, save it for the CD. Oh yeah, I just ordered my exkates! I talked to Jason and he said their store is up on-line (like ten minutes ago! The web guy was just putting the link to it when I was talking to him). Check it out at exkatestore.com. Ok, later late!

Eggman, the reason I don't post the articles is simple. I'm lazy. Doing the articles would require typing them in.

As far as the CD goes, I'm glad to see so much response. Part of the reason that I was thinking CD was because they could be produced cheaply. I would tend to think that something that's HTML driven. I'm sure that about anybody who has a CD drive on their computer also has a browser (Netscape/Internet Explorer). That way you could make something that looks a little more attractive--rather than just double clicking a list of files. I like the idea of an international feel. Maybe we could copy the text from the IRC Program and post it somewhere, so that people who can't make it could se what was discussed.

Hey Chris,
So I guess my next question is.....Why don't you post copies of the articles on your page? They really are great stuff. I could scan some or Spanky could (ain't that right Spanky). Anyway it is just a thought. Speaking of thoughts, that CD is a good one. It seems to me that there could be reporters from the different regions (France, O.C. San Diego, San Fran, OZ, or wherever) Maybe get out and film your favorite run or something. I would be most honored to submit my time. Ok, so when is this happining? Unfortunatally I can't join you guys on IRC, so let me know what is going on. Later late

You guys know Im in on the CD. Sounds like a winner to me.
The 1994 Guinness Book of World Records says that Roger Hickey went 55.43 mph standing up on 3 july 1990. Same guy got to 78.37 mph in "prone position" on 15 march 1990.
While were on the subject, in Aug. 85' David Frank ,25, covered 270.5 miles in 36 hrs, 43 min. 40 sec.
High jump record is 5 feet 5 3/4 inches (thats taller than my wife!!) Trevor Baxter set it in Sept of 82.
And as everyone should know, on the 25th of sept, 1977 Tony Alva jumped 17 barrels (17 feet).
Hope this helps. Its an old copy of Guinness but probably a good idea of what we have to beat.

Kilamanjaro, I read recently that the Guiness book of World Records listed the record for a skateboard at around 58 MPH (I can't remember the exact speed or the rider) I have heard that George Orton has done 61 MPH. They were doing 56 to 58 MPH in the X-Games, so who is the fastest man or woman alive on a skateboard? I don't know...anyone? Spanky's speeding out of here!

Yo Spanky/Eggman,

The disclaimer I use on my page is "All photos on this page were taken from old issues of Skateboarder Magazine. If you own the
copyright to any of these images and object to their being posted, please let me know, and they will be removed." I know this is only slightly different from what the Spankster said. The only reason I point it out is that I'm sure that the images are still copyrighted. If Surfer Publications do not still own the rights, I'm sure that the original photographers do. Copyrights last a long time, and I wouldn't assume that a 20 year old magazine (or book for that matter) is no longer copyrighted. Personally, I think that it is unlikely that somebody is going to sue you over posting this stuff on the web. At least, I hope so. More than likely they would just tell you to take them down and no do it again.

The other point that Spanky brought up was that longboarding needs a magazine. It sure as hell does. I've kicked the idea around of starting one, but I don't have the time to do it all by myself. Personally, I think that it would be best to do one as a CD. One of the biggest problems with doing a magazine like this would be that printing in color on slick paper gets real expensive. A CD wouldn't have these problems. And you could do things that would be impractical on a web-based magazine, such as high-quality graphics and longer Quicktime movies--things that people wouldn't want to wait to download via modem. I really think that there are enough people who frequent this page to get the thing off the ground. It would just be a matter of getting together and dividing up the responsibilities.

Any thoughts on this? E-mail me or post a message here.
