Well yes ... I have just finished digesting the first pass of the book, believe me when I say the first pass of many !
Ok I could be rather biased here as I have 4 pages out of the 160 in the book, and hell yes I am biased about my bits, but I can be objective about the rest. Indeed I would like to say that my bits are the highlights, but I am afraid they pale into insignificance compared to thelayers of history and wisdom contained with Michaels first ever book !
This is the first book devoted to the history of our life style and could have been a big flop as most ‘history’ of sport books tend to be, you know lists of bloody MVP’s and highest scores, or else it could have got bogged into the technical side of skate boards, highlighting how and why changes happened. Although we probably would have still have loved it the general populace would have had very little use for it outside the appropriate small room. BUT instead this is a book that is nigh on impossible to not browse through. Even non skating friends (I do have a few that have withstood the conversion attempts) are a pain to get it back off them. With skating friends if they are older you’ll be subjected to a barrage of “I had them, I remember that/them, gee I have one of those in the garage”, younger skating friends learn that there was life before pressure flips !
I couldn’t imagine how it could be set out better, it’s in a large almost coffee table (where it’s been all week to greet the visotors) format in full colour and bloody heaps and heaps of photos guaranteed to stir the soul. What is not in here about skateboarding is probably not worth knowing about (although exkates may have warranted a mention from a longboard point of view) and the history is set out in 4 waves :
1959-65
1973-80
1983-91
1993 onwards
Now to us “never bloody stopped mate” skaters these dates may seem odd but they refer to the general public crazes that happened. Remember the days you couldn’t get any equipment apart from through a dodgy network of people which made the French underground in WWII seem like amateurs, remember the days of not being able to buy wheels much bigger than the bearings ... well with this book you will !
The most notworthy thing about the book is that you will come back to it again and again as a reference tool. The sections are laid out so you can follow the history through or do a hen peck, pick up open and read approach, which again makes it ideal for non skating friends.
I don’t want to put any quotes etc and spoil the book for you but every skater should be forced to buy this book ! Every school and library should have one and every bloody cop or hired cop who stops you skating somewhere should be forced fed the knowledge in this book and I rekon they would be out there skating afterwards !
Don’t buy this book because you are a skater, buy it because it is a BLOODY good book. And from now on whenever anyone says “why do you still skate” .. you just hand them the book.
I am proud to be even a small part of this work and am smug in the knowledge that my name appears on the same page as my heroes !
Buy this book and one day I can mug Michael for some of the royalties !

Nose Wheelie Goes Dot Com
Well, I finally did it. I went and got the domain name, www.nosewheelie.com.
I've added three new sections and got rid of one. I've added a Gallery, so that I can post
pics that people send me or that I have that don't have a story to go with them. There's a
Vintage Skategear section that will have pics and info on stuff from skateboarding's
yesteryears. Finally, there's a Stuff section. The Bulletin Board is no more. I had only had about three or four messages
posted in the year and a half that Nose Wheelie's been around. If you want to post
messages, come here, Longboard Lounge, Soul Carve's letters page, etc., where
they do it right.
Everything from the old site has been moved over or at least linked to, but eventually it's
all going away, so if you've bookmarked anything or made any links you should change
them over to www.nosewheelie.com.
There's a new feature, two news stories, an editorial, and basically all of the sections have been updated. Check it out at

I'm trying to locate several people, I have not seen for 20 years. One is Roger Hickey (who on numerous times my mother Gina bailed out of jail). Beau Brown (Duncan is his real name), Rick Denton, Ty Tyson (Albert was his real name) I grew as the younger sister of Rick Ringler. Roger and Beau formed to the best my memory a team called Madrid? Is there anybody out there who may know where some of these skaters are? I grew up in Huntington Beach CA, Beau and Rick had a place together on the beach.

Well I rarely dish out on something but on this occassion I must. I had heard that the Sector 9 red9 video was basically new school stuff. Fine I thought everyones allowed to ride a longboard however they want, personaly I can't see much point to riding a longboard like a shortboard (but usually worse) but each to their own. So I was still excited to get hold of a copy of the video (only just out over here).
Well obviously Sector 9 now think that there is little point riding a longboard like a shortboard either .... their solution is to a) make the boards shorter like the new mini cloud 9 b) produce shortboards. Still it's up to them BUT WHY make out like it is a longboard video ? The longboard content is minimal in the video, a tiny bit of downhill, a second rate new school segment and then the return of corporate man. Now I thought at least a decent bit, the commuting office man had been one of the hightlights of the first video. Even he was now relegated to the end segment where he spends most of the time pushing along next to traffic ! The other 95 percent of the video is short board stuff and to be honest pretty lame (for a video) shortboarding. So the longboarding is crap (you see better everyday in your own area) the short boarding is second rate for a major video and they have lost their SOUL !! Even the surfing was pretty lame.
Sector 9 have sold out .. I always defended them but now they have just lost the plot !
If you longboard I urge you DON'T buy the video, a) out of principal and b) Because it is CRAP !!!
Sorry about rambling on but I am writing in absolute DISGUST !!!!

i think that you and your down hill skate boarding is the best thing that had ever hapened to this world but that is just way cool. I've been down hilling sence about well as long as i can reamber. I am 43 now and hope i never get old. I guess that is just the way of life though. you dont get to involved with any other sports like this one. Your sport kicks ass hoe it never goes. I can't think of anything more full of it, than shaping a longboard like a snowboard. Snowboards are shaped like owties for a reason-to catch and edge in the snow and carve. The shape is nothing but a waste of wood for a longboard.
