I went to Berklee College of music. I was a sax player, sorry Arab.
Best horn playing band funk jazz band ever...Brecker Bros. - Back to Back album or heavy Metal beBop.

1.Rock (1980 to current)
Clash

2.Classic Rock (pre 1980)
Clash

3.Best Album/CD (if you were stuck on an island w/only 1)
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue or
John Coltrane - Love Supreme

4.Greatest Guitar player ever
Reverend Horton Heat

5.Worse song you EVER heard! (the one you really hate)
the 70's song "afternoon delight"
runners up "midnight at the oasis", "morning train", what was that song by Aha? any of the 80's "new romatic" bands.

6.Favorite CD/Tape (to hear while skateing)
Aerosmith "Draw the line" they used to play that at pland Pipeline all the time. It reminds me of microwave pizza, 32 oz Mountain Dews, smog, and 120 degree all day skate sessions at Upland in the summer.

Darren, Thats like a total trip....I mean Im going through a bazar "DajaVa" You said T.O.P "maybe it will rub off" being on a blank home made tape. I had a blank maxell tape with a "Best of" T.O.P from about 6 albums. It had maybe it will rub off included....Funny Thing is I really never knew what they were singing! I always thought it was: "Baby your a rebel" about 2 years later I (in like 1987) I got "East Bay Grease" and baam! "Maybe it will rub off" Killer bass line. Yeah, since I was introduced to T.O.P (Tower of Power) They almost instantly became my favorite band So FREAKIN cool funky soulfull groves. Songs like "Soul with a capitol S" "Still b diggin on James Brown" and classics like "Soul Vaccination" "What is hip" "Skatin on thin Ice" With like 14 CDs out since 1971 I dont believe T.O.P has a bad song. They are so freakin Talented. I love watching Connan O'Brien show Beacause atleast once a month Max Wienberg (who is a kick@zz drummer)7 go's into "What is hip" on a commercial break...I hear that speedy Roco bass line then the horns jump in with "Bam-Bam"... Next thing ya know Im up off my lazy ass at 1am bouncing around the house.

Wich brings me to this Question: (or poll)
What is your Favorite: Artist or Band in these catigories
1.Rock (1980 to current)
2.Classic Rock (pre 1980)
3.Best Album/CD (if you were stuck on an island w/only 1)
4.Greatest Guitar player ever
5.Worse song you EVER heard! (the one you really hate)
6.Favorite CD/Tape (to hear while skateing)

***HERES THE TUFF PART***
RULES: You can only choose 1!
(Yeah, I know thats pretty hard only 1 per catigory)
*You CAN NOT choose "The Best of (your favorites band)CD"
That would be toooooo EASY! (ie) Best Album: Led-Zepplins
4 CD box set. <-NOPE thats cheating!
* only other RuleDont knock on anyones answers!
BECAUSE Music is in the eye of the beholder, It moves people any many different ways. SO PLEASE Don't Dog anyones choices. Hey, if you skate to ABBA (and have the balls to type that in) I wouldnt dog ya, Probably laugh!! but I wont dis-ya for your choice.

Im keeping this poll in the "Rock catigory" because Im figuring 95% of all skaters like R&R.

My Answers
1)Stevie Ray Vaughan
for bringing Rockin/Blues into my life. R.I.P Brother

2)Yes

3)Yes "Close to the Edge"

4)Johnny Lee Hooker
(most copied or "ripped off" guitar player that had more to do with inspiring rock than anyone! From Clapton to the Stones,Beattles to Led-Zep everyone has stolen a John Lee Hooker original guitar riff) R.I.P Johnny "you were the man"

5)Fine Young Cannibals song: "She drives me crazy"
That guys voice makes me wanna Vomit! or up-root flower gardens every where.

6)Less Than Jake (ska/core music) "Hellow Rockview"
This entire SKA CD is so full of Energy that I listen too on Bad @ss Downhill runs. Makes me Push my limits almost to dangerious levels.

OK thats my 6 answers, If you asked me again 1 hour later they could possibly change. I sooo wanted to slip Thin Lizzy in But,Thats cheating! Choosing 1 is pretty hard!

Lets see your choices!

What do you call someone who hangs out with musicians?

A drummer.

How many guitarists does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Five, one to do it and four to say they could have done it
better.

How do you know when your band is about to make it?

Your Bass player quits all his/her other bands.

Is this thing on?

Yeah JD!! Tower of Power I think should be mentioned for their horn skills and they are still going strong today as I understand. "Maybe it'll rub off" is a top tune, god I heard that song years and years ago and didn't know who it was, ya know some cassette with no writing on it, spent years wondering who the hell it was and eventually found out.

3 piece bands? Minutemen R.I.P D Boon, I hope Mike Watt and George are getting paid for "Corona" being the Jackass Theme!!

Anyone listen to Frank Zappa? Damn! whipping post is an amazing song..

Yeah yeah yeah....

JD, asking about Jazz skater cats.....I bet im one of the younger jazz fans but I love it...mostly progressive stuff.....like John Scofield, I think he is one of my favorites. He always has a killer band. Check out Blue Matter, it came out when I was 5 and it is still one of my favorite albums..I think it was Dennis Chambers big breakout after P-funk. Im a drummer too....and yes I know about all of the fun surrounding gigs as a drummer.....I need some roadies. I guess thats all for now....Oh, I like to skate.

Yeah, thats cool if we can use this forum
to talk about music and other non-related
skate issues.
Im currently trying to talk the "ol guys"
in my band to learn "Precious" from the 1st
Pretenders album (pre CD) Ever hear that Arab?

So whats your Bass set up Arab? 1971 Fender "P" precision
with a bad @ss SWR 2 15s" and a seperate 4 12s" cabnet
being pushed by a Crown 2000 watt.

Anyways yah Im always good to talk music
As long as Adam has no problems with us using this forum.

Could be an Awesome Forum,
Music and skaters seem 2 go hand in hand!
I mean check it out....Arab & I will probably never
agree on bearings BUT we can have civilized conversations
on music.

Hope this is cool w/ you Adam,

Speaking of guys singing horn parts, in the 80's there was a new wave band in Atlanta called Now Explosion (every bit a queer as the name sounds). They used to do the Ohio Player's "Skin Tight" in a remarkably cheesy way.

What can I say, I had a mixed childhood...Johnny Cash, 70's metal, and funk.

VEHICLE,

I had a little side band going for awhile with a bunch of local players called "Arab and the Suburban Turbans" (ala Blues Brothers), I was on the way to band practice one day around 1984ish driving my 60 Olds Super88 listening to my stock AM radio and "Vehicle" comes on, I pulled to the side of the road pulled out my Bass and learned the song, I show up at practice all stoked thinking I'm gonna show all these hot shot players a new song to play, So I sez hey check this out! I bust into Vehicle and everybody follows right along, seems that everybody had played it in other bands before, What was cool was when the Horn part came along the 2 singers just Sang it, La La.. La... La.... La..., It was a gas to say the least and one of my favorite all time songs to play, Guys singin Horn Parts is actually better then real horns and funny as all Sh&T.

Screw bearings lets talk music.

Let it Roll....
On 12/17/2002 JD wrote in from (65.58.nnn.nnn)

I played "Let it Roll" in the mid 80s by a band
named UFO remember ufo?
Misty Green & Blue (love to love you)*UFOs only Radio Hit*
2 Hot 2 Handle
Lights out Lights out London
Electric Phaze
Mother Mary

Wow, the late 70s! UFO Rocked *Thin Lizzy too!*

my favorite UFO tune: Shoot Shoot
In my best Phil Mogg voice
"My 2 45s will do the trick...and pay the Bills
Know shes got a pistol, she laid it down on me and she said,
Shoot-Shoot Shoot it Boy,... ya got shoot it for me!" and Michael Shanker comes in with just another classic KILLER guitar solo!

I remember UFO was BIG! 1st time I saw them live (1977?)Judas Priest actually opened for UFOs "Stranger in the Night" tour
Priest were nobodys then (atleast in the states) permoting/touring there "Sin after Sin" album/8track tape!
Wow, did Priest ever make it big....Sold out to Mtv and chessy Rock Anthems by 1983. Never put out a good album after "Stained Class" (JMHO)
Britsh Stell "living after midnight" was the downfall of the Metal/Dark Priest I loved in H.S. Although I understand anyband selling out for "The Almighty Dollar"
Remember when Matallica was good? (prime example)
Master of Puppets last good CD (JMHO)

Sorry for the long (non skate) read, Dont get me going on music...Jazz to Punk I like and have play it all and have long winded opinions on every type and style.
JD

PS: RAP?.....arghhhhh! My best Gangsta Rap:

"Well my names JD and I dont know how to rap,
So I went down town and I bought a Ford truck"

THATS RIGHT I DO NOT RAP! why should you?

or as Greg Allhman once said:
"Rap why do you think it rhymes with Crap"

Ides of March, Yeah I used to play (1982) in a band
that covered "Ides of March" by a band called Iron Madden. The band Im currently in plays 70s style Rock its a 3 piece the other 2 cats are like 46 & 52 and have played all there lives. I personally do not like some of the weird $hit we play. Some of its very obscure from floyd to Zappa. I joined "The River Batz" 4 months ago to stay Steadly employed Because thats not easy living in a (Back woods Red neck Tabacoo chewing, Tractor Driving, 4x4 w/KC lights and a gun rack truck driving, "Lets go find a Longhair and beat em up" Garth Brooks loving) Logging Town with over 10% unemployment. The band formly called "The Batz" had an occult following through-out the north west in the late 80s early 90s. Funniest *^%$ing thing I have see is: When we play an original song from theire 1st released CD "Help Iv fallen and I cant get up" Some of these die hard "Batz fans" show up and throw them selfs on the dance floor and flop like fishes! Anyways, its definatly NOT my Favorite band I have played in over the past 20+years BUT (and most important) These 2 cats have good connections and seem to keep me employed. Friday Night @ "The Spot" in Vancouver,WA (on S.Millplain Av.) Music starts @ 9pm Any skaters wanna show up and talk shop would be great. Ed (of Pleasure Tools) and his wife will be there along with a few other Skaters I have meet here on NCDSA. No I dont sing But I take a couple LONG solos that make Neil Periet (RUSH) look like a school boy! If enough skaters show up I'll dedicate my Special solo to the Skate catz here on NCDSA *This is my 7min solo that was inspired by John Bohnham (RIP bro) That features usually me bleeding from a no-sticks hand solo. Very Intense.(only if theres a good crowd)

NOW TO KEEP THIS POST *other than a plug for my band*

Arab you made a Good Point!
On 12/17/2002 JD wrote in from (65.58.nnn.nnn)

Kudos to you Arab
You make a very valid point.
As I see it you really finally admited that
my original point: A 10th or 10K second win could
actually be because of a riders skill or error not
just a bearing.
And OH YES, I STILL BELIEVE THAT FACTOR along with:
The best equipment will provide better times.
THATS ALL I TRIED TO POINT OUT

Cmon Arab, you do agree right?

Arab, I was told buy a person tonight that your actually
a very nice person to meet face to face with a good attitude. I'll respect that persons opinion and being a mellow cat myself I wont bring anymore hostilities into this forum.

About my "Blind Placebo" test,
I still also believe this would provide a few answers
Although not 100% scientific hands down results I do think,
If you took numorus riders through various rideing conditions and placed in various *unknown to the rider bearings* timed them not in a head to head comp. Then Tallied up alot of riders times It would be a (in the ballpark) idea of wich bearing seemed to perform well after various blind test. *Again not 100% accurate* But, A little less confusing than just Someone saying "These cats ride these bearings and win so they have to be the best" Can you agree the test could atleast sort out a bit of this hype?

And just 1 more time for the record, Yes Arab I do believe Oust makes a Quality bearing. I just haven't agreed it's the best. If consumer report wants to do an accurate full scale bearing report I would welcome that too. *Don't believe its gonna happen soon* So lets just see what happens with this test and not arguee about it hear.

Thanks for your constructive imput.
1 Q: I wanted to ask you before $2,500 a week for road manager. Right on! Why would you ever stop Im guessing family life...right?

and to think I now bust my ass and hump my own equipment (Drums are NOT light) for $100 to $200 a night, free drinks, and a few ego strokes. And ever once in a great while A club owner may send a couple complimentry Tacos my way!
Actually (has nothing to do with SK8'n) My biggest thrill in music now after 20yrs comes down to All age shows when a kid will walk up to me and say "JD your cool dude..
I wanna learn to play the drums" Thats really what its all about! Used to be BigHair and lotz of *kitty* Now I just wanna inspire a kid to play and make a fair living not punching a 9 to 5 time clock! Cant recall if I put my leather jacket on in the past 6mos other than to bomb a hill. LIFE IS GOOD!

Good Karma,
JD

Well, New Years will put $600 in my pocket
*Good wage for 4 hours and Free Drinks* :)
