JD at this time I dont have a bass rig, I'm a Guitar player that happens to play bass also, I have had numerous Basses over the years, P,Jazz,Rick, and even a Lucite Dan Armstrong to name a few, I was Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers Bass Tech for about 12 yrs so I always got to use his stuff also.
For Guitars I collected vintage stuff for years, Les Pauls, Strats, Today I cant afford the high dollar stuff so I have several reissues, 62 candy apple red tele, 54 Black Strat and a Epiphone Les Paul.
For Amps I collect a very rare Fender Super Champ, made for only 2 years and designed by Paul Rivera for Fender, it was thier version of a Boogie, 20 watts 1x10 little power house, I hook up four together and it sounds like a 59 bassman on Viagra.
I may scimp on my musical instruments but I stop at nothing for the best skateboard bearings.

The sticks are not clear. They are the exact sticks seen at the url I posted Only they do not have the ineer lasers. Aircraft Alum. hollow body @ about 12mm. I really liked the suggestion of fibre optics. will fibre optics mount to a lasers lense? (If yes) Thats probably the solution.

sorry i ended the post too soon. so using a clear drumstick hollow out the end and use a cylume light, it could be kept in the end with a rubber stopper. cheap, re-usable and it would make your hands glow. a lot cheaper that 295 bucks. reguarding the use of cheap lasers, i don't know if they would take repeated impact. sure some lasers are used in construction and weapons grade stuff, and they cost alot of money. who ever posted about the fiber optics is right, those can be made cheaply. or try LEDs, you can get those at auto parts stores. just a few ideas, good luck.

I can't believe I'm commenting on this thread, but, mount the laser in the handle end of the stick and use a small fiber optic bundle to carry the light out the end, would work even if jarred heavily (no need to worry about alignment). OK I'm done.

Chuck & Jeff, thanks for the suggestions. OK, I just want to point out YES, I already figured the laser bodys would fit at the bottom of my sticks. Thus avoiding atleast 50% of most side wall impact. And yes, I figured a 2mm hole through the nylon tip should allow most if not all allumination of the beam. I even figured out by using a insulating gel... You know Jeff (Being the extreme car all aspects GURU!) Something like ultra blue gasket seal? Set up as a solid but gives a little rebound kinda like a 78a krypto. Oh, excuse me Chris I mean the Flashbacks. Anyway, good Idea if I must remove a faulty laser body/unit. Is that a good idea Jeff?
2 slight set backs thus far: A.Diameter of the hollow T-50 Alu shell of stick 15mm meaning: about 13.5mm inner tube diameter. *Finding a manufactured laser under 12mm* Thus allowing room for insultion/dampening/sealing Basicly I need a tech who can desemble the laser unit and apply the basic power supply mini-diod chip and lense and reassemble it into the actual stick sheel/body. Maybe--->*** Hugh ??????***
B.The simple use of on/off switch slash activate button. Most inexpensive laser units (ebay under $5 all day long) Feature the side push button to activate the laser. Obviously this will not do. Another modification to render the on/off switch activated via the bottom of the stick. Im sure that could also be modified easly by a "tech guy"
As you can see I have thought (ok I'v freakin Dwelled) on this little venture for many hours. Simple enough, Find a perfect diameter pre-fabed laser that has a simple on off button on the bottom....OK Reality, I need a "tech" who can pull apart the laser unit/body a reassemble it at the proper alingment.
Hugh, Have you ever messed with a pen spot laser?
Good Karma & Bright lights, JD
PS: My comment about Jeff (Mr.Bozi) being a car genius Thats no kiss ass statement! You folks really need to see what Jeff can do with not only his hands...But his brains when it comes to every aspect of SERIOUS car modification, fabrication, electronics, and serious HP output.

2. Classic Rock (pre 1980)
The Damned, Clash, Buzzcocks, Ramones
3. Best Album/CD (if I were stuck on an island w/only 1)
Bob Marley "Legends"
4. Greatest Guitar player ever
Jimi Hendrix, Billy Gibbons(because Hendrix said so), SRV because he carried the tradition of Jimi
5. Worst song you EVER heard! (the one you really hate)
Anything I've ever heard by SUPERTRAMPJOURNEYTOTOSTYXLOVERBOYETC YUCK!!!!!!
6.Favorite CD/Tape (to hear while skateing)
The Damned, Clash, Buzzcocks, Ramones
And I'll go with whoever said Aerosmith "Draw the Line" that song sez it all. Joe Wood the old singer of TSOL used to think that the verse that Steven Tyler sings where he is just screamin at the top of his lungs was the gnarliest singin ever, I'd have to agree, try and sing/scream along to that part.
Quick funny story: I've raised my 8yr old Nathan on a good healthy dose of Punk Rock, He likes the Dickies, Ramones, Blink 182, Offspring, The Hunns, US BOMBS.
So like all the current hot skaters with the big hair-dos tight black jeans etc (Tony Trujillo) He's lettin his hair grow long so he can stay with the trend, OF COURSE!
He tells Mom the other day after seeing Steven Tyler on TV that he likes the way he looks, likes the way he dresses, and likes the way he sings. I'm gonna go buy him some Aerosmith records I'm sure he's gonna like Draw the line!
Arab
PS Tony Trujillo Is my favorite current skater, If you dont know who he is, He has all the style of a classic 70's skater with all the skills of the current and combines them both with the gnarliest attack of anything in site, I have never seen anybody demolish and destroy any terrain like this guy, Pools, Street, Ramps whatever. Go out and get the Transworld video "In Bloom" It is worth every penny to see the Tony T part, When you see what he does to this pool you will sh!t your pants! trust me!
Then come back here and after you clean your panties and tell everybody else about it. It is so cool to see guys like this, He is THRASHERs Skateboarder of the year, and I hope kids will see that it aint all about kickflips and rails, its about doin it all, and Tony does it all!

Joe, the story about Nick talking his way backstage for Strummer warmed my heart...I bet they just loved him backstage! I got to see the Clash a few times in Atlanta back in their heyday (and once past it..yeeeeuuuch!...Cut the Crap indeed!). We made it backstage one of those times...never really bothered talking to any of the guys in the band, but chatted all night long with Kosmo Vinyl once we saw his Cramps T-Shirt and found out he was a member of the LOTC. Then there was the time backstage at the 9:30 in DC for a Cramps show, Novemebr 1, 1983, talking hairspray with Lux and Ivy...jeez, I need to stop rambling or I'll go on all night.
JD...yeah, Jeff's got it right, put the lasers in the butt end of the sticks. Drill the stick for a good snug fit. Lasers at $10 each, you could probably afford to fry 'em every now and then. To get to the matter of impact resistance, any kind of cushioning would allow them to move to some degree, maybe the beam wouldn't shine out the end if that happened. Or maybe get some of the stuff that Tempur-pedic matresses are made of and smoosh it down (highly technical term) into some real dense padding. Beyond that, it's all about the impact resistance of the laser unit, not what you do for it. $40 for sticks?? $300 for laser sticks??!!?? Wow...
Me? I'd just hose clamp a laser pointer to the sides of the sticks...turn down the lights and no one will know the difference. Wouldn't be as trick but it would look just as cool from the crowd. Which is how I made my "sniper" launcher for bottle rocket fights...a laser clamped to the side of a PVC pipe. First time out, when the dot would shine on someone, they'd be like "whatever"....until a half hour into the fight, they were running whenever the dot hit 'em. It was accurate! Now, they fear the dot. Sorry, that has nothing to do with your sticks...

JD, Im stabbing in dark here, but Im guessing on the high tech "laser"(lil Dr. Evil there) drum sticks that the lazer may be more towards the handle end, so its not really get snot beat outta it like if mounted in tip. I imagine its mounted about where your hand holds stick, & has a nice machined hole through tip. That would be cool. I remember Sheila E. used to have ones with lighted tips that changes colors, when they blacked out the lights on her solo, it was just trails of light. I imagine the "laser" sticks would be 10 times cooler in a dark smoke filled bar. Good luck with it. Maybe fid out where that place is getting them from as well. Jeff

Chuck I have serious question, you being a design engineer could you help Suggest how I could pull this off? I have these drum sticks made by Easton Ahead (yea the sports guys who make expensive bats & tennis rackets) They made a set of sticks that feature lasers built inside them. Very cool but My wife would absolutely (I wont even say!) If I paid the $295.00 price for A pair. Basically you have an aircraft (T-50?) aluminum hollow stick body with 2 lasers placed at the bottom and are aligned to have the illuminating laser shoot out through a small (2mm?) opening at the tip. OK, it doesn't take a rocket scientist (NO PUN INTENDED) to design this simple set up. Sticks @ $40 and 2 pin spot lasers at about $10 to $20 each. I can personally buy the lasers and drill a pin hole at the tip. Simple enough right? OK, my only question how do I cushion the laser inside the body to withstand HA HA HA-”Side loads” OK all joking aside that is my dilemma……Keeping the laser aligned while being played and taking serious hits. I'm sure NASA pays you top dollars to figure out more concerning issues….I just wanna be “too cool” but I’m no fool shelling out $295.00! heres a link for a visual on these sticks. As I stated they are hollow bodied with removable replaceable tips (striking ball on top) and removable butt ends (where laser body) would slip into. http://store.drumbum.com/skuSTK-5.html
Ya know Chuck if you (No make that: You & I) could design these for under $100 I do believe “we” could retire in 6 months. Until that day comes, I just want to Construct a pair for solos. Any suggestions to cushion and stabilize the lasers ?

1.Rock (1980 to current)Nevermind - Nirvana. One of the cool things about Rock is how someone comes along and shakes it up every once in a while. Pistols did it, Nirvana did it, bands like the Vines and the Hives are doing it now. In spite of all the airplay Smells Like Teen Spirit got, Nevermind is an awsome album end to end.
2.Classic Rock (pre 1980)Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen. Yeah, I'm from Jersey, exit 7A. I've seen everybody from Black Flag to Frank Sinatra. Bruce blows them all away.
3.Best Album/CD (if you were stuck on an island w/only 1) Always a tough choice. I love great albums like Pet sounds and Damn the Torpedos, but for shear musical diversity and really smart lyrics, I gotta go with London Calling. I would of course want to stick the double album into the sleeve for Radar Love or Whip Cream and Other Delights. C'mon I'm stuck on an island, I need at least one picture of a naked woman.
4.Greatest Guitar player ever I'll for go the traditional dead guy thing and pick someone I saw recently. Brian Setzer rocked hard and kept the beauty of the melody so it didn't sound like a symphony.
5.Worse song you EVER heard! (the one you really hate) I had my friends threaten the DJ at my wedding that they would beat him up if he played Celebration by Kool and the Gang.
6.Favorite CD/Tape (to hear while skateing) Living in Darkness - Agent Orange. Strictly for tearing it up of course. I'd need different albums for slalom, freestyle, longboarding, high jump, barrel jump.

Before I answer the music Q's let me brag on my kid a bit. For those of you that don't know Nick, he turned 7 this year. He's a cool little kid with the heart of a skater.
I'm 38 and while I love nearly all music, my heart is stuck in the music of my youth. I play it all for Nick. Some he likes. Some he flat out refuses to listen to.
His first concert was Elvis Costello at age 4. I don't look forward to the day that I have to explain that "Mystery Dance" has nothing to do Scooby Do.
When they played London Calling in Die Another Day, Nick laughed outloud and punched me in the arm. The Clash remains his favorite band. When we saw Joe Strummer last year Nick talked us into the dressing room. I was at a loss for words as Nick chatted away.
As for skate songs, Nick sings to himself while we practice slalom. The two songs I heard him sing most often this year were Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones and Agent Orange's No Such Thing.
I sometimes worry that I'm doing him a disservice. That I should let him go thru the whole Nsync thing that other kids do.
Yeah like that's gonna happen.

Hello all, Helene here, JD's understanding wife. He said to thank you Jeff, Mr.Bozi, for staying within the rules. Living with JD I hear probably every style of music from ska in the morning with our coffee to a lot of Mississippi delta blues. Don't tell JD, but I'm getting tired of listening to The Batz (his new band's cd), although I understand he is doing this for learning purposes only. We listen (or atleast he does) to the jazz station all night long. If you skaters knew him (JD) you would know he is very complex yet open to almost all styles of music except rap. JD has been reading off your musical list to me and I wanted to add my favs too! : )
80s to Current, Metallica old stuff, Led Zeppelin Album ever, Physical Graffiti Guitar player, Jimi Hendrix bad song, Wake me up before you go go by Wham skating music, I haven't skated since the early 90s so I will say for energy, Aerosmith Pump cd
and greatest drummer :) I hope you boys will get the chance to see JD shine. If he was average I would still love him but he is exceptional, really he is!
and about the bearing issues I understand you all have your opinions but, I have done slapped JD in da back of the head for what I see as macho hoopla.

Quick funny note, as all this is going on. A friend of mine has a band "Stiff Richard" ( yeah, I know), they play all types of bars & clubs, ussaully play 70's-80's rock, the good stuff, tone it up or down depending on venue. Anyhow, doesnt matter where they played, theyd end the night by playin "Play that funky music white boy", I swear it was like lighting a match under everybodys ass in the whole place. I mean every damn person was up & dancing in like 10 seconds, at 2 am. My friend said where ever they went, no matter what crowd or mood, it was always just like that.......anyways, I found it amussing, & yes, I was dancing like a fool when they broke that song out after a nite of Led Zepplin & VH, total surprise, loved it.

Wow, Glen D. and me must have been seperated at birth! Clash, Coltrane, Aerosmith, yeah!
Jazz...love it. Favorites are Mingus, Coltrane, Blakey, Roach. Coltrane again. Trying to listen to Miles, but I could never find the way in...Kind of Blue might be the door.
Funk...I was always a sucker for the Ohio Players. P-Funk. Any of y'all ever listen to 80's DC go-go bands? Like Trouble Funk, EU, etc? Non-stop. JAMES BROWN.
Punk...yeah. Clash, Pistols, Germs, Black Flag, Misfits, Minor Threat, X, and my friends Neon Christ. I could list for hours.
How many of y'all are man enought to admit you listen to country? And I mean COUNTRY, not some slick, overproduced, wimpy-assed Nashville pop. Johnny Cash, George Jones, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Dale Watson, old Dwight Yoakum.
The questions...sorry, but I refuse to stick to one...
1) New Bands...Clash, Aerosmith, Motorhead, Ramones, Minutemen, Minor Threat, Butthole Surfers, eek, I don't listen to much new stuff anymore.
2) Old bands...Old Devo, Clash, Aerosmith, Motorhead, Stooges, Ramones, Doors, Hendrix, Allman Bros (with Duane), Elvis...
3) Desert Island album...Coltrane, A Love Supreme...I still get something different out of it every time I listen to it. I'll stick with one for this...
4) Greatest guitar player? Duane Allman. He was a natural...or at least made it look that way.
5) Worst crap ever....this could be a loooonnnnggg list...I'll try to stick with the worst offenders...Ace of Base. No Doubt (sorry, they suck and you know it...Gwen Stefani needs to go far away and never com,e back). Anything by Phil Collins or Lionel Ritchie...I don't wish either of them ill, I just wish the world could be arranged so I never have to hear or see them again. Eminem...silly white boy. (Q: what's something good you can say about Kid Rock? A: At least he's not Eminem!). I should stop...
6) I used to skate to Black Flag all the time. Nowadays I just skate to the sound of the wind. Maybe I should try some music...Motorhead, maybe some good cheesy Judas Priest, Black Sabbath...anything that makes you want to break stuff would probably be good.
