Slappy........kiss kiss. sorry, I like slappys postings, need a chuckle here & there lately myself.I do miss all the photos he used to post as well. He's also a person amoung others, that I look forward to seeing at the DC area "events" that I find my way to through the events page. Thats just my opinion though, I like the humourous posts, the informative posts, the event recaps,etc.....this picking & poking crap lately though seems to need a forum of its own. When theres a dispute of any kind that takes a personal nature, it could go to that forum (the "he said she said forum"). Personal emails would be cool to handle these things, but it seems some must post all the crap publicly to be happy. Just my thoughts, Blast me now. Jeff

Alan, High-tech equipment is not absolutely necessary to the enjoyment of slalom skating. I mean... I can take my standard, double-kick, wide truck, park board and set up a course that would be appropriate for it. The whole thing only becomes un-fun when you are racing against obviously superior equipment. Locally, I've set courses for the skatepark kids to take their park boards through, and in spite of the fact that they were riding nothing like "real" slalom equipment, they had a great time racing against each other on their reasonably matched equipment. In order to not overwhelmingly discourage them by zipping through this on my racing equipment, I raced on my park board. In fact, the ultra-hard modern wheels and stable truck geometry present a completely unique set of challenges, even to an experienced slalomer.
As for buying state-of-the-art equipment, to be competitive, may I suggest attending "The 3rd Gathering: Slalom, Slalom and more Slalom", in the Washington D.C. area in May. This event is a slalom festival and has developed a feel like an annual "Woodstock" for the slalom community. There is so much equipment there to be tested and experimented with, I have to imagine a significant amount of slalom purchases in the modern slalom-era were made as a result of a test drive at The Gathering. See the Contest Calendar page for more information.

I had a blast in the last 2 weeks slaloming .It is harder than it looks to go fast. Looking forward to skatelab (normal boards) I will be slow but I will try anything once. Do people use normal trucks and wood boards to run cones or do ya need the high tec stuff ? What kind of board should I get to run cones with ? I liked the wide turner that i tried. What’s up with the no kick tale thing I was just getting used to having 2 bent ends on my board and now I have none? Shut up and sk8!!!!!!!!!!! Alan

Posts promoting RUI (riding under the influence) Huh? I thought ncdsa.com was cool? What up?! Here's what's up: We're not here to tell you how to live your exciting lives, but realize that ncdsa.com is read by hundreds of kids and teens who don't need this role model. Nuf sed.
Slappy maybe you need to read the guidelines before you come talk about your drug problems here, This site does not allow the talk about Drugs, just for your info.
Happy to help Arab
Maybe if you need help with your drug problem you can contact a 12 step program, Good luck!

I'm a little late but... (and I am bending the rules to include top3 - sorry)
1.Rock (1980 to current): Replacements Please to meet me, Stones Roses Stone Roses, Clash London Calling
2.Classic Rock (pre 1980): Pink Floyd Animals, ELP Trilogy. Cheap Trick Heaven Tonight, Ramones Ramones..wait that's four.
3.Best Album/CD- My Bloody Valentine-Loveless
4.Greatest Guitar player ever: The Edge. Rick Nielsen. Johnny Ramone. I'm not kidding.
5.Worse song: Last Dance-Donna Summer, Always and Forever, Stayin Alive. Please kill me. Also the before mentioned "party band/wedding band" duo of Super Freak & Celebration.
6.Favorite skating CD/Tape; None really. The two don;t really co-exist for me. I love them both but I can't find a direct correlation.
And, touching on a few other comments:
Best Concert: U2 at Dooleys Bar in East Lansing Michigan on October tour $7, front row, 150 people.
Loudest Concert- My Bloody Valentine - the Palace Hollywood final show 92 tour
Worst Concert: Allan Holdsworth, HB - nearly put me in tears - horrible.
Latest Discovery: Bright Eyes-cross between the Violent Femmes and the Waterboys with some absolute life reflecting truth-telling going on.
Guilty Confession- I actually like Supertramp (even in the quitest moments) and Styx (Grand Illusion). But you guys are right, Toto sucked and always will.

Hey Slappy, I really like the look of those little pine tree air fresheners, but they stink to high heaven. "Air fresher" indeed. Did you or Liberace ever come up with a solution how you can put one in your car and get that swank "Repo Man" look without the ungodly smell?
Please advise, I think with one of these little trees hanging from my rearview mirror I stand much better chance of having a policeman ask me what's in my trunk. Just so I can answer, "Oh, you don't wanna look in there," of course.

Dear Penthouse Forum, The year was 1979 and I was working for Liberace. Before the shows started we would hang out backstage and discuss air fresheners and good footwear. Libby would always says, "Slappy, nothing is better than strolling down the frozen food aisle in Dr. Scholls".
We would spend hours at the Vons off the strip in Vegas just fondling the tater tots. Sometimes we would catch Wayne Newton in the 'adult diaper' aisle. Wayne said he didn't really have a problem, it was just too time consuming to use a toilet everytime he had to go.
After Liberace died, i did a short stint with Michael Flatley, Lord of the Dance. We would go out drinking and he would say, 'if yer at a skateboardin' site talk about bloody skateboardin' !!!.' I never listened to him. He was an ass.
Sometimes the frozen food aisles still call out to me. So I break out my sequined, diamond sport coat that Liberace gave me...

Oh what a christmas joy...
My daighter wakes up and eyes all her goodies not seeing the big one off to the side, behind the couch. She finally does and waits to all the little gifts are open before she tears into it.
The look on her face will be priceless....she got an electric guitar from Santa.
If anyone can trecommend a good beginners book on guitar playing, please let me know.
Now she`s checking out her new CD`s with Good Charlotte playing currently.
Is there a future for punk rock?????

I weasled my way onto the Summer '82 Clash/Burning Spear tour for two weeks and eight Clash shows. I peeled garlic and potatoes, washed dishes, pushed cases then stood in the wing every show giving the finger to Mick Jones anytime he glared at me. Strummer said to me "For f**** sake go to college mate, you're too young to get f***** up in this sh**** rock scene. And don't break your head on that f***ing skateboard!" I did go to college, I have not broken my head skateboarding (yet) but I will spend my whole life in the rock scene, always remembering the music and the artist comes first. Thanks for the advice Mr. Strummer.

I only got to see the Clash once. It was '82 they played with The Who. It was a great show. The audience didn't get them though. the crowd was a mix of bikers, heshers, mods, punks, and the general population filling the gaps. Get the Clash DVD Westway to the World, it tells their story really well. They were the best rock band of the 70's and 80's in my book. Lance Mountain gave me a collection of all the CD's in mp3 format, I've got them all on CD but it's so cool to set it to play back all songs in random order and let them run all day while I'm computer bound.

D@mn...just heard about Joe Strummer from an email from Joe Iacovelli. Totally sucks. The Clash were responsible for two of the best shows I have ever seen in my life...one of them being the 1982 show 66 was talking about (but I think it was 1983 myself...eh? Well, maybe late '82). Was that the one where Strummer sat on the stage apron and played a few bars of "In The Mood"?
Dead Kennedys at 688...I took picture that night. I though their show at the 'Plex a few years later was better. Really long, slow intro (about 10 minutes worth of jello talking while the band played a hymn)...then, 1.2.3.4 and it looked like someone threw a hand grenade into the pit.
The Varsity...man, I must have sat in the bathroom a dozen times my first year of college swearing to every deity known to man I would never eat there again. I always went back. It was the onion rings...the onion rings. Man, at any given moment I am so close to driving 600 miles for some onion rings it is sick. At one point in my life I ate there every day. Grilled cheese, rings and a large Coke, plus an ice cream cone. You'd get a dime back for your $3.00. Unless you got a take-out box, then they kept your dime. If you broke down my 220 lbs by what I ate to get there, it would be about 60 lbs Vasity, 60 lbs Pronti's pizza, 60 lbs Frito-Lay, and the last 40 various foods that may actually pass as healthy.
Arab, what bands were you with for shows at 688? I know I saw TSOL there several times, both with Jack and Joe singing. Saw the Vandals once, in fact one of my favorite pictures ever is one of Steve-O (OG Vandals singer) giving the finger...look up "punk rock" in the dictionary, that picture should be there. Heck, I'll post it tonight when I got a few more minutes. Did you ever tour with Social Distortion?
To keep it skate-related, yeah me and my friends skated to/at most of the shows in the early '80's. Skating in downtown Atlanta after shows at the Metroplex could get you killed...it's a wonder none of us got whacked back then.

Geez man....R.I.P. Joe....1978....Career Opportunities...."I hate the civil service rules, I'll never open letter bombs for you"....Ramonesish guitars with SERIOUS lyrics. What a combination! I knew, even at 16 y/o, this was the real deal....My bros thought it was crap....the battle lines were drawn....Who won?....If you fought, you won, regardless of the outcome.....Thanks for a lesson well taught Joe....
