Hi, we've got a problem down here in San Diego. Recently, a skatepark was constructed under the Pacific Highway overpass at Washington Street in San Diego, California. Apparently, the people who built it just did it (without permission sort of like Burnside in Portland). Now, before it is even completed there's talk of tearing it down, from the city government. I think their main concern is safety, as the site is in close proximity to two streets and a railroad track.
There will be a meeting tomorrow at 1:00 that may well decide the fate of this park. I urge everyone to write email to City Councilman and Deputy Mayor, Byron Wear
bbw@cd2.sannet.gov
urging him to support the Washington Street Skatepark before midday tomorrow. It may not make a difference, but maybe having fifty or sixty messages in his inbox in the morning may sway him. Be nice though, he is actually on our side. He has been instrumental in getting the Ocean Beach Skatepark pushed through, and the project should break ground next month and be completed in the fall.
Thanks a bunch,
Chris Sturhann www.nosewheelie.com

I want to thanx Cliff Colemann to brought us one of the best way for breaking on a longboard. Moreover I agree with eggman and tom, I hope longboard skateboarding will still be a friendship stuff, and meeting new people all around the world! I'm off to bed, then cruising down! see ya later all Colin.

I agree with Eggman's post. Fully. Completely. My problem is that I check this site everyday and I'm always wishing there was more activity! Please all longboarders who happened to be tied to their computers, drop me a line as I've got the mail working most of the day. Well said Eggman, and it's good that you took the time to post that . . . .

Ok, you all know that this page rocks. I mean it really does. For example there is a post from the Skategeezer himself that is so inspireing (man, I'm gonna cry!)Then, two posts later, you get one from the famous Beau Brown (read about him is "the concrete wave"). I mean where else and in what other sport do you get your regular joe (that's me!) interacting with LEGENDS (that's you) of their favorite sport? I have seen posts from many famous folks over these past few years I have been visiting this page. I mean would a Wane Gretzky post stuff to a hockey page, right under some kid who is just learning to iceskate? This is really rad! Ok, just wanted to keep the vibe! You people are the coolest!

Allright guys, here's the deal. It's 3:52 am here. I have been up since 10 pm typing the top 100 events in world history since prehistory. I'm on #80 right now. Anyways, I needed a break so I went to a search engine to see if my page showed up in the top 20 listings. It didn't show up in like the top 350. But anyways, the real point to this post is that I found this page www.hbdecks.com These things are bad!! For all of you guys that don't like pointy noses, don't go here! These are made to ride like a 9'2 on a big day at mavericks. Check out the 62". It's bad! Ok, I'm back to Mansa Musa's Pilgrimage to Mecca.

To whom it may concern, My name is Beau Brown and I am a downhill skateboard racer(speedboarder, whatever!). Some of you know me, many probably don't. I have been racing for many years in such races as Glendora Mountain Road, Laguna Seca, Le Jeux de la Pyrenees, Capitola & the X-Games. After 3 times of semi retirement, I have found that I need to keep racing! It looks as though sponsorship funds will allow me to race worldwide, so I am in search of a comprehensive schedule of any & all races for the remainder of 1999. Please help me out with whatever information you can. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Best Regards, Beau Brown

Hello All!
Can you feel it? Spring is here and as I enter my 24th year of riding a skateboard, I have never been more pumped up. This thing is on a roll and I predict that within 5 years, the skateboard industry will be turned upside down. I just returned from Vancouver where I had an opportunity to see the industry in full view (at the Transworld Conference)> I also had a chance to soak in the atmosphere at the Slam City Jam. One thing that I have learned in my 34 and half years on the planet, is that a few passionate people can affect a huge amount of change. The best example of this is Frank Nasworthy who had the passion to promote urethane wheels in the early 1970's. The situation now is different. Instead of one Frank Nasworthy, there are literally hundreds of crusaders out there ready to stake their life (if not their board!) on promoting the hell out of this sport. Bottom line gang is that I am FIRED UP and having a blast. We are the future, we are breathing new life into the sport of skateboarding and tthings are just starting. Think what will happen in the next 12 months...then the next 24....we are talking nuclear...so get out there and SKATE!
Best wishes to all for a successful spring, summer and fall

Edziak, sounded to me like you were putting down longboards...sorry for being a jerk.
Adam is correct though. In the 70's longboard were not the norm. They were pretty rare. I used to skate at most of the parks you now see historical pictures of, and almost nobody rode longboards. Sims was one of the only companies that actually made boards in the 36"-48" range at the time. As far as disco, all of the skateparks in the 70's played Led Zep, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, etc. over their PA systems. I remember Pipeline skatepark blasting Aerosmith's Draw the line album and the first Van Halen album on many occasions. Disco was not very popular and was even hated in much of the skater community. Punk rock came about, partly as a reaction to disco.
once again, I apologise publically to Edziak

But where does this Mike Oxard guy get the Idea to just casualy diss me like that? I'm sorry but I tend to get a little pissed when somebody I don't even know acts like a punk. Maybee calling him an idiot was harsh, but you can't blame me for getting mad.

pardon me I can't argue with a person who was there I'll try not to get too hostile, but I don't apreiciate being casulay dissed by somebody (Mike Oxard) who dosent even know me. I opologise for calling him an idiot, but oh well, he should be able to take it. I'll try to tone it down, but I won't make any promises.

Tom Sims used to ride a pretty big board didn't he? In the pictures I have seen of him (in the old Skateboarding mag.)he was always on a really long board. Besides him though, that is it! (oh yeah, and the Logan Brothers) I guess it is kinda like comparing "stayin alive" by the BeeGees to "stayin alive" by Wyclef. Same feel but the 90's version is better.

Edziak,
I suspect you weren't even born until the 1980s, so your ignorance is understandable. Take it from someone who was there-- longboards were never more than a footnote in the 1970s skating scene, despite people's misconception since they associate them with longboard surfing. Most boards in the 1970s were 24-27 inches long and 6 inches wide. The rare deck was 30+ but I never saw a deck anywhere near 48 inches. Today my local skate shop has 50+ different types of longboards and the owner says they are flying out of the shop faster then ever. Also, please keep your personal attacks on others off our site.

What the hell is wrong with you? Longboards will never be as big as they were in the 70's. I am one of only five longboarders in my city. You are an idot. How can you tell me longboarding is more popular now than it was in the seventies? hve you seen pictures of the old skate parks? No way. Longbording is bigger than ever my ass. That's why the local scate shop has four longboard decks. The only one they sold this year was to my boy namon, who is sitting next to me as I type.

hey, whats with this hostil posting? why all of a sudden this anti-edziak? hey has a point, disco and longboards do have something that you can link together, im not saying that disco is good, but dont run edziak's name through the mud for pointing out history.
