Becca--
sorry, also check out the online vendors like Solidskate or Bozi--you can see pics of boards and you can email/call them and explain what you'd like. They are all super nice folks and pretty good at recommending set-ups for various price ranges/terrains.

hey 'Becca,
It's hard to say what is a good deck, especially because I don't know how much you weigh, how long you've skated, what kind of skating (i.e.: pure carving, surf turns, etc.) Best thing to do is find a skateshop and check out some boards yourself to see what you'd like, if you're lucky enough to live near one that has a good longboard selection (i.e.: purple skunk in san fran). Barring that, I would say the Comet parktail soft or med flex with trackers or deadbolts and no skoolz is a pretty sweet and versatile set-up--flex and concave and kick. Landyachtz Chief and v-lam decks are also said to be pretty awesome, but they are a bit bigger--nice graphics, though.
I would try posting in the decks or completes forums, and running the search tool on whatever brand/deck/truck/wheel interests you.
Good luck. We need more women skaters, 'cause they rock!

hey, I am just learning to longboard, and I'm looking inot buying a deck. I'm looking for a good all-around board for carving and just riding around. I am 5'5". I'm looking for a moderate size board with about medium flex. Any suggestions? If you have any suggestions for trucks or wheels, that would also be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!

Gotwood, is only 1 person, I have sold well over 100 items to the guy, I have delt face to face with him on several occasions, sometimes he can be a real pain in the arse, it took 90 days to get paid on the last 20+ auctions he won from me, I have always been paid, but having to wait 90 days is ridicules.

I have both bought from and sold to gotwood and have always been paid and have always received the items that I paid for... no problems on or off ebay... and no, I won't tell anyone who gotwood is, so don't bother asking! HR

A friend of mine who sells on ebay all the time told me that "got wood" is a group of about 5 guys that pool their money to buy everything they can. That is why they seem to be able to afford everything. I think he also said they have a bidding program on their computer. This guy has sold things to them, so I think the info is accurate. But as was mentioned above, they can be beat as my other friend Norski who buys on ebay all the time have figured out a way.......

I just read the last 100 postings. I'm a little puzzled being new to this form of skateboarding and all. Is slalom all about racing? I have a lot of fun just skating and running cones with friends. I also enjoy quality late-nite entertainment with my cones, my stopwatch, and me, at my local parking garage. It's fun to race yourself. Sk8ing is all about fun. Fun, fun, fun. Repeat after me: sk8ing is fun. sk8ing is fun. sk8ing is fun. sk8ing is fun. sk8ing is fun.

Hey Mikey, Try H.K. University. You can find it almost anywhere. Show up everyday, early. You'll learn. Charge it. Always. No matter what. Enjoy the scenery and all that but never forget why you're there. It's not easy but nothing worthwhile ever is. And never pretend you've graduated because you never will.

George... I don't know that gotwood reads these boards...
He can be beat though! It's just tough to do... but if you try to do it early or with bigger dollars, you'll lose everytime! He's a great customer though... HR

I know it's off topic for the whole site but this looked like the forum where i might offend the least. I'm looking to make the cross from skate to surf and I've heard some cool things about west coast surf schools. Does anyone know a good one or at least a decent surf forum where i can launch this question? Thanks for any help

i don't have a copy of it, but.....
as a rising sophmore in college, i was subjected to something known as "the regents exam", a reading comprehension and creative writing excercise intended to placate those who dole out funds for public higher education in my state
for the creative writing segment, you are given a choice of 3 topics to choose from
i chose, "if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?"
the subject of my essay was the upland combi pool (this was 1983)
passion ensued and i soon graduated from the university, though i still skate the hills on campus occaisonally

With superficial I mean that every longboarder knows that and feels it but non-longboarders don't have a clue about it. Instead they will only see you as a kook. Try to get deeper into the subject.

Brian, to be honest that is a bit superficial. Writings like that are the reason why I stopped reading the soulcarving forum.

Tell me what you guys think, I think I'm going to submit this for a writing class.
Maybe I'm being stupid and should give skateboarding up. Everybody is telling me I should, cause I'm too old and skateboarding is for kids, and I broke my femur skateboarding, and its too dangerous. But I can't give it up, I love it! Skateboarding has given me some of the best times of my life, and allowed me to meet some really great people. Maybe I'll never be a big pro, and I'll just be known as the kid who broke his leg at the RedBull race, but I'll still have fun doing it, weather its at a race, or just rolling around a parking lot. Nothing else can give me that awesome feeling of soul-carving a newly paved road, or pulling off a new trick on my longboard, or setting a really hard slalom course and flying through clean. Every skater knows that feeling, and tries to match or better that feeling of acomplishment with every session, but still nothing could match just rolling on four wheels.

Hey Glen- My experiance has been way different, I sold some slalom footage last year and got $2000.00 for it, They asked me why the check was to be made out to Eric Groff and not Glen Darcey whos name was on the package.
I explained that Glen Darcey is my AKA.
I'm still getting residuals from that to, But Glen Darcey did get the credit.

One other thing. I went to their website. It looks like they want stuff from high school kids. Is she aware that we are all old bastards?
Jennifer -- you have to a site where the average age is really well about 30 -- maybe above 40.

Whenever I see skating on television I have a really mixed reaction. First, it's cool to see skating on television. But second, it never really looks much like the experience I have when I go out skating. It usually looks a lot slicker and has the crazy "aggro" music -- all part of the extreme thing, I guess.
