From the webmaster..
Who voted? As promised you can now get an idea of who submitted which Rate This Post votes after June 14, 2004. The "Who Voted?" link at the bottom of the Rate This Post box pops a window with the goods.
Note that the Ncdsa.com server does not require member logins, so not every IP address can be associated to a screen name. Nor should you assume that IP addresses are exclusive to one person, as IPSs like AOL and others serve dynamic IP addresses, and it's a small enough world that different Ncdsa.com members are sometimes served the same static IP from AOL at al.
Still, this feature reveals certain members who consistently post with anonymous names, as well as members who are abusing the Rate This Post system.
In addition to this feature we recently implemented other behind-the-scenes methods of detecting and preventing abuse of the Abuse button, so I think you'll see more utility and less abuse going forwards.

Right right, I'm going to get to the point. Does anybody out there know when the next longboard race in New York is? I went to the broadway bomb two years ago and it kicked ass. All the info about it on this site says it's going to happen, people are registered, people are excited... but also that it's going to take place in 2002 (for those of you who a bit behind on the times, it's 2004). Now this doesn't fit my scedual too well seeing as I lack the ability to go back in time. Does anybody know what's going on?

if you are specing bearing noise response for the millitary, my guess is that you will need to do the measurements in an anechoic chamber. try contacting your nearest acoustics institute for advice. obviously any and all background noise will affect the readings and deviate them. a noiseless room is a 'control' space'. or i could be talking out of my hat....

What type of microphone are you using? What type of frequency response does it have? Sounds like a sound proof room would help. Couple things to consider, mic placement just a little turn or movement in placement will change all your readings. Try using some Music software programs to make your measurements ( they can give you more than just Db and DBmv?, DBv, and can be much more accurate, depending on your oscilloscope)what are you using to spin the bearings with, is it sound proof?. Good luck

I am testing the sound level that the bearings make while spinning... in both voltage and db level (yes, I know that dbmv is a voltage), using a powered directional mic and an oscilloscope.
This set up is capable of reading very small sounds. So small, that the back ground noise in my house is too loud (I'll have to do the tests when everyone is asleep and I can turn off the pumps to the fish and turtle tanks)
From some research that I have done, it appears as if these types of readings are important to purchasers of high quality bearings (military, space programs, etc) It's unknown to me if there is a coralation between the sounds of the bearings and their speed down hills.
When all is said and done, a graph can be made that shows the results of the treadmill test, spin tests, sound test, and downhill skating speed tests.
Analysis of this data may show a connection between them all and answer a few questions:
Is a quiet bearing faster than a noisey one?
Is a bearing that spins a long time (according to the weighted spin tests) a faster bearing than one that didn't spin as long?
Is a bearing that had a lower weighted score (on the treadmill test) faster than one that had a higer rolling resistance reading?
Or not? Will the tests prove anything? Will the best performers in the "garage lab" tests be the fastest down the hill? Stay tuned! HR

Thanks for the plug Woody!
There is a rumor (from several different angles) that sound tests are one of the criteria that the "real" labs use to rate their bearings.
So, yes... I am really going to test their sound! HR

He grouch Check out the gravity boys if your not sure about doing trixs on a longboard. The most important think you can buy when prucasing a long board are the trucks, get some Randell 180 you wont be sorry. They make longboards turn like small boards and they are supper stable! at high speeds. Long boards are great for cruzing around town; get some big soft wheals they will go over most any thing like rocks screws nuts bolts sticks ect.. and some good bearings! Bearings don’t mean $%#^ check out bearing wars these guys have to much time on there hands! they mean well ,Especially Hugh R It is a good place to price bearings. (there’s a plug Hugh R Are you really going to do a sound test on bearings?)Anyways go out and get a longboard and bomb it. It will be the best thing you ever did! oya buy some safty gear if you really wont to go fast EW

Hey guys, I used to skate board but I ended up getting tired of it quite quickly. However I have always loved the feel of speed down the street on a skateboard. I am wondering what the pros to a longboard are compared to a regular skateboard and if there is anything I should know before I go and purchase a longboard for crusing purposes. I have heard you cannot perform any tricks and I am wondering if it is practical to own a longboard for a method of transportation on city terrian because of all the sidewalks and other obstacles would it be to hard to move around? Thanks for your help
