INTERNATIONAL LONGBOARDER is the BOMB! Submit your scene reports and photos to Michael and Tom. It was the coolest feeling in the world to open my copy today and see my picture in the magazine. What a rush. Good job guys. I'm glad to see you made it happen, more material is on the way. dem

Hey Gunner, I checked out www.dirtsurf.com . It's a cool site, but all the photos are on grass. How does the board handle on dirt? Are you going to the nationals at Boreal? Check out my web site WWW.DIRTHEADS.COM and let me know what you think? Don

Laddie, The 52 isnt that bad of a board at all. In fact its preaty damn good. If you want to buy one, I think that you can buy them off of thier site (www.tahoelongboards.com)YOu can ride the board stock, but many people prefer the RLII's. Personly I ride all my longboard's stock, though a few of my friends have the RlII's. It is all a matter of personal taste. One of the reasons that you may not see any Wintersticks on the slopes is because most of them are sold for backcountry boards, and that is primeraly where you see them, though they have a freestyle board, and some other freeride boards. They have yet to catch on with the riders. The idea with a small snowboard is not a bad idea. I have a sim's 52 set up with Off road wheels. This I have set up with Burton's little kid bindings (the one and a half strap ones) You can buckle your feet into them with out boots, just your normal shoes. I also have a Burton Swallow tail 51 set up with off road wheels as well. (its an old 84 or something) Both have a lot of flex, but the Sim's is newer so it has alot more flex. I have a small (44) Avalanch laying around somewhere, and if I can find it, I will try that out with normal longboard wheels, see how that rides. IN short, snowboard's make fun longboard's, and with bindings, they make really nice mountain board's. (we get board grinds off logs and things like that) And when I ride the swallow tail around town, I get alot of really funny looks :) Thanks for your time *namon*

Namon- I've decided to go with the 52" Tahoe. Have you ridden one? Do you think it's a good pick? The 62" just seemed like it would be way too big for my first board. Do you know of a good place to buy them for a good deal? No one in the Spokane area sells them. And should I buy a stock one or do you think a different setup would be better? It seems like everyone raves about RII's, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra expense to change over. I've also looked at Winterstick boards. A couple shops here in town sell them, and they're real sharp decks. I've wanted to try one for quite a while. I've never seen one on the mountain, though. Not sure why. We have 3 or 4 hills over 2,000 vert within 3 hours of town, so I think they'd be a good pick. And speaking of snowboards, I've been wondering what would happen if you took a short deck (like a 120 cm kid's size) and used that as a longboard deck. Would it be too flexy? This is probably a stupid question. Just wondering.

Martin, you ride a severe 163?? I have allways wanted one of those, but you cant find them very easely where I live with out ordering them, and that gets rather pricey. How do yo ulike it, I have ridden the swallowtail 82 I think. And it rides really well. I like winterstick alot, they make nice boards. What kind of bindings do you run on that 63? I heard that its a heavy board, is that true? Sorry again for bringing up the snowboard thing. Yet I just cant help myself. How do you like the La Madre 57 longboard? I know that asking you is kinda wierd (seeing as you make them) But how is it really? Is it a good size? I was looking into a bigger board, something like a 60+. And I see that you guys make them, on your page. I never got around to seeing what kind of cunstruction you guys use. Thanks. *Namon*

Motherlode Longboards is in Logan, UT where the snow is amazing and backcountry is endless. We build a variety of longboard skateboards and do a lot of custom work. Our longer stuff (>56") is vert grain/ vert laminate/ fiberglass. I find them to be as close to snowboard carving as you can get on asphalt. At those lengths our construction technique really stands out over standard ply type lamination- they are much more lively and responsive. In the winter I ride a Winterstick Severe Terrain 163 in the deep powder and the groomed stuff. I ride a La Madre 57" longboard on the mountain pass roads in the summer. With Randall RII's and centered hub and 72mm 82a wheels, the setup works really well for drawing out long carves as well as tight corners, and keeps one in top shape for the snow. Cheers, Martin motherlodelongboard s.com

LADDIE I dont want to turn this into a snowboard post board but... MADDRIDER has a point with the boards (snow) There are a few well made carving boards. You might want to look at HOT they have nice boards, there the only other non burton race boards that I have had first hand experiance with, so I will not give you any advice on other makers. If you want to stay with burton, look at thier carving boards, the AMP is a nice board for freecarve. If you dont want to get rid of your Custom, but want more control with out a hard boot, then look into the custom freeride bindings, and viking boots. It is the stiffist soft plate binding combo out there (my views, dont burn me on this one guys.) Dont mean to drop it on the skater forum, but its close to winter anyway, so I can preach the snowboard anyway with out feeling to bad about it. :) thanks for your time.

Laddie, If you like carving the corduroy, then try an alpine board or race board with plates. You could even throw a pair of soft flexig plates on your super Model. Or if you want to up your skills just get anothe board that isnt a Burton. For a skateboard I would suggest A Turner Summer Ski.Either a slolam deck or just a plain cruiser. And yes they are still being made. And they will simulate the carving feeling you are looking for.

Laddie, if you ride a Burton 68, and your looking for something that will mimic it, i would suggest that you go for something like the Tahoe 62. I ride a Burton 68 as well, and the 62 tahoe is a board that will make you feel right at home. Email me if you have any questions. Also, dont buy anything under a 5o, becasue your looking at a different feel then your burton with that size.
peace out, namon.

Laddie (Goober) I have yet to snowboard, but i do love to carve on hills and sidewalks. My 2 cents >> Decks: I'd go with a 48" to 62" deck. Flex is personal thing, I like my G&S 44" Fibreflex Pintail alot, really smooth, and fun to push into turns. I also love my Tahoe "tallac" 62", STIFF (slight flex), very surfy. Trucks: Exkates or Randal RIIs. Period. Wheels: Depends on if you like to slide or not, and you may not know yet. Bigger = Faster, Softer = traction.

I'm a snowboarder who stinks at doing tricks, but loves carving the groomers and bombing the steeps. I'm 6'1", 165 lbs, and I'm looking for a longboard setup that is good for cruisin' and carving on sidewalks and asphalt. Can anyone give me any help? I'm not sure what brand to get, or what length, flex, trucks, shape, etc. Simplyfly.com has links to a ton of different companies, and they all look cool. I don't want to buy on looks, though; I want to get a quality board that rides like my Burton 68 Supermodel snowboard. Since I've never had a longboard before, my Burton is the only reference point I have. Everybody who posts on this site seems to be helpful and willing to give advice to goobers like me with no clue. Thanks for any help.
