I've never heard of J Gilmore but the guy has to be on my list of champions for giving those wheels to the Europeans. I'm still looking forward to meeting the French, Swiss, Brazilian and any other skaters from any area. John, thanks for spreading the good will of the sport.

beau brown, Does John Gilmour rank in your list of champions? The one who gave away some wheels to some european freinds at a downhill race a few years back.

P.S. regarding Hutson - he was also the originator or the "Hut-tuck" which is the head forward/arms back stance (fairing). Until then, most guys held their hands forward to cut through the air. Hutson's success with the tuck changed speedboarding/racing.

Thanks for the speed champ answer. So- next- is there a series of downhill speed events that are held on a regular basis? Are there any yearly downhill speed events? Did there used to be but not anymore? I checked "Dr Gofast's" site and it has not been updated for about 2 years. I have spent around 10 hours on the web looking for information on downhill skateboard speed related topics and have found not much as far as a central site. How fast do top riders go? 50+ mph? 60+ mph? 70+ mph? The NCDSA site has little offer for the gear, speed or techniques of downhill speed skateboarding, and Longboard lounge members don't seem super interested. Downhill speed longboarders, a new yahoo club, may have info if people join and contribute. If anyone out there is interested in this, check it out and hear what others around the globe are doing for speed.

WheelDirt- For many years John Hutson was the World Speedboard Champ because he set a world record at a recognized, sanctioned, fair, witnessed, event(Signal Hill) and the information was submitted to Guiness' Book of World Records where the information was verified. John held that record until it was broken by Roger Hickey(sorry Rog, but can't remember the year), again at a recognized, sanctioned, verifiable event. Roger still officially holds the record, although right now there are 3 or 4 people who claim different. For proof, look in Guiness! John Hutson did win pretty much every race back in the day till Roger came up, and even when John came out of retirement a couple of years ago was waxing everybody again(including me!). Most people who know anything of the history of the sport will agree that John Hutson will ALWAYS be the champ!

Seth, What kind of collector old school board do you have? What condition is it in? Check out WWW.DIRTHEADS.COM for the new TerraBoard FL117! The board works great on downhill, streetstyle, dirt, grass,Big Air, ect.... I have an old SchmidtStix Yardstick deck and some Indy 215's. Don

Namon- Sorry....I went and checked with them to see what they had. The ads in the paper said they had lots of Wintersticks, but when I got there to check them out the owner said that they had only sold 1 Winterstick all year so they shipped the rest back to the manufacturer. Again, sorry. They did have some K2 eldos (163, 169, 172) for $239 and some Burton super- models for I think $250 or $300. I wish I coulda found you a Winterstick, though. My bad.

The Science and Art of Skateboard Design
Ever wondered how Skateboards are designed? How Trucks are cast? The technology behind the Urethane wheel?
I found this great site called the Exploratorium that has a whole section on how skateboards are made. It has Realaudio videos showing trucks being cast, wheels and decks and their construction. Keep clicking on the 'frontside' icon at the foot of each page to visit the full history of Skateboard equipment.

Namon- I remember you writing that you were kinda sorta looking for a Winterstick board. Just wanted to let you know that a big shop here in Spokane is selling all their '98 Wintersticks for 40% off. If you want me to check what models and lengths they have I'd be happy to do it.

Get the Yahoo Messenger Beta!
You get to associate a real name with the Yahoo id's, which mean that when I see MacOg_beag log on I really know it's "Chip from Utah" and no longer do I forget that "longboard_skater" is "Tyler". (never did really Tyler, honestly)
A thing of beauty.
