This is my first crash in 1 year, so i can post here (woohoo)

I was at the local longboard spot with a friend and a longboarder from this board. We had been hiting this sweet hill (It was 2 cars wide, and SMOOTH) for about 2 hours, going at about 20mph each time. I decided it was about time to go home, so hiked up for the last time. At the middle of the run (where it flattend off) there were two people and a couple of dogs, just standing there facing downwads, i decided to slow down, so down went the foot to footbreak. I must have hit a stone or somthing, coz the board started to wobble like hell, and the next thing i know, i am on the floor. Dont know how i fell, but wiped some blood of my hands, and went off again. At the end, i fell over in agony, and could not lift my left arm.

After some Xrays in casualty, i now know that i have broken my left colar bone and have chipped my right shoulder :(

Another fun day :D

Josh

air braking is making yourself as un-aerodynamic as possible, ie standing up with shoulders square with the hill, therefore slowing you down

It could have been nasty but it turned out ok.There,s this hill near where i live its about 1km long and you can get up around 60-70km speed on it .I was riding alone and i was following a car which was about 100mts away.He starts hitt,n his brake lights and i think he is slowing down to check me out coming up behind but instead he puts on the flasher and stops. He is stoped in the middle of the road and waiting for the oncomming ambulance to go bye until he does his turn so i have 2 choices i can go on the inside of him which is full of broken road and potholes or attempt the fastest coleman ive ever done(the incident happened on the fastest part of the hill)so i went the slide option and did it but i didnt stay on the road that long and when i left the road i hit this guys rubbish on his front lawn and all i could remember was this tray and some containers go flying out like a bomb had just been placed under them.It was heavy but pretty funny.I didnt get hurt because my pads and slide gloves saved me.And a puck was ripped off as well. When the ambo went past they didnt even give me a slow down and say r u ok.My rist was hurt,n now its mooved up to the elbow.

Me and my friend always scope hills in Woodland Hills. So this one day, we were bombing some of the regular hills and we decided to find a new, bigger hill. we did. We found Del Moreno St. THis street is about a mile long and is one of the steepest things i ever saw. It had brand new asphalt too. We couldn't resist. So we did it 3 times in 1 day. WHOA. Then we went back the weekend after that, and we started off good, then my friend clipped his foot on his back wheel. He rolled. I had to dodge him going way too fast. I ate it. then my board rolled all the way down the hill. But it was still the most bitchen hill i've ever bombed.

My board was Sector nine Orginal Pintail wit randal2 and S9) red wheels. Lot of GUL stickers backside of the board.

Yo, just burned and crashed myself, yesterday. First of all I got a rock under my wheel at a lowish speed and I pretty much just looked like a dick rolling onto my back with only a grazed forearm. Then I carried on cursing my carelessness and got up some speed. I was cruising through safewayz car park in stratford London and I did what I do every day, ride my board over those things that stop cars from coing the other way. Every time I've just rode over it for about a year and it waited till yesterday to kill me =P

board stopped, I did a frontside superman and hit the ground about 6-7ft away witht the whole front side of my body. My right knee dont bend proper got minor cuts on left forearm, medium road damage tto the right, got a small graze under my beard and a bruised rib =) Hows that for all inclusive.

I rode over the same place today to prove to myself it was a freak occurance =)

I was bombing this decent hill in my neighboorhood. I was filming me and my friend bombing it. I was getting to much speed and i didnt want to crash and ruin my camera. I tried to slow down because the hill leads into and busy street. I tried to stop and it didnt work. I flew forward and did a frontflip and rolled down the hill. I got a big brush burn on my shoulders and some cuts and scraps on my knees and elbows. The camera somewhat broken. I'll still love bombing hills no matter what.

Do we accept park crashes too?

It was one of those "ok, one last run and then I'm out of here" moments. The session was a bit boring and I was trying to fix it by blasting through the pool as fast as possible. My favourite line contains a frontside carve grind in one of the fastest corners and I was doing it like I always do. This time, however, I propably had more speed than ever before. The grind started late and went out of the corner on to the straight wall. Rear wheels hung up on the coping as I started to come down and I plummeted straight to the floor. I did not anticipate the fall at all and all my weight came on my front wrist. That, of course, didn't stop me. My arm bent backwards as I kept on falling. I hit my shoulder to the ground, somehow rotated 180 and hit my tail bone too.

I think I was lucky to walk away with a broken wrist only. Wearing knee, elbow, wrist and brain pads saved me from road rash.

fell off my buttboard two days ago now. landed square on my arse and bounced a bit. pants held up hurt, but not too bad got home had a shower and realised the massive bruise and as my kind caring friends at school put it (when i explained why i was taking so long to sit down and the extent of the injuries including a nicely placed and painful cut) i got a crack extension. bugger! lucky it wasnt the week before because that was the weekend of the gay and lesbian mardi gra in sydney and my friends would have got some strange ideas as to why i have a sore arse.

So I show up at a slalom practice, hop out of the car, and take a leisurely pas down the course to see where it goes. Hit melting snow stream across course, backend comes around, rash on knee, calf, arm, hand. Wrist and hand hurt like a wicked bastard. Don't ever assume theres no obstacles unless you pre-ride the course first. And, ride no faster without pads than you're willing to stop from using your skin for a brake.
Padded up from now on.

i have too agree that pads dont stop all injuries. if you fall off going fast it's likely you'll hurt yourself. my most serious injuries would not have been stopped by protective pads. i had a concussion while waring a skate helmet (you dont ware a full face helmet carving) muscle damage in both hands through slide gloves. muscle damage up both forearms while wearing slide gloves and some other minor stuff but if i could afford pads it would save me countless grazes.

Know exactly what you mean snoball...

Had all my gear on for a park session on cold winter day in February, a couple of months before Morro Bay '01, when I took a small tumble...

Deck landed on its side and I wound up on top of it; right smack in the ribs (I can still hear/feel that cracking sound). The muscle swole up around my chest and it didn't bother me till a week or two later, but it wasn't too bad as it only hurt when I tried to breath.

Here's an injury that no kind of pads could protect me from.

I didn't actually ever fall off my feet and at the time
it happened, though it crossed my eyes for a second, I didn't
think much of it.

Coming off a bank I lost my balance and stepped off with my
rear foot. The other foot still on the board but faithfully following along. Eventually. My knee locked and I stiff legged my femur into my hip socket. I kept skating but slowly
this pain grew. I still blew it off, I mean..you know.
But on the drive home I could not find a comftorable position for my leg at all.Anyway, over a 24 hour period it went from
a low whine to full on screaming at me. No sleeping, not
a comftorable position on the planet.

Looks like I tore some cartiledge in the hip joint. Nice huh?
No skating for a while till it heals and while I'm not
saying you shouldn't wear pads ( please don't read crap
like that into my posts ) I am saying that not all injuries
are what they seem or can be avoided by wearing pads.

But uh, wear your gear ;-)

Last summer I had my final 2 lessons in wearing pads, 1st there was the fridays eveing, drinks(and other naughty's) at a friends followed by my usual sk8 home (I have sk8ed it 100's of times) this time was a little different though, halfway down a very shallow hill, my board hit something (still not sure what) my board stopped dead, and so did I after I had slid on concrete for about 50feet, the next day I decided to go sk8ing (back on the horse and all that!) I ws carving a pretty big hill, trying to keep speed off all the way down by doing mini slides, halfway down I lost concentration for a split second (I thought I'd seen vehicular activity) and that was it, I went for another 50 foot power slide using the rightn side of my body as a brake!! It took me 3 weeks before I was able to sk8 proply again, if I had been wearing wrist or knee pads so I had a place to fall onto I would not have missed the best sk8ing weather of last year (in the U.k we only get a couple of weeks of non rain!) I hate putting on full padding but I now neaver sk8 without at least wrists and most of the time knee's even for those sk8's I know like the back of my hand!

Peace and good riding

i keep reading all these stories about people loosing controll, deciding to bail, and eating it cause you just cant run that fast. i know ive done it myself but than i realized somthing i knew all along and you probly do to. if you going down a hill and you sit on your ass you dont get hurt that bad (kinda like siting down when your sking). i realized this one night when i was skating 21jump street in Santa Monica Ca and i lost it at the bottom going lord knows how fast. 21 jump street has a sick drop about 1/4 of the way through and when i hit it my wheels left the ground, it was great. befor i could say "oh S**t" i was at the end of street and needed to stop so i tryed to put my foot down (there was no room to air break i had to stop befor i hit oncoming trafic) but when i tryed my board (my friends board actualy i thought my board was too loose for the hill) drifted out from under me and left me flying through the air with all the time in the world to think about where i was. the only thing to do was sit down so i did right on my wallet and i dident get a scratch. so now when i know im going to crash, i just take a seat on my ...

Oh yea once I was over my friend derek's house and I was bombing this nice sized hill with my randal trucks. I was going so fast....I told himt that I was going to go as fast as I could i did not airbrake at all! It was fall and guess what? there was a cruched pepsi can at the bottom with some leaves covering it. I tried to get it inbetween my wheels on my trucks since i spotted it too late to turn. but it caught and WHAM! I stopped immediately and i flew forward and bashed my hip. Worst pain i ever felt.

This past sunday I rocked the pavement hard. I'd been in San luis Obispo for the weekend and found a lone sick phatty hill. I took my sector nine supercruiser with some friends watching, sped down the hill. About halfway down I got really bad speed wobble. In trying to compensate the lack of stability, the board threw me off and I managed to land upright running with the board. Unfortunatly you cant run at 35 mph so in the blind hope for something to save me, I crashed decently hard. I broke my toe, sprained my ankle, and took all the skin off my hands, knees, and feet (I look somewhat like a mummy, and walk something like frankenstein). All in all, it wasn't my hardest crash, however I wish i was wearing pads at the time.
WEAR PADS and HELMETS!!!

While slaloming though an arrythmia of cones this am. I HIT a cone dead straight. It became wedged in between my trucks. Next then I know I am flying through the air, hit the ground and perform 2 barrel role flips. Lucky for me I was wearing full protective gear. Believe me at 42 years of age you dont get up as quickly from a fall. As for the makeshift WalMart cones I was using they are history. Here is hoping the cones I ordered from Turner Down Hill arrive this week. Time to soak in the tub. Eddy Martinez,Harlingen,Texas

Well it's about time I got back to this site to see if anybody read my post.
Yea... every once in a while there's someone who takes my words to heart and go railing. I'm not critizing anyone for not wearing protective gear nor brag about a crash. And you are right about this site is for us to "tell stories around the camp fire". It's just that I hope that from that crash you have experienced or read about that hopefully you learned to "minimize" or prevent the injuries. I would rather be skating than laid up in a hospital or crutches due to my "I don't give a F" atttitude when it comes to safety.
Just something to think about... if you still have brain cells after not wearing a helmet.

Peace.
