I'm a 14 year old morron who went down the steepest street in my town. Its called Esbe. I got killed. its a 70 degree drop with a 100 degree turn, a hundred yards or 120 overall. Some of my friends were there, they were scared s#@!less. I busted up my left knee, left shoulder, right hand, left elbow, and a concussion. I had burns on my left shoulder cause I sciped twice off the ground. I had a crooked blank deck before I went down so nomatter what I was screwed.

This summer I was riding that nice hill in the "parc de la gatineau" (Quebec) near my house, it's about 2.7 km and its always closed weekends and only bikes can ride it. So we went there at about 9am (me and one of my buddy) to ride our new cloud9 sector9 boards!
We had them for about 3 weeks... and we were riding for about 3 weeks ;) The hill was so steep that we didnt even had the chance to stop (or go off our boards) so we were there... "downhilling" the bad @ss hill (wearing just an helmet) with LOTS of bikes around us. ...and no... I didnt crash! but we were so damn scarded.
We went to my buddy's house near the hill, and went riding downtown Ottawa :D!!! We arrived at the lock (the big pools going down the river to let the boat go down) and there was that awesome walking path! so i went down 1st. It was so nice (and ppl were watching us!) so I crouch on my board and the board went wabbling like crazy.. the next thing i knew.. i was still in the same crouch position but with no board under my feet... At the same time my buddy was right behind me so he jumped off his board and start running... (and theres the funny part) his board did all the hill (hitting NO ONE!) and ... in the lock. We even saw the board sinking in the water!
He was so pist off! but the amazing ppl at the lock went in and recovered the board 10 min after!
And I finaly watch my bruses! My left leg was burn and I had some problem moving my fingers... but Im completly healed and still riding at the lock!!!

1st, you guys rock here and I just love your post, it takes me back to the good old days!Had a crash in my last race in San Fran. the funny thing is that i never made it tru the 1st turn. I was testing a steel skateboard that was 8 lbs heaver then my board.It was time trails ,I decided i could out kick all the other riders , so I kicked all the way to the 1st turn.Your right, kicked way to many times and came off the board, THANK GOD FOR LEATHERS!@ I must have slide 50 feet.I could here from the walkey talkey, is kludy OK can he go on?And then I heard, its kludy he will get up! I did and kicked ass the last part of the hill.Just killed my time trails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO HURT, WHY? FULL LEATHERS, SLIDE GLOVES AND A GREAT LID!~
You guys learn toward them and lots of fun will come your way. I got to go to work on monday!

I had borrowed my friend's sector 9 (really old, not sure what it is) for about a month and decided i'd give it back last sunday. So on saturday I had to go hit up my brother's high school (paved like a WEEK ago) that has some good hills. So i went out there and was kind of dissappointed until i went deep in this neighborhood. I was just cruising some, getting up speed until I found this paved ditch. So i got up the nerve to get in this thing and carve in and out for at least 150 yards. It was awesome. But this isn't where I crashed, no. I took one last ride down a SMALL hill to get back, was taking a backside turn and bent down to grab the frontside rail when i noticed all the gravel on the road that had been stirred up by this huge truck. it was too late to do anything, i was too far from the ditch to bail into grass, and even if i wasn't, i didn't have time. i just gritted my teeth and rolled all the way to the other side of the road. Ended up with lots of skin missing from my hands, right elbow, knee and foot. Have a huge rasberry on my right hip/thigh and look like a bear attacked my back. But i got back on the next day and convinced my friend to let me keep the board until i get my own.

One day I decided to take my first longboard off the rack and go for a ride (sector 9 pintail). I started out on one of my favorite hills about a 1 1/4 mle long, and very steep witha 90 degree turn in the middle to the right (backside). I start off carving my ass off to stay under control for the turn when I hit a slick spot on the road while ripping a backside slide. I immediatley get shot downhill, backwards, head first. I hit hard, first my elbow, then my head. I was never knocked uncon. but I did spend a 2 nights in the hospital for a head injury. I lost my sense of smell for about a year after that and it is still not the same. I was very lucky and a week later was back at it, with a helmet (and stickier wheels).

nosewalker arrives. randals and shogo soft pours on the way, due the following week. can't wait. bolt on some sixtracks and red avalons. sixtracks are very turny, outfitted with yellow stims and blue bones hardcores. very low profile and wheel bite is a danger, but I'm aware of this and keep it in mind. bomb some hills and get in some great carves. amazed at what a nice carver this is. do two miles on the bike path, darting in and out of wide-eyed cyclists, runners, walkers. the run is almost over, wind-down time. cruising the flats at approx 10mph, decide to walk out on the nose. lose balance momentarily as I get out on the nose, jam right foot down hard on right side of nose, deck bites right wheel, I'm soaring, my red cape is fluttering in the breeze. first the hands hit, then the right shoulder, then right elbow compresses into ribs, then right knee drags. I can hear myself as I hit the ground, "f*%#, oooooofffffffffffffffffffff". injury tally: raspberries on both palms, huge bruise/raspberry on right shoulder, bruised ribs, scraped right knee, major soreness. Much embarrassment when two passing motorists ask: "you OK?" as I look up, dazed, and state as boldly as possible, "yeah, I'm FINE." Lesson learned: don't ride a new rig with temporary setup that screams WHEEL BITE. Thankful for the helmet. The right side of my melon grazed the street. coulda been worse.

Got my new Big Red X two days ago, its labor day weekend, ihave two restaurants to run. I knew i should not ride until after the busy weekend. Couldnt help just taking it up the block for a quick run, (or maybe up the bigger hill?) I didnt pad up because was just going up the block (barely a hill). Well I had to try the bigger hill,You know the rest of the story... That board gets going really fast, really fast. Tried for a simple bail out on to a grassy shoulder, stopped dead , got launched and supermanned on the dirt and hard grass.Nice raspberry hip and skinned arm and elbow- WAKEUPCALL if that was cement i'd be toast.The day before I was reading aloud to my kids from the curt kimball interview in concrete wave,"rule #2 always wear your Pads" Any one else riding a Big Red X?

Yeah, ha, I was with Mark when he lost that board in the sewer. On the same day, I'd been riding that hill early morning before school, and my friend was letting me skitch her Land Rover back uphill, which was working great until she decided to be funny and punch it up to 45 mph. I wasn't expecting that, at all, so I lost my board and was still holding on to her spare tire. I couldn't run to slow myself down, so I tried to jump on the bumber, but only got one foot up, and my other dragged, hurt my toes like mad, but I got back on the board. Skitching owns, who cares if it's dangerous, everything's dangerous and you won't have fun if you don't take risks.

ok, so this was about my fourth or fifth time riding a longboard, so i wasn't exactly a pro at this quite yet. anyways, i was goin down this sweet hill that a lot of really good longboarders at my school do, and i was workin my way up to the top. first, i was only doing like half the hill, and then decided to go for the whole thing. well, that was a big mistake. i was going down the hill, straight as an arrow becasue i can't really turn too well, when i made an attempt to turn because i was jsut going way too crazy fast. once i got one turn off, i saw fat curb ahead (which only lead to lots of broken pavement, so i tried to jump off and start running. my speed was highly deceptive, becasue i was sure it would work. i was wrong, and after about 2 steps, i went into a roll and ripped like all the skin off of my right elbow and got sum huge bruises on my right knee, right ass, and hurt both my hands and calves minorly. also, once i fell, th board went rolling into the sewer. thankfully, a friend was small enough to get it out, but all around, this sport is pretty hardcore.

It rained all morning today. I recieved a call this afternoon from a friend who knows I slalom,he found a new neighborhood with virgin asphalt and a nice hill. Ten minutes later I have lined 50 cones 5ft 7inches apart. Had to hurry because the sun is going down. First run 15 seconds. AWESOME. Pretty soon some joggers,bikers and a couple of kickflippers have gathered to watch. They are cheering after each run. My last run I am pumping hard looking ahead of the course. 12 SECOND run. I looked up the hill all the cones were standing. I turned to foot brake,much to my horror. I had veared to close to the muddy curb. Next thing I know my 43yr old brain tells my cat like movements to jump off my Pocket Pistol. And I immediately begin to do the patented OOOOHHHH flapping my arms in the air which proceeds with ass/back slide about 12 feet down the muddy curb. I laid there in the mud for a while making sure nothing was broken. You know mud actually numbs the pain of road rash. Rene Carasco you were right allways wear your protective gear guys. bout a month and a half ago i went to my first race. GMR i didwent race but i skated the hill behind the pack. i fell 2 times on the way down that butifull hill the first time was nothing big some one fell infront of me and i was too close behind to make it around so i steped off my board, i was going way to fast to run out of it but i made it over him befor i fell into thew dirt and gravel, nothin big so i kept skating. i was alomost to the end of the hill, just after the last hairpin turn, and i was going too fast. so i tryed to scrub some speed with some slides but i dident have sliding gloves nor did i really know how to slide, i got 2 small slides in but was still hauling @ss on the 3rd slide i couldent get my knee off the ground ( i was using my knee pads to stabalize myself in lue of sliding gloves) and i next thing i know im falling with my hand straight out to "break" my fall, some how i manged to pull my arm back in and get into a pseudo-tuck and roll position. but i still mangage to land on the back of my hand. i knew instanly it wasent good but i dident much care i picked my self and my s#@! up and jumped back on my board and finished the hill but really slowly. im glad i had on a helment and knee pads i just wish i would have put on the wrist guards that were in my backpack.

now I cant wait to go back to GMR and ride it again now that i know how to slide but i still have to wait for my wrist to heal (its not broken it just hurts) and maby till i find some leathers.

I took Hustler out for our first runs in town tonight and it is just totally badass. Did I say SOLID before? This is the first big board I've been on that feels so good. After a few minutes, I was bustin ollies up the curbs and doin high speed layback 180° slides like nothin. Then I took it to a local concrete bank at an auto fixin establishment, and was bombing, sliding, gettin up high and bonelessin. This thing is just so solid, roomy, and controllable on the landings.

To cap off the night, I went to a ditch I've been eyein (http://www.bonelessone.com/gallery/reader-submissions/NorthGateDitch)... still a bit of water, but no scum, so I did a few wallrides and turns. When this bitch dries up, it'll be killer. It's about 6 feet deep, with walls that you can stick to on a carve. It's a little crumbly at the bottom, so I bolted on some Krypto 70 blues and the ride was comfy, fast and grippy. No wheelbite, good clearance from the well-placed wells.

When you're havin this much fun, you know the evenin's gonna end with either a shakedown or an injury.

I managed to avoid the rentacops at the mall, who kindly run their yellow roller lights full time. Thanks, fellas, keep up the good work. However, my right ankle was not so blessed. I was having to push hard on the flats to get speed, cause the ditch's roll-in dropped into the drink. Anyhows, I hit my right foot on the back wheel (wideass 70 Krypto), and this tweaked the path of my board right into the wet side of the ditch. Bad luck, when the foot came down, it slid and then caught on somethin, stopped hard, and twisted with a painful gnarl. Slid to a screeching halt on my knees, but the wet crete was pretty slippy, so not too much dermabrasion.

So, retrieve the Hustler from the drink, hobble out of the ditch, and get in the car to head home. Hurts like hell, but I can still gas & brake, so it must not be too much damage. Halfway home, the left rear tire on the 'Back blows out, so I'm lopin on down the shoulder on the rim. f#@!ed! Changing the tire actually made me forget about the ankle; I'll survive.

Guess I should stick to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater? Do they have any virtual ditches in there?

I just visited London and I know exactly what your talking about! I stayed in a hotel on Queensway near Hyde Park. The lay-out of that place was wonderful. I really enjoyed the white swans and the vast size of the part. Though Hyde Park is rectangular, the place was so big that I still managed to get lost:).

i had that experience of getting my fly and button ripped off on a crash a while ago, but one arm was broken and my thumb on the other hand was also broken, so i couldnt pull them up and i had to walk around the hospital (delirious on morphine) trying to pull them up.

I was setting up a course in Hyde Park last night when a bunch of youths grabbed my board from where I'd parked it neatly on its side by the Serpentine(in the balmy evening air...). There were about 12 of them (aged similarly) and so I kindly asked for my board back, firmly but authoratively. It was kicked to me after one of the lads had managed to stand on its rail and do a wobbly circle, followed by a great deal of laughing and joshing. I put this down to mid-pubescent sexual self-searching on their part (like you do) and the lack of a natural feminine calming effect in their presence. I then grabbed my board and road so stiffly, nervously and aggressively down the straight course that the tail whipped out and I was forcibly thrown to the ground. My elbow had a minor graze and the knee gave out a slight cold sensation from behind the new hole in my cotton trousers. How those boys laughed! How I hated them and all their kind and wished their parents to be sterilized that their like might not be seen again! Imagine it, a world where youngsters wouldn't laugh and mock old blokes on boards tumbling to the ground like so much human offal! Internally I swore worse things, but outwardly gave off that it happened all the time and that it was as nothing to me. An older Indian gent looked over and suggested that I be careful of my knee. I warmed to him, but was more concerned about the hole in my best trousers. I continued to skate so as to both 'get back on that horse' and to practice before stiffness set in to the cut areas. But my head had but one thought: I hated those boys and could only think that life was unfair and didn't understand. Some American bladers saw me do the course clean and emphasized that 'that's damn impressive!' I thanked them, but later I went home still annoyed and went to clean the grazes in the bathroom, tail between my legs. I wanted sympathy, not praise.

I went straight up to the bathroom for cures. On delving into the pasty gunge in the bottom of my sponge bag what should I find, but a small bottle of Liquid Skin! I'd bought this to use on a sailing holiday earlier in the year, but remarkably had held onto my outer coating better than expected. I'd been dying to give this stuff a whirl for ages especially due to it having a hardcore military origin for rapid surgery in either WW2 or Vietnam. For those who don't know, Liquid Skin is basically a translucent viscous glue with antiseptic properties, very similar to clear nail varnish in appearance and smell. I painted it on the deeper hole in the knee. "Whooooop-de-doo!!!! I heard myself cry! It burned and how!! The burning changed to stinging, the stinging became a hot glow, the glue set. I had to do it again! I applied the varnish to my elbow and yelped a second time and whilst so doing, tilted the bottle so that the liquid fell on the bathroom floor. It ate through the top layer of varnished slate on contact and continued sizzling like the corporal fluid of the monster in Aliens that burns from deck to deck. It must be doing my cuts some good! Being so impressed by the goo, I'd completely forgotten the boys and had had a brilliant time tring out this crazy potion! What's my point? Well, I didn't stick to the sheets last night and open up parts of my body only a doctor should see, so thanks Liquid Skin!!! ...oh..and not to be spooked by pesky kids...

It was a blistering 88 degrees outside while I stood comfortably on my brand new voodoo longboard. The summer heat was starting to eat away the passion I have for longboarding. This sunny summer day was wasting away while I stared at the wall in front of me. Suddenly, I had the brilliant idea of crouching down on my board as opposed to the usual standing position. I grabbed the edges of the board, my right hand clutched to the right edge and my left hand clutched to the left edge, and heaved the board upwards. In my stupid attempt to "jump" the board from a stand-still, the board had landed and slipped out from underneath my body. The 35" board shot backwards and I landed hard on my knees against the hardwood floor. Ouch. I laid there with my stomach on the floor contemplating how such a stupid incident could have ever taken place. I was thinking, "Damn, I've been longboarding for nearly 2 1/2 years....wtf jsut happened?" I arrived at the conclusion that stupid things happen to people when they're bored :).

I was out for a simple, easy, relaxing skate with a buddy of mine. We were bombing a wide bike path hill and just as I reached the bottom I heard some commotion behind me. Recognizing the noise as the sound of human flesh hitting the pavement I brought my board to a stop and looked up the hill. What I witnessed brought tears of laughter to my eyes. My buddy wasn't going to fast, (just fast enough for some mild road rash) but the awkwardness of the fall sent his shoes rocketing off of his feet. I turned to see my buddy rolling into some bushes with shoes still airborn and white stockin'ed feet slashing through the bushes. I ran up the hill, half afraid he might be hurt, and half afraid of laughing upon arrival. However upon arriving I found my buddy walking out of the bushes with his pants around his ankles. The force of the fall had not only taken his shoes off, but also torn apart the fly and button of his pants. All in all it was quite humorous and after jimmy rigging his pants together with a key chain we bombed the hill once more.

lots of fun at reading those stories... and sometimes scared to death.

i had a "nice" crash a few weeks ago, going down a really long hill (estimated 4+km) on my landy r4. had randal dh with flywheels on it, so at my moderate speed i didnt experience wobbles at all. there were a few hairpin turns, all was going well, then the last 500m were in front of me, the steepest part of the hill. the last curve (to the left) was 30m ahead so i prepared for the slide. everything went well, i was entering the slide at about 40mph, beginning it smooth, then suddenly my wheels hooked back up to the 'crete and ZANG i flew to the outside of the curve. now the only thing that was hurt was an unbelievable tiny rash spot on my right foot. nothing else, and my helmet scratched from the chin to the ear section... guys wear your gear. although i was quite strongly shivering (probably due to the shock), i was still able to skate home.

My crashing story is about a torn MCL and ACL. Local skate park, looking for speed through the banks and finding it. Carve up to the coping, short slide, back down and start to head right back up with some body english and a hard carve when my back foot slips off the deck. My back leg folded up like a chicken wing while my front foot and board continued up the bank, my tail bone hit hard and I can stil hear the crunch of the knee. I torn my other ACL in '87 and knew what I'd done right away. Summer of '03 will not be a skating summer. I hate to sit on the sideline and watch a skating day go unridden. But there's more guitar time and time with the kids. Strangly my 2 and 4 year old boys are now more interested in skating and I'm limping to the park to let them roll around. Best wishes to everyone waiting to heal so they can skate again. I'll join you after surgery and rehab. I say it's stil safer than softball or basketball and I'm sticking to my story.

About two weeks ago I was in a mates house, and his house mate comes in with his longboard. He was just skating back from work, and the plate of his truck just cracked in two.
The guy came off, sure, and was fine, except emotionally: the board has been round the world with him, and he was sooo sad to get rid of those beautiful trucks
