I also posted this at S&B

so every night I take my dog for a run about 3 miles(she runs fast and pulls me on my skateboard)a couple of times on our run I see this giant St Bernard no leash hanging in the front yard his owner a older guy is usually there but last nite his wife was out front with the dog so I think no biggie it never bothered us before so were giong about 15 mph and the last second thes dog runs out if front of me my board goes underneath and I hit it dead center with my shins I fly almost straight up my feet slam into my back and land on my chest and the top of my knees
I knocked all the air out of me and can't breathe the whole time this lady is rappidly asking me are you ok? can I call an ambulance? do you want to lay down? can I get you a glass of water? like not even any spaces to reply (I couldn't replay anyway because I could not breathe) finally she says I'll put away my dog. So I pick up the s#@! I dropped and get my dog and just split. the worst part is my wife and kids are gone for a week and I was gonna hit the parks last nite today and sunday and now I can barely walk f#@!in dog!!!!!!

Been longboard speeding for 4 years and first serious bail

to be the last ride of the day, long time hills run in sun light gleaming on black tarmack the smile of a new board underfeet and the smooth caress of springtime breeze, bombing a hill for the first time new conditions and board, asian man stops car in middle of curved hill grade, forces me into patch of cobbled pavement ending in an abrupt rise in the pavement, my stable steed leaves me wobbles then jets out from under my feet and I fly, slap plant stall with hands and cross spine roll and crouched in the three point stand hand on knee and palm to the earth then I am on my feet again, I stand and clench my fists squeeze to feel the bones still firm shake my arms and walk firmly with my legs I lick my teeth and feel no beaks in bone or blood in mouth, I smile, I feel lucky I feel grateful, not just for this smacktacular bail but in life, to have friends like I do, enjoyment of life and a love that makes tomorrow worth beliving in. The sky is blue as red drips on green and my friend picks up the board and walks towards me glazed in bewonderment. I wish to reach out and hug him but I am dripping the sweet red blood of freshly torn flesh and covered with a sheen of pavement. best bail ever...

after painting some models I went out riding again after c was so nice as to clean me up, first hill I run to gain my confidence a young girl backs out of her driveway blocking me off then running into me forcing me off the road I smash into the dirt ditch, and roll over smiling and saying "the irony is this is the second time in an hour this has happened", I more or less tore all my cuts bigger and crammed dirt into all of the open wounds. The first bail I would guess I was going 30-35+ the second bail was only severe because I was already f#@!ed up.

injury list

right hand palm 3 major gashes, pinky knuckles all riped open
right elbow torn to shreds
left hand index knuckle and pinky torn, small gash in palm and three cig style holes in wrist majority of left forearm all road rash, left elbow f#@!ED
left shoulder road rash bad
tailbone bruised
left and right knees both open
left hip bruised
boxers ripped
ufo's shredded
wu tang shirt so torn

two major bails in one day, man it was a good day in soo many ways

really though I bombed sooo many sweet hills today and had such a good time that yea, the s#@! hurts but pain is worth the expirience.

things I didn't cover I should have, getting my tats started next week at stay true everything cool with them very cool guys, got my landyachtz l0ongboard 2 days ago, made slider gloves out of the gloves that I was wearing when I smashed in my nose and a cutting board pulled my first 180 slide, also modded my lib tech with airhooks I can now get air on a longboard I have done standing arial 180'z and 360'z put bowl wheels on my lib tech for sliding, fixed up my dcs figured out what was wrong with the bearings.

notes to self...

1. Never bomb a hill on the first run
2. Never bomb one lane roads
3. Learn to power slide
4. ALways wear slider gloves
5. Flow with life living it to it's fullest

alright, thought i'd write it down just cause i felt so stupid but i know it's had to have happened to one of you before. just bought a 38" sector 9 and me and a buddy have been going out to the hills around my house. we made some gloves and i can do a coleman slide now, anyway, i wanted to see what it looked like so i put on my sliding gloves and had my brother film me do a few slides on the flat in front of my house. pushed up do speed, did the slide but my mistake was when i went to use the kicktail to turn back to normal stance, my kicktail is short so that if you lose your balance your foot hits pavement and that's exactley what happened, so i lost my balance at like no speed and went down, i put my hands out to stop me from falling, but b/c of the gloves my hands slid out, my arms crossed, and my elbows ended up stopping me and leaving two nicequarter size cuts on each one. but for real, the gloves saved me to other day when i slid for a ways on just my knee pads and gloves

BRIAN ROGERS R.I.P. - Hey all of you that don't wear helmets and pads so you can be "free", read the vendors forum/slalom forum/safety forum from the last few days, death could be your fate also. I did't know Brian other than one phone call on monday afterwhich he shortly died. Great guy, full of stoke, I wish I knew him better than the one phone call. He'll be greatly missed by friends, his wife, kids, and parents.

Hey! 2 days ago I was out a-slalom'in on a tight hybrid course,my board went out and I went down. I learned previously that even at this comparitively low speed I can do some damage so I started wearing my downhill jacket (Joe Rocket brand - 3 layers of mesh for breathability with good padding in the shoulders, forearms, elbows, and upper arm, and along the entire lumbar and thoracic spine and they come in red, blue, silver, black)even on this relatively mild slope. I probably fell as hard as any other time at this spot and this was the first time with the jacket and wearing it was a hugely preferable improvement.Oh yeah, the kneepads were well used also and the wrist guards and helmet were welcome though not used. Later - Paul H.

hey just so you know Mr. Shawn Az, randals are a take of of Gullwing trucks, and you should check out gullwing before you invest in your next randal purchase.(not that randals are bad, but if you ride the gullwings you won't go back)

Why would you use exkates for downhill? Stick with the best, get some Randall Downhill's. Never worry about speed wobbles ever again. Or get some Randall R-II 180's.

Its that time of the month and I have my popcorn and beer.If any of you have learned anything here is that most all injurys happen to your head and you arms in stand-up. Have a lid on and slide gloves. Why slide gloves? Because if you go down with the skateshop stuff you will get hurt.Just a pair of leather gloves and go to a moto shop and get and pair of pocs that they use for racing that go on the legs and glue it to you gloves. When you hit the road that will not only save skin iT will also save your ass and cloths. You see your hands are the 1st thing to come out and if your hands has great gear you can go faster with no worrys because you know if you come off its no big deal.Just slide to a stop. Never roll always slide!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
CLIFF KNOWS BEST!!!!!!1
i HAVE BURNED TRU 4 PAIRS AND HAVE CAME OFF AT 50MPH PLUS WITH NO WORRYS!
YOU CAN TOO!

ALL YOU SPEED WOBBLERS AND NO-HELMETERS,check my last 2 entries. Another piece of advice, learn to foot-brake and get some palm plates (those gloves/wristguards with the extra thick plate of plastic on the palm - see the safety section)and learn, learn, learn how to do Coleman slides to control your speed, it will be time and money well spent. ERIC Hey, nothing cures speed wobbles like #1 having your back truck noticably tighter than the front truck, and #2 put wedge risers on both trucks so the small end points forward and the thick end points backward ON BOTH TRUCKS. This will make the front turn sharper and the back turn less which will carve a turn nicer and be much more stable as it eliminates the "fishtailing" of the back end. Later - Paul Howard

BOB, Hell yes I wear a helmet always on a hill. As an Xray tech of 10 years, one thing I've learned is that there's a term for people who don't wear helmets and do risky stuff around hard surfaces and that term is : neuro-ward patient. I'm also one of those dorks that wears wrist braces, knee pads and a synthetic motorcycle jacket with lots of shoulder padding as I get really cranky if an injury keeps me from skating, backpacking, snowshoeing or bowhunting. Those are my thoughts anyhow. Later- Paul Howard

I had just started longboarding and i was using my friends board because i didnt have one of my own yet and after a few solid runs down the local hill my other friend and I decided to skitch up to the top after bumming a ride from this guy we knew. Going up the hill at about 30 mph, the guy driving made a slight inside turn and since i was hanging on the front passenger door and i hadnt had much experience with skitching, the board drifted under the car until the cars rear wheel grabbed it and i hit the pavement so fast. miraculously, i didnt break any bones but only scrapped up my plams a little. Ithink this is because I kind of bounced upon hitting the ground and curled up and landed on my back, because my clothes were entirely detroyed and ripped to shreds on my back. The board was broken in half and i had to buy my friend a new one but it taught me to stop mooching and buy my own board if im going to break them.

So I hooked up on a fakie rock'n'roll at the park and landed on my hip/ass. I had just installed new trucks so I had my Grind King tool in my back pocket to make any necessary adjustments. When folded it is a fairly benign tool, being pretty much a half inch diameter four inch long rod with no protrusions. The impact of the tool into my ass has ended with a bruise that has apparently stopped growing after three days at three inches by six inches. The section of my ass that is injured is swollen approximately one inch in height. The moral: Be careful about carrying tools while skating.

I love the Exkates. I know I've hit 30 maybe even 40+ (I've gotta confirm speed on a few of my favorite hills one of these days). You must keep your weight forward and your body solid. I've experienced some minor drifting at high speed, even with a straight line, but never what I would call wobbles. Body solid, steer with the head seems to work for me.

for some strange reason the more horror stories i read the more i like sk8n. just had a strange wipeout which wasn't really a wipeout but still managed to pop my knee out. iwas bombing what looked like a mellow path here in cardiff UK when everything went pear shapes, 30 mph and i felt like jimmy on witchy poohs boat.thought i'd ride it out which i did but i was riding a new dreggs tanker randall ii and abec flys 85mm 75a and had yet to even try a few slides. well the wheels decided to fall in love with the path and deny me any slide, that with a tight cliff coleman style grind all my weight closed in on my left knee causing a loud pop!!!!! should be back out in a week or so!

A few months ago I got my first longboard. My father also decided to get a longboard and get back into skating after 20 years and 60lbs ago. We bombed a hill by our house and got going about thirty miles an our when my dads new exkates began to speed wobble. When he fell we were side by side and his arm hit me and i flew into the grass and rocks to the side of the road. I didn't have a scratch on me but my knee had hit a rock head on and was twice as big. Always were knee pads.

hey i am from England and i live on a big hill. I got into longbordin about a year ago and made my own deck coz all the bords and hardware iz really expensive in the uk after a few months ridein my bord round town i decided that more speed was required so while carveing the top of the hill (where it isnt so steep) i decided to go all the way it was a split second decision and the fealin was amazeing untill i rounded the bend at the bottom of the hill and saw the road stretch out in front of me this split second of loss of concentration and i lost my nerve by now i can only estimate my speed and i began to wobble as it got worce i decided not to fight it and i bailed really really badly catchin my running foot on the swerveing bord and falling headlong in the tarmac tearing holes in both my hands removeing the skin of my left hand side as i fell and slideing on down the hill ripping up my shirt and exposing my hip and takeing all the skin off it. The adreneline was rushiing and i got up really stoked and ran up the hill to my house where i realised that the shock was settin in and laid myself in the recovery position then fell unconsious. I repaired my board and still enjoy carvein up the hills where i live.
