I was hit by a car again. The same stupid thing as always. ITs a cross walk. The light is a green for us ped. to go. So im going because I can. And not only is the light green, but I am in california so I have the right of way. Anyways, this other lady was walking the opposit direction that I was (comming towerds me) and so I went. And then of course as my luck would have it, this car takes a right turn just as I get off the side walk. All of a sudden there is this brand new oldsmobile in front of me. So I do the only sensable thing, I huck my self over the hood slidig the whole way. But of course the car doesnt stop right away. After all in napa having people slid across your hood is a common thing right? So they keep going and then when they finaly decide to stop they do so on top of my luke nosewalker. Nice of them huh. ANd the sit there for about a minute before deciding to keep going. When they roll off of my board it kicks my board up about five feet in the air, which is actully a great site to see.... and so the driver and passanger gets out, and of course they are these old ass women with pink ass hair. How lame is that. And they get out and "bl;ah blah blah, watch where you are going blah blah dont go so fast, I didnt see you" and I was just all"hey, I had it green, you have to look for me. you are old" and then they just get in their car and drive away! But im not hurt, well I dont feel the pain yet, and my board isnt that hurt. It ran over the truck, so my front truck might have way to much stress on it. And I have a tire track all over the clean white grip of my nose. And my front left wheel has a nice big nick taken out of it but its still remarkably round and it does not affect the performance of the board at all.

i just got taken out by a girl in a bar, around 190 pounds, beaten in an arm wrestle. Later on, in an attempt to regain my manhood, I decided to ride down three flights of stairs on a plastic bakers tray (for lack of a longboard). alright the first time, i earned much kudos from the boys, and it was alright the second time,but the third time I ended up backwards and came off on the last transition, so bruises on the hands f**ked elbows and my back is destroyed as well. we will see how i turn out in the morning. i don't think i will be riding in a while.

I learned a lesson about skating barefoot the other day. Me and my friend are always skating barefoot - we live in texas and theres really no big hills so speed isnt usually a problem, and besides, skating barefoot means style;) I decided to try and luge on my 48 barfoot. This was a dumb thing to do. I have NEVER gotten speed wobbles on my barfoot, never ever. but standing up and luging have a different effect on the board, I guess, cuz within 15 seconds of a pretty good hill my board went crazy. So to stable myself, i put my feet down. Mistake - I had no shoes on! But a curb was coming up fast so I let the concrete tear into the bottom of my feet. Luckily they are pretty tough from never wearing shoes, but man, it hurt like hell. and I couldnt really stand up afterword.
Also another punk-a motorist tried to hit me and my bro again. This freak just turned into our subdivision and reved it up, straight at us, even though he had a whole other lane. So we were forced to bail out (again, no shoes on) and be pissed off. Is it just texas still?!? Need less to say, this certain person found a nice surprise on his car, next time he'll have some respect hopefully. Not that you should screw up peoples stuff all the time, but this person WANTED to hit us, he thought it would be funny. Jokes on him though.. later every1

The long weekend proved fun...but could have been otherwise.
A friend and myself found some great hills in the foothills area of Boulder Colorado. These hills weren't extreme but they had speeds of 35-40, which is plenty fast for me.
I took about 7 runs on my board, (s9 concave pintail with R2's) and the board and trucks performed like a dream. No wobbles and extremely stable. I could also turn at pretty fast speeds without that "squirrly" feeling.
After about an hour and a half of hitting the hills, my friend on the drive back up the hill asked if he could try my board, being that he's never ridden on R2's before.
I didn't see a problem with it, and switched with him. I was now riding a G&S 44' pintail with Torsion trucks. About 2 minutes into my run, I got small wobbles...."no problem" I thought, "I'll pull a carve to slow myself down."
Big mistake...
The carving feel is so different between these 2 trucks, the board became unstable and bucked me off. I was about at 30mph when this happened. I was airborne for what seemed like forever, when I finally hit the ground....
I landed pretty hard on my shoulder and hip, and slid for a while. But what surprised me is I landed in the only grass stretch on this hill...about 70 feet worth of grass out of a 2 mile run. My guardian angel must have ploped me there because I couldn't have hit it any other way.
The aftermath was a pretty nasty ding on my bud's deck, and a bruised shoulder and hip. At the bottom of the run, I gladly retuned my friends board, and snatched mine back. The next run on my board was perfect again, and the day ended without anymore bails.

The local park here requires helmets but no pads. I'm the only one who wears pads, but then I'm the only one that skates the half-pipe much. I never hit my head but I'd be lost without my burly knee pads with the slider caps.

as far as I know all skate parks require pads on the people using them. Of course if they do not have people there to man it, then no one listens to the law and does not use those ugly pad things. Besides if you wear pads you arnt cool.

Mr. Safety,
The park is actually in Palmdale, CA and is run by the Parks and Rec Department. Tax payer money built it and maintains it too. There is no charge to skate, only release forms to sign and a picture to keep on file.
In the begining there were a few real nasty spills that resulted in near-death experiences for the a few of the kids. At that point, the park almost closed... thank fully there was general insurance that covered the damages... HR

I was coming home from work when I told my boss to pull over, and I decided to pull out my new long board (Fish) everything was going fine, untill I hit around 30mph (I know this because my boss and my buddy were in front of me in a truck)My board began to wobble because of the high speed so I decided to try and jump and run off the board. Unfourtunalty I can't run 30mph and I took a really really really hard fall onto my UNPROTECTED noggin. The pavement didn't feel good on my head. I was knocked out cold for at least 10-20 secs untill my buddy draged me out of the road. My buddy said that my first words to him after I came to was, "Dude where's my board" Luckily my board was undamaged. But myself, I went to the hosipital (via my buddy driving me f--- the ambulance I had no insurance) I had to get a catscan due to the extensive bleeding and pressure in my right ear. I am okay now and I have invested in a brand new helmet.....All I have to say is if you get a longboard INVEST IN A HELMET...

Helmet and padding rules enforced!!! Oh My!!!! Who is this smart operator. Unfortunately he is probably out of business by now as no one skates his place anymore. What to do? Make money or try to be a safe place (with no customers) what a shame!!
Now that i'm retired for downhill anything the only accident i've had was a paper cut while mailing out some bills.
This is Mr. Safety signing off and bored as hell with no downhill equipment to use. Life sucks.
Keep up with the hammering home of using safety equipment.

Are you sure your not talking about me? A few months ago I decided to try the little short board/roller blade park in the area. Now I wasn't on a giant board (Only 30" long) but I too fell hard on my back side. I was coming off a silly little bank and my board got away from me. This place is really too tight for me.
I was sore for a week! I sure would like to find a park that was set up for longer boards and older fatter guys!
I went back a few days ago and was able to escape injury. I did notice that all the cool kids don't skate there anymore ever since pads/helmet rules are being inforced. (the mandatory parental signed release of liability waivers didn't inspire them either)

Well, I dropped in on my first 1/4 pipes over the weekend. ...the only one there geeked out in pads, I wasn't takin any chances. All the fourteen year olds pretty quickly realized they'd better be on their toes...the old guy on the giant board is outta control. Anyway, I escaped my first bunny slope session humble and in tact.
Today I was not so lucky. Alone at the park, I had a chance to get a little more comfortable and pretty soon I was on the ground. Turnin down the face of a monstor 3 foot 1/4 pipe I blew it and wailed my sachrum. I've been layin low all afternoon hobblin around my apartment. After 27 years my body is less agile and more fragile than ever. If it keeps goin like this I might just stick to carvin and sliding.
Anyone got any tips for an old guy thinkin about hittin a 1/2 pipe?

Matt - sounds painful. Oh, and Wiggy - I'm feeling the pain plenty. I took a (miniscule) little fall about 6 months ago on a hill in western Pennsylvania. This teeny tiny little crash broke my arm in 2 different places, and I had the cast on until about 2 months ago. Now I have a pin in my arm. It sucks. And about my reply to your story: What else can I say? I enjoy the sport and I enjoy hearing stories about spills and gnarly hills, so when someone posts a story that sounds like it was written by a drunken 2nd-grader, I'm a little disappointed.

What's up, everyone? Hope all is well with all. Now, to the crash story.
Offroad wheels are such a tempting thing, ahh, but alas, dangerous! After bolting these puppies on my 42" freeride board I headed up to a local state forest to carve down some fireroads with some friends. Once surveying the scene, I was the first to start down, in my concrete skull state, wearing surf shorts, a tank top, and tevas. Don't everyone laugh at once...although I do still accept pity! By the time the crash occurred I had already changed into some running shoes just for more stability. After making some baby runs, I decided to take the whole hill. One lane in width, twisting, with drop-offs on the sides, and loose stones in the middle. I picked up some good speed and carved most of it off before tucking into a slight flat section. I realized the I couldn't carve across the loose middle section but had to stay in the bare wheel tracks. Everyone else is familiar with the story. Speed wobbles that eventually caused me to bail. Trouble is...too fast to sprint with my momentum. Slide, slide, slide. Road rash on my left leg, hip, ankle. Two big caverns in my knee, that look a bit like rancid, putrid meat, and cut up hands. I burned through my sock and running shoe, as well.
Funny thing is, this happened at a catholic youth group camping trip, so the story turned from a wreck to a divine case of stigmata!!
Too bad for the novel, although I'm sure someone will enjoy and snicker at my youthful ignorance.

Hi everyone out there in monkey town. I want to tell you a tail of just a couple of fun stories to remind you of the joy of falling to the floor and loosing skin in the places that flex most. The first one was awhile back now but in the city I live in (Perth, not Monkey town) They decided to put in a new freeway and lay it with some brand new smooth as butta ashphalt. There was no way I could resist a ride on that thing. So I took off with a buddy one night, because the thing was still going through construction at day. We were having a good time on our S9 supercruisers starting to get confident with the surroundings and carving some of the off ramps. By now I was, "this is the greatest, I can do anything!" so I took off for a new stretch picking up some speeeeeeeeed. There is only two problems with that pleasurable night. It was dark and the highway was still under construction. So as I sailed on down the hill I managed to avoid seeing the 3 inch thick bit of wood laying across the dark road. The way it kinda snuck up on me was the biggest problem. You never quite know what to do when you are instantly thrown from your board with absoulutly no idea of how to brace your self. All I could think of is which bones I would prefer to have broken. I ended up just lying on the ground trying to breath for about 5 mins and being completely mistifyed at the why I was no longer cruising down the hill and lying on the floor in a vast amount of pain. My friend was an awesome support as he Slowwwwly aproched me he tryed to comfort me with some reasuring words of "I saw that but I thought it was a shadow"
Lesson Learned: Make your friend go first and apologize for the shadow later.

Hey beehive man, I would love to hear any hills you know of. Anyone tried bombing little cottonwood canyon? Here's another crash story so this post is legal. Damn Provo drivers! I was hit by a car at about 25 mph and the two guys in the car looked right at me and then took off. Luckily I was wearing my helmet. Two days later my friend was hit at the same intersection by an old grandma and grandpa. They did the same thing! Looked, and then took off! What the crap!!!????

This is a good reason to wear a helmet:-
5 days ago me and my mate Pete were bombing a steep long hill in London England, (Alexandra Palace Road) and I'm on a united skates cruiser, Pete's on a tim curran flexdex and the air was still. We get about a third of the way down and pete stands up to get a better footing and the board violently rips away from him and over he goes in a flash.
We weren't wearing helmets or pads and he's now been in hospital for three days and today was the first day that he exhibited any coherent speech. I can only say that if it werent for the emergency services he probably would have died as he's got a fracture in his skull going from the front to the back of his skull. Wear a helmet as DT will tell u.

I know most people think that there is little or no life in Utah, and well, youre right. BUT, luckily my friend and I happened across a couple longboards and were instantly hooked. My board is about a 62-inch bad*%$ that scared the shnikeys out of me the first time I bombed a big hill. I had no idea these things would get rolling like they do. We had so much fun doing this that we talked one of our friends into coming with us. He wanted to try, but we were hesitant to let him because he is about as coordinated as a pine tree. He jumped on the board, strapped on this kids fake police helmet as a joke, and headed off. I followed in My Jeep with the lights on him so he could see. He got a pretty good case of death wobbles at about 30 mph and at about 35 he was bucked. He hit the ground on his side and did nearly 427 rolls. I didn't really count, but it was alot. I jumped out to help him and all I saw was a busted up helmet and a THICK, WIDE stream of blood running down the street. I yelled his name and he didn't move. I ran up to him and he was out cold. 6 hours later he walked out of the hospital with a good case of roadrash, 10-15 stitches, and 18 staples in his head. We now wear real helmets. He hasn't been on a board since, but me and my friend ride regularly and are currently looking for a steep enough hill to try and beat the speed record of 62.55 mph. We'll keep in touch.

well i have two tips for you all after a bad crash today. First, dont be like me and get all excited after building a new board and run out to test it on a big run, start on a small run or just the flats. second dont be a fool like me and as your flying through the air superman style (with your board careening into oncoming traffic) look down at your hands and say "oopps, what a day to forget to put gloves on" bad situation to be in, goin 40km/h without gloves... ouch.. in fact im bleeding on my keyboard as we speak. but i was wearing my helmet ,but of course it sustained no injuries.

Yesterday, i went to Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) with Sean Mallard. The hill is about 7 miles with over 120 turns. There are every type of turn and you reach speeds over 50, although you spend most of the time in the 35 - 40 range. This is a 2 lane mountain road with no cross streets.
There were some gang bangers there drinking and probally getting high. (Now i had heard stories about past gang bangers throwing beer bottles at riders as they went by, so we were keeping an eye on them) After the first run, on the way back up, they were yelling at us as we drove by. and as we started down they had left. but not completly, they spun their cars tires off in the sand stone rock sides in 4 different turns. This came to a surprise as we would come around a blind turn into a bunch of rocks the size of soft balls and tennis balls. I made it through the first two but on the 3rd i had a problem. It was a 90 degree left that went into a 180 degree right. The rocks were in the transition between the two turns. I missed several of them but clipped my back right wheel at 40mph, instantly slamming me to the pavement. The driver said i bounced over a foot back into the air before landing and sliding to a stop. I hit my head hard, it caused my helmet to cut open my chin and i was dizzy. I waited about 30 seconds than continued on. (Problem, i should have waited longer) I rode a little further but was still a little dizzy, when i went to drag my foot i lost my balance and crashed again at about 30mph, this time i landed on my shoulder causing my shoulder to dislocate. After sitting on the side of the hill for 5 minutes i went to the nearest emergency room and had my shoulder back in after an hour of x-rays and paperwork.
conclusion:
-dislocated left shoulder
-major cuts on my chin
-large scrapes on my left knee (the first crash tore my leathers but i didnt realize until after)
-roadrash and swelling on my left hip (also torn leathers)
-my neck is also messed up as i will be making a visit to the chiropractor
IF I WERE NOT WEARING A HELMET AND LEATHERS I WOULD STILL BE IN THE HOSPITAL OR AT A FUNERAL PARLOR.
PLEASE ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET

A fellow skater i know was skateboarding and fell off. His head cracked open and he had 1/6 chance of living. He was not wearing a helmet. He was lucky and survived but has a titanium plate in his head now. Wear your helmet!!! He then was skating and got severe speed wobbles. He flew off and did a few judo rolls. He was wearing a helmet so his head was ok but he got his leg dislocated. Wear your HELMETS.
