A while ago, me and a buddy of mine were skating from his house to mine to watch some skate videos. I had four videos, a set of wheels he gave me, a soda in ny hands, and a skate tool in my pocket. We were racing to my house and he thought he'd see how close he could get to me, and maybe even rub wheels like you see race cars doing all he time. Stupid idea. He tries it, our wheels lock, and we both stack it like Biker and Leemo in last years Gravity Games, but just not as fast. The videos, wheels and soda go everywhere, and the skate took gives my a monster dead leg. I only got scrapes and a huge dead leg, but it was a mental thing to do. I still make fun of him and I for doing it. No videos or wheels were harmed during the crash, but my Mountain Dew was lying there, emty bottled after that. I tell you, there is nothing that opens your eyes about keeping the cap on you bottles after a thing like that. Keep it real guys! And keep those caps on your sodas!

A month and a half ago I was riding in an area I hadn't skated before. As I was coming around a corner, I came across a hill that shot down at a nice fast angle. Unfortunately, I didn't check the line before taking off. I kicked at the top to get some speed, and about halfway down, I knew I was in trouble. I've hit some pretty fast speeds (for me, anyway) on other hills around town (about 30 to 35 mph), but I was over my head this time. The pavement was rough and uneven, and the hill was steeper than I thought. I had tightened up my Indies as far as they would go, but I started getting the wobbs real bad. The hill flattened out a bit about halfway down before the last drop, and I thought I could maybe scrub some speed. By this time I was veering all over the road, and I didn't see the pothole till it pitched me. I felt very lucky I didn't get hurt worse. I couldn't sleep on my side for three weeks, and whenever people ask me about the scars on my arm, I just tell them I fell down walking to the grocery.

While we're at it, there may be some who didn't know about the death of my beautiful 15 year old son. He died after falling on a hill and sustaining a traumatic brain injury. We were pretty much in the middle of nowhere, Eureka Springs, AR, and by the time he made it to a trauma center by helicopter, although he survived an incredible brain surgery his brain died due to the swelling and lack of oxygen, while lying injured and unconscious, prior to surgery. He never regained consciousness, he seizured at the site of his fall. If any of you have problems while skateboarding or your friends fall and seizure, seek immediate help. Brain injuries don't have to happen, they can be prevented, but once they do happen they are permanent, even if you don't die there is no cure for a brain injury. You could suffer some severe mental staus changes, balance and speech, coordination problems, etc. Simon has been gone since 11/29/98. We miss him every day. I cry almost every day at least once. He had a great life and was very happy. He was a talented violinist and electric guitar was his new hobby that was coming along quite nicely. He was a brilliant student and loved art. He was kind to all people, I think that was his greatest attribute. He was cool, played ice hockey, good looking young man, but always kind. As they say "loved by all" truly. Please share the sadness and loss of my dearly beloved son, Simon Cvetkovich. Thank you, his mother, Jeanne Schoenhofer.

Webmasters, how about a couple of pages that pay respect to those that have passed away? Like Harun DeLuce?
Tug, my heart goes out to you.

Note from the Webmaster:
Ncdsa.com has promoted riding safety since day one, and we consider it our most important role in this sport. Our home page references "several forums dedicated to the topic". Let's see: there's Safety Equipment, Riding Safety, and what else? This forum, the Crashing forum. Yep, it's actually a deterrent and teaching tool, not just a crash scene for looky loos.
That's why we ask that people keep the posts focused on actual crashes. Not posts about the time you almost crashed. Not comments on somebody else's crash (though these are sometimes well written and thus permitted).
But people continue to abuse this forum, which just wastes our webmasters' time as they have to relocate or delete the errant posts. Red warning text on the input form has not helped. So consider this fair warning: users who continue to abuse this important forum risk losing their posting privileges on ncdsa.com.

after a long hiatus, im back... and have been hit by 2 cars...well, not really hit but more like attacked in one case and narrowly avoided in the other. in the longboarder VS the hillbilly truck driver he actually came across 2 empty lanes of traffic into the wrong handed lane to scare me (i hope he was just trying to scare me) needless to say a swerved tothe right and hit a curb, spilling onto the sidwalk sliding on my chest and getting some seroius road rash.. second time i was bombing along after a little time away from the board and i was approaching this fourway stop intersection. I saw no cars so i didnt feel the need to scrub any speed.. so i start my way through the 4-way and this old lady flys beside me... passing me from behind i nteh middle of this intersection and nudges me with her big assed lincoln. I of course bail out and am lying there wondering what happened when my board comes at me and smacks me in the back (adding insult to injury). The lady stops her car, and im just lying there dazed on the ground, then she peels out and leaves me there!!!!! AARRGGHHH i didnt have my glasses on so i couldent see the plates (probably a good thing i didnt have them on as they would have benn toasted) but this brings up my question, does anyone have these car related problems or is it just me and my little hick town in southern alberta??!! cheers all, RooX

Well i just heard that a skateboarder in San Francisco was holding onto a truck skitching and then he lost his leg. A scary reminder not to skitch on back of cars or trucks.

Well, I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new flexdex tomorrow from solidskate...to take my mind off the waiting I decided to share a little story... Last week I decided to skate down this beast of a hill in a nearby town from where I live. I drove there, upon arriving realizing I didn't have my longboard, but my shortboard which I use to skate street. 'Oh well,' muttered I, proceeding to butt-board down this beastly one-and-a-half-block-long-yet-MURDEROUSLY-steep hill. About 2/3 of the way down I started to fishtail, so I tried to stop by grinding down my heels, since I was only going perhaps 20mph. Wobbling badly, a small chunk out of my hand resulted, AND: I hyperextended my TOE. (Then ran my foot over with a 99a wheel) Quite an interesting injury, hurt something wicked for about an hour, then felt fine. Oh well. I guess that hill kicked my a$$. But tomorrow's another day...

tug deluce--harun's brother

my good freind just instant messaged me, and told me to go to this site, he told me witch stories to read, so i did. My brother was Harun DeLuce- the skateboarder that went down the intersection of 926 and 52. Harun died, after colliding with an SUV. Both, the SUV, and my brother were going at about 40-45 mph, when they collided at a 90 degree angle. i was shocked to read that so many people were concearned about writing these things- and i thank them very much. Harun didn't wear any pads, or a helmet. he had many injuries, but there was a chance that he could have been saved- if he had worn a helmet. i disagree that he would have lived- only if he had a helmet- because his body was crushed, and his internal organs were usless. The brain-stem was snapped, and that probably would have been saved from the helmet, but all of the other injuries would have killed him. He died on his 18th birthday- July 2nd, 2000, but i feel angry, and scared at times, but over-all, i feel at peace with myself.

i was riding down this hill without scoping it first (my first mistake). so i got to that speed where you know you'll just have to hold it out, and i couldn't slide because i forgot my glove, and what do i see but a cliff dropping off into nowhere. so i make the attempt to slide anyway, since a hamburger hand would be better than a trip off a cliff. the slide was going alright until my front wheel melted and left me sliding on three wheels and a couple bearings. so the bearings fell off and left me with my truck against the pavement. the truck broke off my board and i went careening off the cliff. on the way down my head hit a rock and flew off! after about 20 minutes of falling, i finally hit the ground. my arms popped off much like those crash test dummies. of course, the first thing i thought of after getting up was my board. it was alright. i would need new trucks and wheels, but that was little to pay for my solid adamantium board. however, i couldn't find my head or arms, and my wallet was gone! at least my board was alright. i am investing in permanent UHMW pads surgically grafted to my palms to avoid any future damage, and i am also sponsoring a research facility for un-meltable urethane. maybe someday careless errors such as mine will be phased out by proper technology.

Hey! Today my friend got a new longboard. We went out to go a nd try it, but smart us forgot to tighten the trucks since they were moved from a longer deck onto a shorter (new) one. about half way down the hill he hits a "stick" and get wobbles. A second or so later, his board flies out from under him and he goes rolling another quarter of the way down the hill. I immediately stopped to see if he was ok. At first he thought he had broken his knee cap. once i convinced him that it wasn't, he got up and asked aobut the board. It had gone directly into the greass, no damage at all! He soon walked away with road rash on this knees, elbows and lower back. It was kinda funny. First run on the board, first time falling! But the even funnier thing is that as soon as we had him bandaged up, we went back outside and within a few minutes he had fripped off his board and fell headlong into a bush. I was bent over in laughter for a few minutes.
Nothing seriously hurt, so no harm done!

Hr, funny story, had the same kind of thing happen to me a little while ago. I was just skating around town to go somewhere and I was all tired so I dropped down, so that I could just haunch over my board. BUt then I dropped down, I was all off of balance, and I couldnt do anyhitng. IF I tried to straighen myself out, then I would have fallen, and if I just stayed there I would fall too. So, smart me decided thta I was just going to stay right there off balance down way to low on my board. I go about another block when I just fall off the board and roll to the other side of the street. Looking back at it, it is kind of funny.
well, ride hard.

I was cruising down this alley/drainage area that leads to the court I live in. This alley is a little sketchy, but since I skate it all the time, I'm usually ok, even with the huge amount of broken glass on it. I came to this one part where there is a triangle of concrete missing about 6" wide. Usually I just ride over it with the hole centered between my wheels and I do a little jump to sort of float the board over it safely. Well, I jumped, but it was badly timed because my wheels caught the edge and the board STOPPED. I did not. I pretty much just slammed down onto the concrete on the back of my right shoulder and my head whipped back onto the concrete, knocking my helmet off, which I did not have buckled-OOPS! Good thing I had it on though. Now I'm just really sore on my right side with some minor road rash on my right elbow & knee, adding to the road rash on my right knee which never fully goes away before I fall again. Oh well, falling is kind of fun as long as you don't get hurt too bad-What does not kill me makes me stronger-that's how I look at it. ---S

I did not have a crash, but I my board did the other day. I was not sober and a little unhappy, because Germany just passed out of the European Soccer Championship, stepping of my board a little laid back, and it running on the street, with that taxicab approaching, and its rear tire was running right over it. One wheel came off, and one truck was bend a little, but the deck (a gravity 11ply birch) was o.k. !
So, if you want a solid board, try a Gravity !

Just went to the mail box up the street. On the way down... mail in pocket... I decided to try one of those laid back hard turns (the kind where your butt is only a foot off the ground) Everything was fine until my rear foot un-weighted under flex.
Back end slid out and I bounced on my left cheek. I hopped up real quick... mail blowing in the 20+ mph wind, all down the street. Boards ok, mail was secured, pride was wounded, no other injuries... HR

Ok this story is a little stupid. One afternoon I decided to go longboarding for awhile in our nieborhood. I soon came acroos this nice hill that was in our nieborhood and decided to go down it. I wanted to go a little more than fast so I not only kicked to start down the hill I gave it a few kicks while on my way down the hill as I was kicking down the hill picking up aaaalot of speed my shoe came untied. I tried to be smart about it and decided to stop kicking so I went to place my foot up on the board to cruise the rest of the way. I was abou 3 quarters of the way down when I gave it one more big kick and in doing so I go to put my foot out and gain alot of speed wobble and lost ballance because my other foot was on my untied shoe lace I went in this graceful twrile for a second and met the newley paved black top road. I rolled, rolled, rolled until I came to a complete stop in a mess of road rashed arms, legs, and yes my face. It hurt sooo bad! but the next day being a little achy I took the hill on again and double notted my shoe laces.
