Yesterday, i had taken Flindt home in San Bernadino and was going home on the Ortega Hwy. It is the 2nd most dangerous highway in California full of winding turns through a canyon with sharp drop offs etc, etc. As i was coming home I came across a down motorcyclist. There was already an off duty firefighter and an off duty EMT on scene. I quickly parked and began to assist them. It was real bad. This young man (about my age in the early 20s) was racing his sportbike and was dropping a knee through a turn when he hit a reflector that was just outside the road, this caused him to either layit down or high side into a solid gaurd rail at speeds easily in the high 80s+++. His bike was about 20 yards away from him and he was unconsious with massive amounts of blood everywhere. His pulse was weak and shortly after i got there he stopped breathing. We began cpr but were unable to get any air in due to the high amounts of blood and fluid in his airway. We had no suction and he had been there at least 20-30mins. Shortly afterwards his pulse stopped, local firefighters, forestry, chp,etc showed up. They tried to revive him but it had been too long and the internal damage was too severe. This young man passed after only living a very short life. It was a real wake up call. We are only here for so long and then its over. Live your life to the fullest. everyday.

This thursday, right before the last day of school, I was involved in a high speed crash. I was speedboardin' with my friends, and all was going well. My last run that day ended with me crashing into a brick wall at a 45 degree angle at about 30 mph. I suffered a concussion and many scrapes to my body, and two chipped teeth. Luckily I was wearing a helmet, which probably saved my head some (despite going unconscioud for 1 min). It all happened because I tried moving my front foot to right above the front truck, which made me lose my balance. As I tried to regain my balance on the turn, I found I was heading straight for the edge of the road. Oh well, at least I'm alive. Remember people, always wear a helmet, cuz you may not live to regret the day you didn't wear one.

Last week i got a cast off my broken arm, yesterday i almost broke it again
Im relatively ne the longboarding and i thought i knew what speed wobbles were and i thought i was pretty good, i saw this awsome hill on the walk home and i decided i'd try it later with me board. So i came back a few hours later with one wriste guard for my recently broken arm, i figured, just incase i do fall i dont wanna re break it so i hop on my board and was carving a little but obviously not enough, My board started to wobble real bad and i started to head for the grass but it shook really hard and threw me off. So as im in the air preparing to run and not fall, i land with one foot back on the board and it slips out from underneath me. I slid on my elbows and but and hit my head.

So i went to the ER to have my arm checked out. and they said nothing is wrong except for a massive swollen bruise on my right arm which now is the size of an orange and i skinned my left elbow but nothing really else except for soreness all over.
Im going to go get new pads that fit this week end and knowing me ill be back on the top of the hill.

That was day 137 that that season......day 1 of skate season 2001(after 15 days of fun riding still snowboarding) crusin down this turny little path and I hit some coblestone and start to wobble, big, like 10', 12' the path narrows and people appear, after a great texas 2 step(no wheel slides possible:coblestone) and a roadrashless roll from 40mph to stop, I nudged a garbege can and now I'm out for a long while with a C1 vertebrea that has lost a wing and has 2 hairline fractures sucks

alberto's post is wrong, I know i gained more than 2 feet on him cause i couldnt see him at all then he gained some speed and tried to squeeze through and he said he tried to push me, well, he didnt touch me till he pulled me down and then we fell. Im not sayin it wasnt my fault but he should have yelled not pulled and i gained more than two feet cause i glanced right when i passed him and he was all the way behind i should have looked again to see where he was. I also didnt cut him off cause i went in a straight line from the apex of one turn to the next.

That's nothin' compared to how I fell Yesterday. I must have been going around 10 mph when I hit a rock and fell. I tried to roll on my side but instead I just cracked the side of my skull. I had road rash on my hip and I was shaken up the whole day. I couldn't move for 15 mins. And that's with a helmet. And leathers. Falling feels worse than I thought it would.

Today me and myfriend were racing on a hill. we were neck& neck until he got the inside of the first turn and i lost about 2 feet on him, but luckily i had my best wheels on my best trucks and as we went into the second turn he cut me off.( He doesn't really bother looking around for hazards)so i was stuck between him and a fence. well evidently he closed in on me and i could put my foot down because i would just be riding with him. well he fenced me in(i had absolutely nowhere to go. so i gave him a little push just to say hello. Our boards rubbed wheels his launched infront of him. he slid on his ass for about 20 feet(conservativly)And i ended up flying over him, on the way hitting him on his noggin flipping him forward and this flipped me as well. so now i'm in the air.(i have absolutley no idea whats happening )Then i hit the ground headfirst(had a helmet) then came my shoulder and rist and then came my feet above me where my knee and hip smacked the ground. I was stunned, i couldn't hear for a bit and i was spazing a little. i came out with a severe headache. hopefully a sprained rist(hopefully)bruises on my hip, knee and elbow( i was wearing pads too)and road rash on my shoulder. my friend just has a "strawberry" on his ass as he may call it.all this with no leathers

Thursday night I went riding after I got off work. When I went i forgot my helmet and shoes. I was able to borrow some shoes but no helmet could be found.
As we were skating thru the turns of a parking garage, I was passed on the inside just before a switchback and as we went through the turn I started an S-carve to scrub off speed. I had switched to harder bushing since all of my Randal bushings were shredded. I took an outside line and as I came through the turn my back rear wheel clipped a wall and threw me. I landed on my head and shoulder. This caused my shoulder to pop out again (8th time in the last year) and I had a head injury. I was out like a light and from what i was told was bleeding bad. One of my friends used his shirt with direct pressure to control the excessive bleeding and I was taken to hoag. After sitting in the lobby for close to an hour I began to come back from la la land and a few hours later my shoulder would be put back in as well as some stitches in my head, and after 5 hours had gone by they got the results from my cat scan and I was rewarded with some morphine. Now i must sit around the house and wish i was skating. Will i be at Donner? time will only tell.

PS. WEAR A HELMET!!!

my friend was riding my longboard down my street, not a steep grade but enough that you build a lot of speed, he shortboarded so he was used to being able to fell every thing as you vibrated down the road, but because my longboard is big flexy and soft wheels he didn't realize how fast he was going, he stepped off at the end of the street to stop, he tripped did a front roll and then slide across the pavement, he suffered a large laceration on his abdomen, a scraped knee, and most of the skin is missing from his hand to elbow

I haven't crashed since Nov 19, 2000 when I entered my first slalom event in some time and took a nasty bad ass spill durimg my first run right as I was going through the finishing line- 25+mph falling right of the board and landing on my right shoulder and elbow and head. Seperated shoulder and fractured elbow (2'nd time- same spot!) The helmet did save my life as most of the impact rolled from the shoulder right to the head. The first time I had ever crashed doing slalom and the worst injury I had ever suffered, 20 years after I had stopped skating. After 2-1/2 months of physical therapy I decided to get a Dainese speedsuit (superhero slip-on suit with sewn in elbow and shoulder pads) which I always wear in unfamiliar terrain, especially when going fast. I am mostly healed up now but still got that shoulder bone sticking out as a reminder- keep telling my wife that it builds character and that it looks cool- she keeps telling me that I need to grow up and stop acting and talking like a kid. I've since gotten back into racing full force and take the sport quite serious- promote safe riding as much as possible- the reality is that the fun really only lasts as long as your'e well and alive- and pads are a small price to pay!

Today I learned that butt boarding is not always a good idea. At least, not when your being towed into a 11% grade hill by a truck. Let me elaborate. My friends and I were filming a Jackass'esqe video for a spanish project and we thought some insane speed buttboarding could be cool. We drove to a large hill in the UCSC campus in upper Santa Cruz County, California. We hooked up a waterskiing towrope to my pals truck. He started pulling me along on my friends nice concaved Sector Nine 46"er. I guess he accelerated to about 20mph before I dropped the line and started going down the steep hil. My speed kept climing until I started getting *extremely* violent speedwobbles about 70 feet into the hill. I set my right food down for drag but WHAM! Next thing I know I'm rolling on some grass. I guess my foot created to much friction and yanked me off my board. I suppose I just flew over the curb, rolled over the sidewalk and into some guys nice, soft lawn. Somehow, believe it or not, I escaped with *almost* no scrapage, just a really sore elbow, a cracked helmet, and a lil' lump on my head. I sure am happy I was wearing that shell, because boy, my head would be a cracked watermellon without that thing. I learned my lesson: Never get towed into a steep hill while buttboarding without a helmet.

I got two words for you, Andy Scott: Non-stick bandages! (oops, is that technically three words?) When I had a major crash (see the archives: February of '99. there are two pics of my arms and legs) I used the cotton gauze and paid the price when my scab formed into the gauze and I had to rip off the scab in order to get the gauze off. Yeeouch!

Oh yeah, the other day I was tearin' up the ol' mobile home park road at about three MPH when a rock ran under my wheel! I was violently thrown from my board and I had to walk a few feet to recover. Good thing I was wearing shoes on BOTH feet this time. Whew, close calls like that really make me appreciate life.

In my early days of longboarding(about 6 months ago) I was a bit cocky and a bit brainless. It was a hot day and I was pretty sweaty walking up the hill for about the 6th or 7th time. So being the dumbass I am I took of my top. My mate and I had a bit of a joke saying "wouldn't hurt if I fell off!???" Well to keep a long story short I lost all the skin on the bottom of my right arm, massive hip graze through my "not so new now" boardshorts and a chunk out of my ankle. I spent the next month ripping of bandages that got stuck to my half melted skin.

My last crash was about a month ago, trying the cyberslalom on my new fluid stinger. I was pushing to improve my speed and on one run I hit a cone head on, it got trapped under my board and superman. I scraped both knees and my elbows. A month later I'm running cones again, this time soem big offsets on a fairly steep hill. Try to cut the offsets too sharp and do a big sideways slide, this time I'm wearing full pads and don't feel a thing.

Well I guess this is the place to brag about your latest crash. And since I'm cooped up inside recovering I'll share.
It was last week, I guess Thursday. I had just finished exams and was looking to get a quick relief with a buddy who is graduating. I was towing into this short little ride when I let go at about 25mph. I had failed to notice that there was a lawn truck parked at the top of the hills drop off in the right lane. It did not seem to pose any problem at the time so I carved out a few turns to slow a little. I was about twenty yards away and I started to make my way into the left lane when I noticed two cars were in the opposite lane heading my way. I realized that they were going to pass the car at the same time so I decided to make for the grass on the left. Well, I was going too bloody fast to turn sharp enough to clear the rolling curb, the grass median, and the ensuing sidewalk,to make it to the safety of the lawn. I then made my nearly fatal mistake. I decided to ride up the rolling curb and through the grass and then hopefully onto the sidewalk. I had riden through grass before so this seemed feasible at the time. Well the grass was deep as hell! My board stopped, and I was sent head first into the air, superman style. Witnesses say that my head whipped off the concrete like it was made of rubber and filled with air. You could probably argue that it is filled with air as this all took place without a helmet. So I ended up with a concussion, slight memory lapse, an eye literally the size of a basball, a left torsoe littered with scabs, a facefull of road rash, and one hell of a learned lesson. Wear a f'ing helmet.
After a few trips to several doctors, I was relieved to find out that I have not sustained any permanent damage. So I feel the need to point out the funnier moments of the incident.
1.I did manage to hit on the attractive young girl who pulled over to help me out. My friend was trying to convice me that I needed to go to the hospital. I replied with "it's cool, we just met, we're just going to hang out for a little while" compliments of my concussion. I don't remember that, but it must of been funny seeing the blood gush out of my head while trying to game on a girl.
2.the gardeners managed to pack into the truck within seconds and split the scene to avoid any trouble (thanks alot) (they were immigrants, probaly greencardless)
3.Quote: "Blood, sweat, and tears make the grass grow green." (my response when my friend asked me if I was o.k. after the crash. Again compliments of the concussion.)

Hey there all longboarders just fix,n up some recent grazes.I made the glove with the slider on it and my slides started improving big time ,i managed to pulll one off which was over 50ft long, with doing these my glove was wearing out fast and the little piece of plastic fell off.So there i am keen as fuck to re bomb so i think i will just scape on the glue part which was left (big mistake)when i planted the hand on the ground at max speed the fuk,n thing griped instead of sliding ,i mean it really griped and riped me off the board fully. So there i was doing a coleman using my body only,i slide for a bit then the tumbling started, ouch it stings. My only protection was this shity glove which made me stack in the 1st place. After dusting myself off i saw the funny side i only wish some one else saw it so they could have a laugh as well.

This weekend after our race was postponed we stayed to practise(ALL OF US) thats where the situation of 20 skaters and a car comes into play,
all other skaters piled into the car, I was unvoluntarily forced to hold onto the back of the car, I pulled forwards to grab onto the window and told one of the guys int he car to take my helmet up to stop it from mysting as I said that the nose of my Speedboard got sucked under the wheel of the car and shot out back wards into kents shin
The car was going slowly cause there where skaters on the back so I jumped and ran it out kent did something similar but after wards he started sqeeling in pain and grabbing his leg. I thought." NO I caused kent to break his leg mash his ankle or something"
After a while of kent hoping around on the road He calmed down and said,
Jasa You know like the first impact of being kicked in the shin REALLY HARD(in best cape coloured accident)
He was fine after that, except for the ever noticable
big blue lump on his shin

SORRY KENT

Ok I was in full tuck ripping down this fairly steep and super long road when i got the wobbles. I am not an experienced slider and have 74a wheels so a slide was a bot risky I decided that heading toward the grass and rolling on to the grass was the safest option at the time. So I come up along the gutter and just as I was going to jump the wobbles got too intense and i lost it most of my body made it over but the back of my head caught the gutter with only a beanie to protect it!

The beanie stopped me from cutting my head but I had a ringing for at least a week.

I get a helmet this weekend.

Walked away feeling sore but extremely lucky.

For some perverse reason, these stories make me want to go out and skate.

In order to qualify as a crash story, let me say that when I broke my foot trying to bail into a soft grassy bank on a scary slope last summer, beer consumption may have been a factor.

ok get this. when i'm in sixth grade at school on the playground. there is a metal folding chair. lots of kids are around. i run from about 20 feet back and try to jump the chair. well, i don't clear it. the MF'ing top of the chair smashes into my left nut and the whole chair folded up when that happened. my nut came down full force on that thing. i was on the ground about 10 minutes sobbing and yelling obscenities (at a christian school on top of it). i get helped to the bathroom to check myself out and i see blood in my undies and my nut is swollen and red. people asked if i was alright but i was a kid and felt ashamed so i said yeah. well now my nut is still kinda messed up, if you felt it you could tell it's not in one piece really. i'll probably get cancer and die because i've always been too afraid to get it looked at. i get phantom pains in it sometimes still.

oh yeah, and yesterday i drank a bunch of beer and tequila and was skating around a parking lot. i don't know what the hell i did but the board went out from under me and i fell on my side and scraped the hell out of my thigh and a little on the side of my knee. maybe i should get thigh pads? i'm limping for a few weeks i bet.
