Thomas,That's one nice looking ride!Well done, and I like the light set-up,as I've been known to go stupidly fast at night. How much does the light system cost, and what's it weigh? It's gotta be better than the head-band mounted lights I use.Any info would be a huge help. Thanks!

Thomas, when I first read the word 'lights', I must admit I laughed. But when I had a look it turned out you did a really great job. It's probably safer too, when skating at night on roads with other traffic. The board itself looks really hi-tech, nice finishing.

hey herbn, what was that wood that you were talking about a few months ago? it was like aircraft wood or something? i ride mountain boards, and am going to make my own deck and fiberglass it. i wanted to use some kind of plywood that has little flex, and is really light. maybe not too expensive either.
thanks, rob

Hey Thomas, that is some wild looking board! What type of materials did you build it with? And how do you power the lights? The workmanship looks real nice from the photos... good job... HR

Hello !!! I made a board of my own which is kind of unusual... 1m50 long, 35 cm wide, lights, etc...
U can have a look at it at: http://www.multimania.com/t2j/longb/mylbgale.htm
I'll be pleased to have feedback about your opinion on this board, because i'd like to create a new board with a different shape, and more easy to ride in turns especialy... Have fun !!!

I designed(doodled) a clamp/press made out of Aircraft Aluminum bar stock(very straight stuff) to glue 1/2 inch wide strips of various hardwoods next to each other, using the factory milled surface of the wood as the glueing seam, beltsanding top and bottom should be accurate enough , a fiberglass layer before shaping should be easy enough(its a bitch on a shaped board)Gotta order the aluminum though.

Young and cool Steph? Blimey...I must be ancient then, I used to/started skating about 15 years ago, started surfing about 10 years ago and only started Longskating about 4 or 5 years ago... Man, in the scheme of things I'm a relative youngster around these parts...hahaha, pardner, yee-haa...check the ages of some of these guys, man, they're old! (only joking brothas!) But remember you can still be old and cool... You just constructing a deck? What kind of applications are ya going to do with it? i.e. Downhill, Carving...etc. I recently finished a hardwood 36" deck (not strictly longboard), fitted with US9 trucks KRYPTO 82a's and ABECS - works a treat, real 'snappy' and slides well (stiff deck kinda helps), but totally unsuited to Downhill...you gotta choose the right kinda deck (materials - marine ply, 8 ply, hardwood...etc) depending on what you're gonna do with it.

I'm taking a woodworking class at Kent State University and we have to do research on a product made out of wood. I chose skateboards (I use to skate about 8 years agowhen I was young and cool) anyway if anyone can forward me info. on how a typical skateboard is made and why certain techniques are used, or what makes a board faster, eaiser to work with etc. I would appreciate it-thanks.

Hey RooX, If you throw some fiberglass on that board then the length won't be an issue. On my boards I use 2 layers on the bottom and 1 on top. I weigh quite a bit more than you so you could probably get away with one and one. You might also consider some underside spline reinforcements. If you want to see pictures on how I do this, check www.hugh308.homestead.com good luck, HR

just made an enourmous cruizer. it's 48"x14"!! that 14" of width really helps carve. i have to be careful, though, because carving too hard can result in tipping over. anyhow, it is a sweet, sweet ride, plenty of wood to absorb vibrations (3/4" birch ply), with a stunning wheelbase (in the 36" range). it's terrific.

Birch seems to be considerably spongyer and I know its easy to chip,It may make a fine cruising board ,but It feels kind of vague(twisty?)for going fast.Next up on my agenda is a vertical laminate or a foam/fiberglass lay-up,anybody know what weight of foam to use?my only source so far only has the heavier weights in quater inch thick pieces, that would be expensive and probabely risky.

Hello there guys. I also make my own longboards. I like to use marine grade plywood. I soak the wood and use bending jigs to make the kick tail and a concave down the center of the deck. Check out my site to see how I do this. I have lots of pictures of the building process. It is in the "How to section" Let me know what you think (I am new to this whole web page thing!)
