Shapeshifter,
I won't be able to make it to the board building demo, I'm on the west coast. I recently regripped by longboard. This was my first time doing a custom grip tape job. It actually turned out pretty cool. I'll post some pics here pretty soon.

where should i start... the mounting hardware has to be the correct length or it could damage the urethane, a simple scratch would eventually develop into a crack in time. the inconvenient location of the bolts near the pivot/tendon makes it difficult to thread the nut and virtually impossible if there's any misalignment of the holes.
you can't use risers because it would weaken the turn arrestors though because they are there you really don't need risers in the first place.
no matter which hole pattern is employed (old school or new) the relationship of the axle to the holes does not correlate with most standard trucks so basically it has a mounting pattern all it's own.
but the most critical issue is that the axle washers provided are useless since the existing bearing face is soft and no matter how many you stack end to end they just wind up disappearing into the urethane.
not that big of a deal really... i like em for what they are but they do take a bit to get them to a functional state.

the uptrucks are pretty smooth trucks with strong rtc (return to center) love em for riding but they can be a maintenance nightmare... also like the fact i don't have to decide on a setting.
the deck was a build challenge where i required myself to use the the standard roarockit 40" pintail kit. i removed one ply and added foam in its place. the polyurethane foam was blown in place. on the next one, i plan on adding more shape (and foam) in order to get more thickness without additional wood (or weight). the marbling is just some tie-dye grip tape from the 70's...
here's some more pictures of the decks maiden voyage and my first time at the park this year.
there were no changes made to the kit's molds other than bending them to shape the wood sections before final assembly where the two halves were clamped together and the foam inserted (which isn't possible under vacuum).

What foam do you use, or is that too secret squirel!!

nice one munchh! here's what popped out of my rockit bag last week...
it's a 6 ply maple rocker, with rolled down edges. there is a 3/16" foam micro-core which is recessed for impact resistance and sandwiched within a clam shell of 3 plies on top and 3 below - thought it would give it the thicknes of a 9 ply in the center and the stiffness of a 7 or 8 ply without all that extra weight.... instead it feels more like a very flexy 5 ply with the strength of a seven. there's a generous kick, nose fit for hang'n and with the 22" wheel base, it has a stiff yet snappy feel which is totally enhanced by its lightness... this board was made for slashing! powered by the 40" X 9" roarockit pin tail kit. i like to call it the "one like no other".

Just put the 1st layers of my new slalom deck in the press, this thing is the best money i've spent in ages.
I'm going for 2x 3mm ply birch, witha oak 0.6 veneer between and another on the bottom for looks, mellow concave at just where my feet want it, 29x9.5" no kicks. Its the 1st time using 'Titebond III' waterproof glue, so could be good?

I am launching a new line of products for my company. Specifically designed rails for Skate & Snow Boards. They are different then the others on the market I cant believe how much they charge for a boring rail taht does nothing and the ones you can by at department stores are too thin and eventually break with extended use. MY rail works against that downward weight. It comes in two styles Round and Square, both 80" in length. The beginner rail can adjust from 8" - 14" and the more advanced rail can range from 14" - 25" in height. Anyone needs more information please call me at 416-752-9393.

sandboard conversion

it's really easy actually.
first take the wheels off, cause you can ruin your bearings... then take the trucks off, because they get in the way... depending on the shape of your deck you may have to remove the grip tape too...
but most important replace the skateboard deck with a proper sandboard or maybe you could get away with a converted snowboard... because it just wouldn't work anyway!!!
there, now you're all set to go pound some sand.
once you've got your sandboard conversion... reassemble your skateboard and enjoy it for what it is.

the new board is a "mini" 37 inches log 31 inches true wheelbase(axle to axle) i'm using yella bones bushings and they feel pretty loose,a bit tightere in the back the front sort of hyperactively vibrates when you smack a wheel. It's a sweet small hill board with purty good speed control,i'm slowly safely working up to feeling the edge of possible wobbles, havn't gotten them yet. It's an interesting quandry of sorts,s 40 degree turning geometry real loose ,those above mentioned measurements, with a quick flexy board stiffness, hhmmmmm. The trucks have no ,none, steering slop, they are actually a bit firm with out bushings, i mean not when standing on ,but they don't just flop to the side with no bushings ,but they pivot smoothly. The board is low, toe drag is easy to do at slow speeds, and my feet need to be pretty nicely centered when carving tight flat ground turns, i think the bulldogtownish, bevel i sand into the rail is actually functional.

sweet,,at a 40 degree turning angle, their geometry falls right between seismic and randal dh,you get the loose feel of pushing pretty straight down on the bushings,(like randals'dh) but a little more swerve/responsiveness. Comparison to other trucks is very hard though, they're much lower and they are a double pivot design, pivot bushings on both side of the bushings. I'm gonna get rid of the aluminum kingpins, though they're minimally stressed and i think they'd probabely hold up,equipment failure is no fun. I got a little play in one wheel, got go back and make another axle there,it's not as bad as a regular axle but it's gotta go.

plywood is a real easy choice as solid wood might break up too readily. hdpe is really hard to trim if you don't get the first cut just right. another workable material is cellular polyethylene one brand being azek trimboards.
happy hunting.
