Adam's right about the teeth on a hacksaw being too fine. It probably would work, but it would take you a lot longer to cut it. Other options include of course a portable jigsaw with the right blade. They go through that stuff like butter. If you don't have one, I've used a small crosscut finishing wood saw, the ones that you can pick up at places like Home Depot for about six bucks. You won't be able to round the corners like with a coping saw, but if square corners bother you, you can lop them off at an angle. What you'll find is the stuff cuts real easy and you don't need fancy tools to work with it.

I use a coping saw with a coarse blade. I think most hacksaw blades would be too fine for the soft plastic, plus a coping saw lets you cut rounded corners if you want.

I'll back up Chris. My favorite pads are my Rollerblade wrist guards. They have new ones that are very light and almost invisible that are worth a look at. But they aren't the ones I speak of. The ones I like the most are bigger but have a great design. First of all, they are more of a glove. No finger protection, but there is a thick leather plam with big plastic nubs to keep the skin on your hands and out of the pavement. The wrist protection comes from the back. Good design and they actually look kind of tough .
I bought them a few years ago so I'm not sure if they still make them.

Much as this pains me to say. The Rollerblade pads, wrist
guards, knee, and elbow pads may be what you are looking
for. They are decent looking, lightweight, and probably
most important unbulky. They also do not use little leather
patches like some pads wich makes them washable, kind of
immportant considering how much you sweat wearing them.

Any good suggestions for light pads and helmets that aren't butt ugly? I am new to the sport, (And one of only 4 longboarders in a town of 50,000 so I get a lot of attention). I don't want to look like a geek because everyone in this frigging town looks at me, nobody even knows what a longboard is. Ahhh.

Hey am I realy a big name in longboarding ... I think not. I agree hill bombing is crazy without a helmet but .... my excuse is I have been skating for 31 years now and have never had a head injury. Why i here you ask, well I always used to wear a helmet, still do when I am vert skating and have done a form of jujutsu for about 29 years which has a lot of rolling in the system and I have always been able to roll of of trouble even at high speed. Notice I always use wrist guards and crash pants under the shorts for those post roll sliding moments. Anyway it's all eggmans fault he kept hounding me to put pictures up ... more helmetless pictures out tonight by the way :-)

I never played football, but I heard there was some kind of tailbone protector that players can wear. I was thinking of getting one for snowboarding, but I have never seen one. Can anyone add to this?

What immediately came to my mind was the motorcycle accessory companies which sell that kevlar spinal protection stuff. I can't think of any names now, but you may get lucky if you add the phrase "motorcycle protection gear" or similar to your web search.

Having spotters on sidestreets is a beautiful thing when
going 52mph. Me reasonous comes from an attempt thwarted
by two vehicles in large Ford trucks. Only Hampy and Bri
know how great it looks going down with only your down
sessions jacket and helmet to love you.
