i'm still very much a skeptic of gluing Uhmw as far as i know uhmw is very inert,it does not react with anything,i believe in lacing the plastic on to the gloves,around fingers ,through holes in the palm,channels for holes keep the laces from getting grinded,oh well i should have copies of this post,a just post it weekly.The way my gloves are made i'm not worried about them coming loose,at all.

i made some sliding gloves with cutting board and attached them to my leather gloves with black silicion(the stuff they use to attach windows to cars) i then put shoe goo on the edges....the cutting board still does'nt stick....one glove, its about half peeled off...how can i make this work?

Well, I am finally learning how to slide and the velcro sliding gloves are holding up very well and doing their job.
Shoo goo holds well for the glove and contact cement is working great on the pads... HR

My experience is that Protec skate helmets (cut above the ear) were good enough in the '80s but are useless now. Go into a skateboard shop, look the different sizes of the Protec over and again try to say you will feel safe wearing them. If you check them out now, you'll notice that the company now uses just one size of plastic shell and forms the different sizes by just varying the amount of padding in them. If you wear a size-S, they look safe enough, but larger than that and we're talking a concussion waiting to happen. Best to just spend the extra $10-$15 and get a Flyaway helmet.

as far as im concerned the protacs work just as well ove eatn it a great deal of times , going straight to my mug and it has held up well. however i am concerned for the rating system. shoot dread , bommel ,were all wearing it . now EDI stipulates it must have the snell rating but doesnt the Grav games count as an EDI event . was there an eception made becuase they are dreggs ridders. so if i were to race this season with the protack . would i be aloud to race .????????

but you started making improvements,the day you were born,so the value goes up.i'm a very guilty ,non-helmet guy just yesterday i bailed on my downhill bike FAR jumps down a grassy hill,crosswind messed me up,once again no head impact,but a very sprained hand,i continued to ride, and it swelled later,today it's real puffy.

With this talk of helmets I must mention:
I personally wouldn't go with any helmet that isn't snell (at least B95) approved for bombing. Protec full-face helmets are not snell approved, most Vigor full-face ones are. Look for the Snell Memorial Foundation sticker inside the helmet, or check http://www.smf.org for approved list. For higher speeds, look for helmets that are motorcycle rated (M95 or M2000) by Snell.
Retire your helmet after any crash where you hit your head, even if there is no visible damage. The crash helmet is supposed to deform upon absorbtion of the impact energy, and you might not see all the internal deformations that have weakened the helmet.
When buying a helmet, be more concerned about safety rather than price. As the motto goes: "Buy a $50 helmet if you have a $50 head."

Best price I found is $2.50 per tube at K-mart... Most decent sporting good stores should carry it. Expect to pay $5 per tube at Big-5... HR

I'm hoping to make a set of sliding gloves in the next week or so, and I wanted to know where I could pick up a tube of shoe goo, and how much the stuff retails for. Also, I've heard talk that some types of plastic cutting boards work better than others, is there a way to tell which ones are the best? Are they all UHMW? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Newbie,
I have tried putting shoe goo on my golves and sliding with them, and I liked it. I have slide glves now that only have the plastic on the palm, but I put shoe goo on the fingers so that when I go around a turn, I can put my fingers down with no worries if I need to. It just wears out kinda fast.
I also have "bmx" helmet that I use for stand-up. It's a pro-tec like the ones VanBommel and Dread used in the games. It is a one crasher for sure. The reason I like it is because it is so small, not fitting, but in shape and profile. I used it a the dump road and found that it was much easier for me to reel people in for a draft. My old full-face moto-cross helmet was very big and bulky, so it caught a lot of wind. You be the judge though, later.

go to www.pricepoint.com they have a full face Bell BMX helmet (one crash only b/c of foam interior) on sale for under $50, which is an awesome deal.
ps: thanks to whoever posted about this helmet a while ago, it sure was helpful.

i'll stay with this helmet, i had to make a trip to the bikers shop but i have to save a LOT of money to improve my gear(around 550$)
thats the problen on buying thins in here, and if y get them through internet i will pay more on th S&H and duities and taxes than the merchandise itself.

I use the wedge helmet for luge riding... the angle of the chin area of snowmobile helmets (it exposes the chin when you stand up, but provides a superior view when chin is tucked) is very good for luge but very bad for stand up.
For standup I am using one of the Bell full face BMX helmets... the Vigor Vamoose is a fine choice in a stand up helmet too. Only thing with the BMX helmets is that they are truly one crash helmets. The foam doesn't bounce back to shape!
Max protection for minimum price would be in a full faced motorcycle helmet.
If your planning on going fast be sure to get a full face. A face sheild is a very good idea too, but I don't know of a company that sells a BMX type helmet with a sheild.
Danny Connor mfg'd a face sheild for his light weight helmet... had some "body work" done on it and it looks real nice. Maybe he'll share some info!
If you are looking at the wedge for luge (only)... subterfuge carries them in the $130 range. Ask for Tim...
If your looking for a BMX helmet they should be available on the BMX sites or your local bike shop may be able to order them. Motorcycle helmets, same thing... HR

I use shoo goo on the fingers of my luge gloves to protect the leather and extend it's life.
The stuff really helps my fingers stick to the road too! I don't think it would do well as a sliding surface... HR

I found a very thin(posterboard thickness) cutting board at wal-mart the other day. It seems to hold up to a knife pretty good, so I was wondering if this would be a good idea to make a good sliding glove? I think that I could add more layers in the critical areas like the palms, and maybe even add a layer to the knuckles just in case. How much do sliding pads usually wear down? I never use coleman gloves because I live in Utah and the middle finger is as necessary as turn signals. I also like to grab the rail in the crouch position. Any help would be appreciated.
