Hey Dan@csu, just fyi, you can flop the hanger on a randal over and loose over a 1/4 inch of ride height. Not good it you grind and reduces wheel clearance but great for downhill boards.

Hey Snake, did you check out the landyachtz site for the JimZ's? I've been trying to contact him too, I can let you know when I hear back, if you would like. A couple of things, If you are going to be using a big wheel(90+)and sliding alot, get the 10mm axles! Or at least make sure to get the heat treated 8mm axle. I just got some GW Alpines in, the one cool thing about them is the unrestricted bushing seat. You could put some BIG bushings in 'em. It will be interesting to see how they hold up!

The Alpine reminds me of a Variflex Connection; though I can see them "quoting" the original Phoenix in the hanger styling too. It "looks" like it might be squirrely. Kinda top heavy. I guess they know what they're doing...

randal clone? ok I meant randal-esque. buddy, thanks for the gullwing history. but in terms of longboarding, randal will always be considered the pioneer.

Actually I would call randals a clone of the Gullwing design and Speed Spring design of the 77 time frame. Or possibly the variflex connection truck from the 81 time frame.
the alpines have been out for year or so. They are a revamped cruiser model, that did not go over so well. Are they a randal clone? possibly in appearance. But, looking back thru truck designs with reverse kingpin design, who's copying who?
Once pigs fell out of favor in the early 90's, gullwing struggled hard to compete with popsickle stick cookie cutter trucks. The ads weren't there, and the old vert pros were dropping off.
gullwing of the 70's and 80's was a definite presence, and there are still diehard gullwing riders (like myself). they are struggling now, in a market that has really redefined product usage, due to lack of history and new kids on the block. thats too bad. Maybe they can slide back in with the M1 truck.

thanks 4 the tip, i prefer the deck to be lower because i like to to small stand up slides of it and it feels more secure that way; also because i don't like pushing off on anything higher than it needs to be, granted i ride my evo more than any other deck so i'm probrably used to bein real low. maybe i'll save some bucks (for a timeship helmet...) and try your indy solution!

Dan: Try wedging the indys +10 deg and super soft white or soft blue khiro bushings.
Why do you need the deck low?

i'm tryin to set up my timeline again that i haven't been on in awhile. i have indys on it now because the randal 150's put it way too hight off the ground. what trucks are low profile and short like the indys, but turn better like the randals? i was thinking about seismics, are those short or tall? thanks!

carver fronts

Paul, do you mean CX's or C7's? Radically different design even within the Carver line, but in either case I wouldn't advise mounting the same Carver front in back as well. I've tried it with CX's, and although it still 'works' its just too carvy and has almost no forward-moving power. The Carver concept is to have a stiff, standard truck in back to power-off, but not turn much, and the front truck does almost all the carving. The diff between CX and a normal/standard truck is the CX kingpin points directly upward perpendicular to the baseplate, and is in *front* of the hangar axle -- so the hangar swivels behind the kingpin. Simple, unique design. I dig 'em!!
I've tried to explain the C7 more on my gear page in the trucks section. Lot of moving parts there! Very surfy...

What is the difference between a carver front truck, and a normal truck? How do they work, and if would want your board to have the same geometry front and back, could you put one on the front and back? Also, what are airflows?

Fluitt is rereleasing the 1st Gen splitfires I think, which run off a RTX base as well, different for the current split but very similar to the original

Keep in mind that Airflow uses the same geometry as an offset RTX and Splitfire, at least the current version, uses a modified Randal geometry. Choose your weapon.
