Truck Review
If it ain't broken...
On 7/1/2006 David V. wrote in from United States  (24.119.nnn.nnn)

For the past couple of months, I've been debating whether or not to go with some different trucks on my new deck. With all the talk about this truck and that truck, turning radius, etc, etc, I just couldn't make up my mind. Well, I went on-line to order my new set-up and found, to my initial disappointment, that none of the new and improved trucks were available on the site I buy from. So, I ordered the Sector 9 Bomb Hills deck, had them throw on some RII 180's with angled risers (1/4-1/2") and Sector 9 72mm Nineball wheels. Now I haven't gotten out there with a measuring tape yet, but I'm turning my new 46" deck around in less room than it takes to park my car--width wise!! I'm no expert on trucks, by any stretch of the imagination, but I say Randals can definitely hold their own in this age of re-invention. Just my two cents...

Hmmm, Very nice work!

Has there been any kingpin or pivot breakage issues? If there is, and IF it's possible, TWO pivot points opposite of each other would not only practically prevent that but also make for a more precise exact steering.

Nice Job- Paul Howard

Revenge At Buckeye
On 6/29/2006 MC Hammer Head- Downhillbillies.org wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Kenny,
I picked up a set with my visit to the swag pile and am planning on mounting them on a 58" Wicked Wonder longboard. Anyone out there had experience on a board this long with Revenge trucks? It's my cruiser to the store, office, and just carving around the neighborhood.

Thanks for all of the swag and the connection with Revenge.

Get your Revenge today !!!!!!!!
On 6/29/2006 Kenny Mollica wrote in from United States  (68.252.nnn.nnn)

Holy Turning Radius!!!! I was hustling swag for the Buckeye Open and called Revenge Trucks out of the blue. They looked cool and had a nice finish, and swag is swag.

I talked to Robbie O., the owner and it turned out that I was riding with two Revenge team riders at the Indian School the week before. These guys were carving like freaks down the Indian School ditch and turning the 44" Dewey Weber longboards like they were tight slalom boards with a Radikal front truck !!!!!

Robbie was so cool and sent us 10 sets of Revenge Trucks for the Buckeye Open slalom race. Most people had not seen them and were focused on picking slalom decks and products they knew and trusted. I told the local boys to grab some Revenge trucks quick and they did.

On Sunday, two of the racers had mounted up the Revenge trucks on Longboards they also won (we had a ton of swag !!!). Well, I got my first taste of the "Longboard Revenge-olution". Those trucks are freaky-turny. Plus, they have a wheelbite limit so you can crank without worrying about wheelbite.

We dont longboard too much here in Ohio because of the lack of hills. With most trucks, you must be hauling ass to get a longboard to turn. Not with Revenge. They turn great at low speeds and have the shortest radius turns of any longboard truck on the market. They are sick. They turn like a sports car and you can't get wheel bite.

Thank you Robbie O. from all of us that were smart enough to pick the Revenge Trucks for our longboards. I could tell you were the real deal on the phone and after seeing Mike Kresky (spelling?) the "Manimal" at the Indian School I knew I had to get a pair of those trucks.

I am Italian and love revenge, but those trucks take it to a new level. Thanks again.

Nature Boy

Holey turn
On 6/28/2006 Derik wrote in from Germany  (193.7.nnn.nnn)

My 57 inch Ed Economy with Holeys has the same turning radius as my 44 inch Bahari with Randals 180. The front Truck of the Ed E is wedged +3 deg (so ist has 48). The other trucks are just rised.
(I think it would be a good idea to establish a kind of standard measure for the turning radius, so one can compare trucks better, before buying.)

variable steering geometry
On 6/27/2006 Fluitt wrote in from United States  (71.212.nnn.nnn)

Don,
Thanks for the proto pics of the trucks. I've drawn that design a few times myself, but as you noted, there is a big difference between drawing it, and actually making it. Good job. You've maintained a constant position of the axle while the steering geometry changes, orbits around the axle position, that's key I think. Peter did the same thing with the PVD, though with more effort to change geometry. I look forward to trying them someday.

wheelbite?
NADA

you all still remember me telling that those trucks on the pics are the protos?
it's good to see that there a re a few folks out there who also did some truck-constructions,from what i can read here.
well, wait, there's a difference...we are bringing them to the market!!!!!!!!!!!!

and yes, there's another difference, these trucks will go through the battering by top world racers, once they approve there's really no need for any flimflam anymore.they already went through our hands and have been tested thoroughly enough by very ! experienced riders.
the truck will be available end of summer,it will surface at the worlds and it will be ridden at the worlds by some top pro racers.
after that we have enough input on any kind of desired improvement to launch the product.
again,SK8KINGS will be the source for america.
they will put out an order deadline for each batch of trucks being produced and a delivery deadline also.
so when you decide to go for a truck or a set of those trucks you know when they arrive without any excuses for any kind of delay.
that's how we work and that's what you-the customer-will appreciate.

If you tell them you eat and drive a lot, maybe you can get more money for drinking! Radikal trucks are still the best!

very interesting...that looks like clearence to me,i've built a narrow low truck like that (without the adjustability though) and it probabely does clear. For slalom courses i guess it's ok but that kingpin to ground clearence ...ouch! if you thought wheelbite on the deck was sudden, try kingpin to concrete, it's also more unexpected, wheelbite is done while steering you my kind of expect that your board may not have clearence, a lifted block of concrete, ouch again ,i speak from personal experience. I've doodled trucks exactly like that but they always looked cumbersome and are tremendously unusual to manufacture, i guess unless you have access to multi access cam machines, i have ideas that look better but they kind of incorpate that type of ajustability into the baseplate to deck junction, i don't think it's anything that's gonna rule the world, how important is that kind of adjustment, really.

Dave, it looks to me like the baseplate cut outs might help avoid wheel bite and I bet the final production units will have thinner metal overall. I'm looking forward to the front version.

G.O.G. Trucks & Randal Baseplates
On 6/26/2006 Dave Mitchell wrote in from United States  (206.103.nnn.nnn)

I like the idea, but from the photos there doesn't appear to be enough clearance between the inside edge of the wheel and the baseplate. Not a big fan of wheel bite.

Randal 180's (for a long as I can remember) have both new and old school patterns, as do the 150's. The Randal DH trucks are limited to the old school pattern.

Tricks or tips for Randals?
On 6/26/2006 David V. wrote in from United States  (143.183.nnn.nnn)

PSR,

You sound like you know what you're talking about (re: Seismics)! Do you have any tricks or tips for riding on Randals? I own a Landyachtz Evo Timebomb deck and I'll be taking possession of a S9 Bomb hills deck here pretty soon. Both boards are set up with RII 180's, and I can't say I'm unhappy with their performance so far, it's just that I'm always on the lookout for a different ride. Thanks.

Adam's Seismic queries
On 6/26/2006 PSR wrote in from United States  (216.66.nnn.nnn)

Adam, go with the 45* bases if you want quick-turning. Add wedges if you want it quicker. Pay close attention to the Springs you choose, go with lighter ones for more 'quickness' in turn initiation. Example; I'm 170 Lbs., and use Red Springs at the rear, Light Green or Bone up front for 'freecarve' cruising. An axle width of 180mm? Depends on the board width, and whether your wheels are wide (ala Flashbacks) or center-set (ala Grippins). Strive to match the width of the truck/wheel combo to the deck. This gets you better leverage to get quicker turns. Too wide at the axles will slow the turn a bit, too skinny will make the ride 'nervous'.

The only other 'spring' truck out there that can out-turn a tuned-in Seismic is Original. They're nice, very turny, but maybe not as versatile or adjustable as Seismics. If you're doing steep descents or just really like turning Uber-Tight arcs, then the Originals may be a better set-up. Wedge these only a very little or not-at-all, as they're already pretty squirrelly.
