Adam,
If you want to see the tracker/turner set up from the day, look at ss.com in the "do you still ride your turner" thread. You can see my setup which has remained in that specific state since about 1978 give or take.
Good luck, Marty

I just ran a Bennett Pro on the 5.5' "even-tighter-after-race" at Bicknell and it worked great. Bennetts are still perfectly viable tight slalom trucks. The key for me is to use less wedging than normal. My truck has an 8mm axle, extenders, trimmed Stims and a few extra lower washers to keep the stack height right.

Dule kingpin

Someone asked about the dule kingpin truks, and I think they were called hydra(something) trucks. I have been looking at trucks a lot lately and I came up with a desgin that I think will work for a truck that has what I would call an increasing geometry, a truck that would be very stable in the straitaways yet be able to carve like hell. It would have no turn in the first 0 to 2 or 4mm and then beyond that begin to turn like a bombing truck and even further it would begin to tighten up to the tightest turn you could make. In addition to that the feedback of the return would lighten up just a bit in stead of getting harder as you go into a turn. It would be a bit different, not huge, complex, or very heavy. Am I the only one who wants something like this? Dose anyone see a problem with a truck that would do exactly that? I hope to start on this soon. Oh, and I just got some Revenge trucks, and I like them about as much as my truks from Original! (yes that's a good thing.) What brings this up is that if the hydra______ trucks had a tight kingpin and a stable kingpin, a hard bushing on the thight and a soft on the stable, you may almost have something that would almost do what I had in mind, but my idea is very different in desgin. Sorry to take up so much space.

70s trucks...

Bennett trucks are still used by some slalom enthusiasts today, so you couldn't go wrong there. Otherwise, yeah, the Gullwings (which aren't all that, to be honest, though they look great), small-pivot Trackers, younameit.

Adam,
Gull Wing Split Axles were hot, the gold ones even more so.
They are a bit unconventional for modern techniques. Perhaps an aquired taste eh?
Good Luck,
Marty

I have a question......what were the top notch slalom trucks back in the 70's? sort of like the radikal of the day.......i know radikal's were out then but they are VERY limited in number, so what was second best? I am looking for something of similar width to that of the fulltrack
bennetts? but are they too skinny for a summerski?
all help is much appreciated

the front one looks really cool, i guess the back is just an acquired taste, form following function, the shallpw geometry. I guess if it had a grindking type of kingpin for clearence,it's hard to tell,do they still have the oversized kingpin? double ball joints?

Brendan, could you by chance be referring to the Sidewinder 2 trucks by Gullwing(?). I think I saw those on the Hydra complete from Sector9--they have dual kingpin design or some such thing. Hope this helps.

I don't know the width of the Tunnel wheels, or more importantly how fat they will stick out from their outer bearing. But I'm thinking an 8" wide truck would be about right to give some wheel hang on an 8.5" deck with those Tunnel wheels. So...if he wants the old type of Tracker, then the Ex-Tracks are 8" wide (axle). If that's going to be too wide, Tracker also makes a line of trucks called Dart and Axis and in both of those truck lines they have a 129 width that is more like 7 3/4". (you can get dart and axis in 8" wide too).

I am piecing together a board for my son and need some assistance in the truck department. The deck he wants is 8.5" wide and he likes a little bit of wheel hang, so what size trucks do I need to get? This is an old school set-up and he wants Tracker trucks with Tunnel Rock wheels if that helps. Thanks for the help.

Fultracks, Midtracks, RT-S, and Dart model Hangers will all fit inside your aggro baseplates. As long as you have a standard bushing or close to the stock bushing height in it. Taller or shorter bushings will affect the way the truck goes together.
