Truck Review
re: wedged randals
On 10/3/2006 fitz wrote in from (220.236.nnn.nnn)

Hey sven, I ride a 40" swift from curve(now subsonics) and had the exact same problem with wheel bite using Force R7's and 90mm Fly's. Defiant against having to tighten up my setup I too experimented with a wedged angle riser and its exactly what the doctor ordered. With double stims up front I can still hit 83km/h using a gps and not get the wobs. I do however use an R1 baseplate with a 2 1/2" extension plate on the rear. Old slalom trick. Turny up, front stable out back. This is the front this is the rear

Holey Trucks
On 10/2/2006 Thomas wrote in from United States  (205.188.nnn.nnn)

I bought a pair of Holey trucks from the U.K. - These are very well made trucks. I love the big, translucent red bushings. The carving is a little better than a Randal II, but the feel of the ride is totally unique. They are just as stable at high speeds but far more lively and responsive. After the Silverfish review of these trucks, a lot of people are swapping the upper cup washer for a flat washer. I don't recommend this unless you really feel that the trucks need an even shorter turning radius or unless you're heavy enough to actually break the kingpin, which is not likely. The flat washer does allow more extreme carving angles at the expense of rebound. Anyway, I just wanted to throw my two cents worth in and declare Holey as the best all-around truck on the market. Mile High skates sells them for $65.00 and they're worth every penny.

Randal II bushings
On 10/2/2006 Javier wrote in from Spain  (88.17.nnn.nnn)

I've beem uning RandalII 180mm during 4 years, they've been working great. But I've just received a new set and I've noticed that the default bushing(yellow) is softer and smaller than the last one and the truck is a little bit different. This is particulary important when tou ride them, because they turn much more and it's dificult to avoid wheel bite. Even more if you try to turn really hard the bushing gets out of the whasher, so you have to loose the kinping and put it good. Does anyone has noticed the same thing? Are my rII wrong? Are ther any solution?

angled risers
On 10/2/2006 herbn wrote in from United States  (152.163.nnn.nnn)

naurally the thicker wedges always increase clearence, but one of those thin wedges put on to reduce steering, thin edge away from the end of the board,it only raises the board a tiny bit, and it makes the wheel path straighter towards the board.Wheelrub might happen easier in this position.

advising anglers
On 9/29/2006 sc wrote in from United States  (68.99.nnn.nnn)

Angled risers will work great. They will make your truck turn faster (or slower, depending on which way you put them) as well as add clearance. If you just need more clearance and don't need to mess with the steering angle, go with a flat riser. Still, there's no reason you need to be stuck with the one angle Randal gives you. Don't worry about slanted hardware, as long as it's tight.

Randalls with Angled Risers?
On 9/29/2006 Sven wrote in from United States  (68.171.nnn.nnn)

I was wondering, is it advisable to put angled risers (1/4th" - 1/2") on randalls. I have a Gravity 39" Carve, Randall 180mm's, and Krypto 80mm. When I turn hard enough, i get severe wheel bite, bad enough to almost concuss me when turned nearly a full circle in one lane. So i thought, "why not stick some angled risers on? That should reduce wheel bite right?" However, I have now read that because Randalls are already made with the angled kingpin, angled risers are not recommended. Any comments? Also, if i do chose to put them on, how does one secure the nuts to the bolts and still have the nuts flush with the baseplate? or does that just not happen? Again, comments.

gullwing got bought by sector nine, that's one i feel like i should have thought of without being told. It's excellent,, uh synergy, might be the word. In the days of pivot trucks i sold a lot of custom built(with randals) sectors, now almost no customs all sector completes, the improved wheels help too.

ugh, screw em then. sector 9's product descriptions suck or are non existent. their webmaster should be boiling fries in a paper hat. last i heard gullwing "wasn't about advertising"- how noble but look at em now... but i'd still ride a sector before a dregs... sidewinder trucks look cool, anyone ridden them?

Gullwing got bought by Sector 9 and the domain name has since expired. Which was for the best as it hadn't been updated in quite some time and was not that great to begin with.

wave truck
On 9/26/2006 hc wrote in from United States  (71.139.nnn.nnn)

any info on Togo Hosoda/thruster trucks/amphibian boards? links?

from SF ....
'We spotted this truck mounted on a board being carried across ASR, and we may be the only media to cover it. The Wave Truck is the latest design from Togo Hosoda, the dude responsible for creating the patented Thruster front truck used on Amphibian boards. This one does away with multi-pivots, moves the axle way out on a cantilever and pivots on bearings to turn like crazy. It uses an ingeniously simple spring mechanism to provide a positive return to center and we're stoked to see somebody thinking outside the box. So far, only 'fish in Japan can get these. '

Removing broken kingpins
On 9/22/2006 Geezer-X wrote in from United States  (65.127.nnn.nnn)

You need to support the baseplate on something really solid. A concrete floor works about right. Put the end of the hanger away from the pivot cup against something solid, like a step, wall, something to keep the baseplate from moving.

Use a big hammer and a center punch. Before I had a press I used a 4 pound hammer. If the face of the stub of the broken kingpin isn't flat use a grinder to make a flat spot on it. Drive the broken bit of kingpin out using the hammer and punch.

Brunox makes the CX even smoother
On 9/22/2006 Derik wrote in from Germany  (193.7.nnn.nnn)

Five more miles on my CX this morning. I sparyed some Brunox Turbo-Spray on the Bushings and the pivot: it‘s magic. The smoothness is awesome! The spray does not affect the bushings like grease based lubricants. It's highly recomended by suspension fork manufacturers to keep the forks sealings smooth and initial breakaway torque low. It works for trucks as well! The disadvantage is, that the bushings will now pop out easier, but I ride them so hard, they pop out anyway.
Try it! It's awesome!
