the added leverage of considerable offset(rake) which results in a ,unstabile ,tippiness, is a good thing? Well ,if you're traveling at speeds that might get boring(not necessarily a bad thing) a swervy truck could make things, interesting.

Bennetts are Turning me ON!
On 1/17/2007 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (70.167.nnn.nnn)

After several months of messing with originals and bennetts for skogging purposes, I'm totally turned on to what Mr. Bennett has pulled off 30 years of dreaming up his cranking arc. My originals will always be my favorite loosey goosey cranking slow arc turning truck and Bennetts will be me new Indy replacement truck to get back to the original feel. Way to go Mr. Bennett~!

hey PSR, i heard your a fan of seismics for slalom racing, i dont mind them myself. what setup are you using for ts/gs/hs?? im just not sure whether i should buy another seismic/tracker combo or a rtx/rts combo. i cant afford any trucks that are more expensive because theyre hard to get in australia and cost wayyy to much.
thanks

Mr. X

Yes, Mr. X, there have been 8 previous stages of Independent Trucks in the last 25 years. Changes in hanger shape, strength, materials, baseplates, pivot angle and kingpin angle and even kingpin design...all sorts of stuff. Here's a picture showing the different stages, (thanks to Blair Watson for making the image): picture

I just bought an old slalom board. Its unmarked apart from BOND SLALOM on the trucks. Has anyone heard of Bond Slalom?? It runs pretty sweet though for an old board. Im guessing early eighties.

You are right about the shops in Spokane, you should try Sk8kings.com and look at the Khiro bushings. Contact me if you want someone to ride with, I know of a few garages that are ridable at the moment.

nelson, those aren't bushings, they are plastic cams, they activate the spring when you turn.

Coping with Jason
On 1/9/2007 PSR wrote in from United States  (75.68.nnn.nnn)

I hoped you could figure out how you attack, or pick a line, into/out of the Coping... Tracker's based on the old Gnarly/Dart/Aggro bases tend to draw the line out, whereas Indy's and their numerous competitors-of-similar-geometry will turn a bit quicker, letting you push in tighter, or even slightly change your line near the coping. Bennetts (of old), Lazers, or Energy's would actually let you change your line while On the wall, something I've only felt from Fury's of late. Nervousness accompanies this agility, as will incidental wobs, and the tight parts of the tranny are where Trackers will carry speed better (without compression wobs, or 'twitches').
Where do you 'set up' for a good line to the coping? Pick your truck with that in mind, as well as how hard are you gonna grind?

Nelsonn, you're from Skopane!? Cool, I was born in Chewelah, my dad's folks ended up in Spokane in retirement, still have relatives in the Idaho/Wash. border.
Daddies Boardshop in Portland, Ore. is somewhat close by, worth an e-mail/phone call. Solidskates also has parts + bits, as does skatekings (Ritchie C's site, very cool stuff there!), and there's strangehouse, which has some cool items.

bushings
On 1/9/2007 nelsonn wrote in from United States  (67.185.nnn.nnn)

Nevermind, I finally looked at the Original site and they have bushings. Apparently, this is not an uncommon occurance; they say they last 6-12 months. Plus, this the only place where I've seen these peculiar shaped bushings. They are 4 dollars though...

Cracked bushings
On 1/9/2007 nelsonn wrote in from United States  (67.185.nnn.nnn)

Hey pre-school rider thanks for the advice. I've got 10" Original Super Carve trucks and the bushings are the kind that look like two bicuspids fitting together crossways, and they're rock hard. Unfortunately, I live in Spokane Washington and the only skate shops around here are just for kick-flippers as far as I know. So if anybody knows a good site and what the best bushings would be, any suggestions would be awesome. I figure I just need to get a softer durometer. For now, I just crazy glued them and only used my board for skogging.

Cams Force
On 1/9/2007 JamieM wrote in from Canada  (65.95.nnn.nnn)

Hey Cam, the stock inner bushing(the big barrel)is quite good. I have set up my Force R7's with the stock inner and a bones medium hardcore outer, worked well. Lots of carve, no upper washer to hit the hanger! On the C7s you might want a firmer bushing depending ou your preferences and weight. Check out some radikal bushings if you can get 'em down under, they actually fit well into the force hangers. The stock kingpins are allright, maybe a bit short. On the C7s it is splined and pressed into the base(at least it is on the all ones I have seen)I kinda like this because I can't stand when the K/P rocks in the base. It is easy to remove with a hammer. If you need a bit more length for taller bushings, a 2 3/4" should be fine for most combos. A 3" one will work too, still gives you ground clearance. They are nice trucks, enjoy!

okay so i've learned that I will be able to draw some better lines with the bennets in the bowl even if theyre a little less stable than the trackers but I still dont understand which trucks are better for taking it up to and off the coping?

FORCE TRUCKS
On 1/9/2007 cam wrote in from Australia  (58.166.nnn.nnn)

I am recieving two sets of force trucks, one set of c7s and one set of r7s.i am considering running these trucks on a drop thru speed board with the r7 in the front and the c7 in the back. the question i have is that which bushings are best for force trucks for carving and some light downhill riding on this setup??i have a set of bones hardcore soft and bones hardcore medium bushings.are there any other bushings i should consider??

Also does anyone know anything about the kingpin in force trucks??are they similiar to the randal ones which break?should i replace the kingpin with a stronger one?if so what kind and where do i get it??anyway thanks for any advice.

Cracked bushings
On 1/8/2007 Pre-School Rider wrote in from United States  (75.68.nnn.nnn)

Nelsonn (btw, I hope that's how it's spelled, as C. Nelson is a damn fine rider, and friend [Also inthe 'damn fine cat.]) ;-) , you MUST REPLACE any split, cracked, chewed, or crushed bushings if at all possible. Simply consider the cost differential between reconstructive/plastic sugery and a few months of intensive physical therapy to a well-made $01.00 BUSHING. DO THE MATH!!!
While we're here, btw, feel free to Hate Me for being the FOOL who first noted, in public, the benefits of the Stimulator Bushing that Tracker once (AHEM!) made for their Aggro trucks. They've gone from $0.30 each the over $10.00 Ea. in a few short years, but they're still worth a good price (well, I'd draw the line at $3 each..).
Alright, back to your situation; At the least, replace those tweaked bushings with something... Get a knoweledgable skateshop mech/owner (someone with 15 years skating, who Tinkers with their boards) to recommend the right DUROMETER replacement. Bushings split from three main causes: Too Hard, in the cold and then overstretched, bang, goner.. Too Soft, been cranked down upon far and way too hard by skater with wrench-in-hand.. Wrong dang SIZE, didn't really fit, slapped in there anyhow, got cut by bad washers, truck's hanger had burrs, or is being Twisted badly in deep turns.
Most bushings are inter-compatible, meaning you can more-or-less switch stuff out and it'll work. However, if you find you're cranking way far on the main kingpin nut, that's a warning sign... If you've got a bit of slop in there, that's bad too. If the washers rattle, could be a bad thing, could be fixed with taller bushings or a shim-washer. That all said, let us know what trucks you're running, then someone in here can sell ya on their personal fave stuff. Meanwhile, I'll note that in New-School land, Bones rock, and for most-everyboard, Khiro's are great, where in Slaom/longboard/DH land, Stims and Radikals bushings can be a great choice in part of the set-up.

cracked bushings
On 1/7/2007 nelsonn wrote in from United States  (67.185.nnn.nnn)

Hey, I'm new to this so sorry if I seem retarded. Anyway, the bushings I have are super hard and the inner most one on each truck is broken down the middle. First, I was wondering if replacing them is absolutely necessary, as long as I'm not planning on going much faster than 20-25 mph. Secondly, is there any way to avoid cracking hard bushings, i.e not tightening the trucks very hard? Any help would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, and what's the word on super carve trucks?
