Vintage man my e mail is timphoto@bigpond.com.au The green bushes in the Gulls are not original. I do have real ones but they have perished and I had these trucks mounted on a Sims Superlite that I was riding. Didn't like the feel of the gulls so put some old trackers on it to ride. The lazers I just assumed were correct. They were on them when I bought the setup from a Mr Wolf at Wolf creek in Canada. Love that as Wolf Creek in the name of a very scary movie made here in Australia. I think I payed about 300us for that as a complete. Out of all my decks in my small collection it gets the most looks from people not into skateboards. Just a beautiful color. The yellow one was bought as a NOS deck only. It now has NOS red Rad Pads. These 2 pics show the Gulls on a Sims and my collection. There is Bara's Super Bee ICK up there now and my PPS GS Hybrid. Love the Ick. Just had a ride this afternoon on that one.

Tim, I tried to email you directly, but seems your email is lacking the server name... FYI... :---) Santa Cruz decks WOW BEAUTIFUL!! I always thought Lazer came with BLUE BUSHINGS... If look at my Santa Cruz pics below yours on NCDSA.com See My Lazer Trucks, and are EXACTLY like yours, even down to the blue perfect fitting risers for the Lazer Baseplate!! So that mystery is now solved for me... I got orignal to deck stuff!! Are your bushings original on the gullwings?... Regardless, are a very cool green color with that deck... Lazers and Gullwing Trucks sure look off the shelf brand new!! As do the decks... Thanks for showing us your fancy stuff! As the kids say: SWEET!!! Vintage man

this reminds me, i have a board of very vintage origin, the paint on top has all but disappeared,it appears to have the smallest specks of red and blue,i sort of fell like it may have been a british flag. The trucks are definitely a sawed in half roller skate base, but the bolting/riviting looks professional though far from perfect, one of the wheels has enough graphic remaining to make out "made in great britian",any idea's,pic coming up.

Per the NCDSA webmaster, I decided to weigh these puppies... By the way, he was right and I was quite wrong!! Pittsburgh 2.75lbs!! Gullwing 1.75lbs approx weight. I thought would be close to same weight as Gullwings are so big. My oh my... Must have been heavy lifting to lug those pittsburgh trucks attached to your deck, back up a hill!! Although I guess we had more spring in our step 30 yrs ago! I will post another interesting pair of trucks I have this weekend!! Keep on Keeping On... Joe Dirt cheers Vintage Man

as i remember them, pittsburghs were cast iron assemblies with a brass cam which applied pressure to a single natural rubber bushing. being way too heavy, having a high profile, and relying on metal to metal contact, they had a problem of rattling when set loosely. applying oil to the cam caused premature breakdown to the natural rubber bushing. though a nice piece of history otherwise.

Mannn..! I've been waiting years for a good image of Pittsburgh trucks to be posted! At least one of my 1977 posse in No. VA rode them, probably on a Fibreflex with RR2's. I've got some Magnum trucks from a local garage sale pictured in one of these forums years ago. They used a similar torsion turning mechanism, it seems.

Hey Chris, If noone has grabbed that setup yet, email me with the "name-click email thingy"(I'd do the same but I only have internet at work and we're firewalled from using it). I really don't know what that is worth but let me know how much you want for it. We just bought our first house so the money's tight but I might put a crowbar into my wallet for that. If someone has made a good offer already, go ahead and sell to them, otherwise let me know how much you want. Thanks - Paul

i thought the green bushings were first, but the unconed reds definitely ring up a distant memory. Were there early kingpins with out the post for the reinforcement bracket?i always thought the bracket was hideous in comparison to the rest of the truck.all i have left is a hanger with no axles and baseplate. i remember painting my original set black, one of youths' follies.

Don't Tase Me Pro... Attached picture are `my version of the Gullwings Skateboarder Magazine ad 1977, maybe 1978... All three models, Gold Split, Chrome Split and a Pro models. Actually they had a Phoenix vs a Chrome split I think. Oh well. Note the Gullwing Pro with its straight up and down kingpin versus the typical angle kingpin.. Gold is a first issue w/red bushings! So I never owned back in the day nor rode em back in the Day. Easy to ride? Look bulky to me. Easy to work on? So many moving parts on the split tails! Any opinions, experience.. Who knows how many different styles made from 1975-79 or their pre 1980 styles. I thought 3 till recently. Its 5+?? Cheers Vintage Man Love to here from the pros. Maybe others would? :---)

That's a nice plank Santa Cruz....those do pop up on Ebay from time to time...I dont really think they made tons of them, but they're so damn durable that there are still some out there....If that one wasnt refinished, its the nicest i've seen..
i'd guess 74-75....if it was 73, it'd have the smaller pattern....here's a 73 Ick Stick...from what i know, it's the last of it's kind and the oldest slalom board still in existence...Rick Howell actually made it in middle school and remembers the board...set up exactly as he said it was set originally, Excalibers and Metaflex Surfers...Hand rolled resin over oak..."Ick Stick" made from rice paper...... http://www.icksticks.com/history/
And it's for sale if anybody wants to make a good offer on it....time to let it go to somebody that's collecting rarities

What's the name of my '70s Santa Cruz deck

Does anybody know the correct name of my Santa Cruz deck? Looking in 1978 issues of Skateboard magazine I've come to the conclusion that it is a Santa Cruz proflex cutaway. Is this correct? It is set up with Tracker mids and G&S wonkers. The board to the left is an inverted G&S bowlrider.

kind of odd really. Everybody else, indy, lazer, bennett, ect ect ,went from narrow to wide, but tracker started wide went to half track then a bit wider and then all the way to ex and six track with fatter pivots.Oh yeah i think california slalom may have made mid widths for fifteen minutes on their way out. Which sort of reminds me of another ebay item,a rather beat on binniak that no one seems to be jumping at buy buying for a thousand dollars,it has two sets of holes, this indicates to me that the board was probabely set up originally with california slaloms, the boards came undrilled and that's the only truck with that old small hole pattern, that would be sort of a correct width for that board,i'm not exactly sure why someone would choose the small hole pattern, but converting to the larger pattern was totally simple with those baseplates, i would guess trackers went on next.

Herbin per your questions. Was told 2 yrs ago,via Santa Cruz Corp was made 1975-ish. Per others, told me that Tracker halfs and probably Road Riders were probably original to deck especially if bot from Santa Cruz Corp. Was suggested via the same grapevine I hook up with www.ncdsa.com and make an all points bulletin cry for tracker halfs. Got a fabulous reply/purchase,and stay in contact with that member today! I used green color wheels just because I liked how they look against the wood color and already have Road Rider Reds on other SC Decks. Wheels I think made 1977-78. Feel just like Road Rider Reds. Its possible OJs could be used as well if trying to stay era specific...Nuts/bolts/screws are from a 1976ish deck and the bearings similar year.... Its possible I am mixing up vocabulary regarding Tracker Halfs and Tracker Mids. I forget which is the more narrow truck. I am at my professional working man office of career choice in the Banking institution. I get confused during these hours easily... Would much rather be playing with skateboards vs trying to cover mortgage and other grown up expectations of me!! Cheers Vintage Man

your collection is cool and in excellent shape. perhaps you misread or misunderstood or maybe i wasn't clear enough, i almost compared it to early ick stick models i've seen ,many board companies started in garages or in high school shop, mighty fine stuff can come out of basements and garages, calling something a shop project is (to me) not necessarily a negative, but it just has that "look". I believe it to be original, although i didn't notice that board as a background in later ads. Tell me, in 1973 there was no skateboard mag, this was before most every other mass produced skateboard industry, wouldn't it be accurate to decribe santa cruz as a cottage industry, that essentially means basement or garage, standard pattern letters(not slanted or triangle A) routed into solid ash or oak, no dedicated mold to press plys, no printing of graphics, all things that are endearing. Did the board have trackers on it i'm pretty sure trackers were 75ish wasn't the hole pattern originated by them?Totally 73 would be x calibers ,chicago's, suregrip or rollersports, i have a rollersports cataloge in my magazine collection i never ordered anything but i sent away for it from an ad i saw in "boys life" magazine, probabel 1974, i believe it to be the proverbial seed of my skateboarding interest.

Herbin, you write displaying a lack of knowledge and in a disrespectful way.. Not really appreciated. You hog the site with your interests, yet seem to not like interests of others. Its an ORIGINAL 1973-ish to 1975 Santa Cruz Deck... If look in Mid 1976-77 Skateboarder Mags you can see this model in the ads in the background on the rocks of Santa Cruz with all their new and improved models... NO WAY nor NO HOW does this look like a cheap woodshop model. Its beautiful, original, and in C8++ condition. Value is approx $175 to $275 depending on buyer desire of course. Again Herbin, maybe its your humor, but this is the 2nd time you have made a childish error and written with disrespect about my collection. Maybe just stay off the site with things you don't understand or like.... Love Mom Vintage Man

scaling dimensions, based on the truck mounting holes, the width comes in around 7 3/4 to 7 7/8, which would put the board right in the range for a late 77/ early 78 set-up. early 77, it aint. The picture is definitely squished down, the vertical and horizontal scaling are not even close to the same, they were about 10-12% different.
