What skateboard is this?
On 3/13/2008 Lars Ljungstrom wrote in from Sweden  (90.227.nnn.nnn)

Does anybody know what skateboard this is? I would appreciate all hints! It is 31X10 inches. It has a sticker that says "Custom skateboards Gordon and Smith" but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a G&S board, it may have been added. There is no other branding. I'm sorry if this is posted under the wrong heading, because it is most probably not as old as pre-1980, but I'm desperate to get some knowledge about this board I have bought, so I hope you can excuse me and help me! Thanks in advance:-)

shiny buffed trucks
On 3/13/2008 buddy rawls wrote in from United States  (128.158.nnn.nnn)

I saw references to shaggy buffy some trucks. I think he is the one that did my GW pheonix trucks. They have a WHOLE lot more effort in them than a brush on a drill. They were a multistaged buffing that ends up looking like chrome. and they have not oxidized at all.

ACS, shiny...
On 3/12/2008 PSR wrote in from United States  (75.68.nnn.nnn)

Vintage Man, a friend of mine, "Shaggy", used to hand-polish select trucks until they gleamed! I've got video(ahem,VHS) still of my Hobieflex, with 'Shagged' Fulltracs actually glinting in the sun every other turn as I wander through a 100-cone course. Pretty cool, that.

BTW, those ACS's look spindly and fragile, but because they're pressure-cast, not sand-cast, they're actually pretty damn strong! I've owned ACS 650's, 580's, 500's, 800's, 900's Lites and still have three 651's (two are in use still). NONE have ever broke at the hanger, though I've bent axles, stripped baseplates (at the kingpin threading), and unfortunately ground the Lites so badly that they snapped the kingpins in the baseplates (had I known, then... Would've just parked them and ground on something, anything, else!). Never did own the C-4's or 950's. Those are still (along with Lites and 800's) on my 'wish to find' list, but really wish ACS would just start making trucks (as well as they used to) again!!

Motivation to Clean up your Stuff!!
On 3/12/2008 Vintage Man wrote in from United States  (66.245.nnn.nnn)

So guess my Hang Ten shining up had another
collector do some work this weekend!! Sent
me before and after pictures of his ACS 500s
all nice and buffed up!! Gotta admit, he did
a FABULOUS job... Even the little bushing caps sparkle!!
Simply attach wire brush on your power drill or similar,
little elbow grease and35min later your vintage truck collection
will start to shine again!! I use a spiked cocktail as my
motivator as I work. Example attached of a weekend breakfast motivator!

hang ten
On 3/10/2008 herbn wrote in from United States  (71.127.nnn.nnn)

i see the pics of the original un restored trucks the baseplates have no kingpin, the remains of the original kingpins are still in the holes. The original kingpins were finethread studs ,no head, just threads on both sides of a 3/8 steel rod, actually alot of them were just 3/8 fine thread threaded rod. To put new kingpins a tracker and an old indy i've milled the broken end of the king pin flat and drilled a center hole then redrilled progressively larger until the kingpin just shredded leaving thread in the baseplate, that may have needed just a bit of thread chasing.Alot harder than knocking a broken bolt out.

Hang Ten Truck Herbin
On 3/10/2008 Vintage Man wrote in from United States  (192.193.nnn.nnn)

I am pretty sure everything pictured is original to hang ten truck....
But to be honest I have no idea...
Good eye though, even if are original :---)
I don't think king pin has been "snapped".
I think its a king pin made without a king head!?? Or is that snapped?
I believe paint was original as was so difficult to remove and so
professionally applied. Doubt they made silver/chrome trucks....
But again, am guessing...
All I know is: 1972, 1973 Junior and Senior years I wore hang ten logo
polo style shirts, levi jeans, pier one purchased bamboo style
flip flops every freaking day at my California High School
not near a beach :---) Oh and had hair then as well!!

hangten,now that you mention it.......
On 3/9/2008 herbn wrote in from United States  (71.125.nnn.nnn)

i took a pic of a hangten ad,it glared a bit ,so i gave up; very late very tired. But the pic shows a gold paint as being stock. They obviously look a hundred percent better restored, but did they come in silver? It's cool to see someone else remove a snapped off stud type kingpin, i don't know if there are any "kids" that look at that pic and know what happened there,a bit more than knocking out the old snapped off bolt and putting in a new one.

Jack sets it straight
On 3/9/2008 Bob Frias wrote in from United States  (69.143.nnn.nnn)

There was no "failed collaboration between Seismic/Turner".

Howard Gordon (3DM) collaborated with Bobby Turner, and while it may not have lasted all that long, it certainly filled an equipment void in the early days of the slalom's rebirth.

I stand corrected Jack. Many apologies to Howard and certainly to the memory of Bob Turner [he watches us all skate].

Pic explanation
On 3/8/2008 Bob Frias wrote in from United States  (69.143.nnn.nnn)

The text is actually a little farther down bro. That Turner is actually a brother to yours. It has the black top as well and they were made for the now failed collaboration between Seismic/Turner. The Team Sims I bought off Ed Economy. I'm not sure of its history at all. Ask Ed, he may know more.

It's really NOS but when I got it it had been ridden, albeit not much. It came with Tracker Mids and white Sims Snakes which are clearly not slalom wheels. With the splits and Belair Bolts on it now it is a rider but I just dont ride it as I have other Turners I can ride. My fave board right now is actually my Roe Bottle Rocket. TTC on the back and small pivot Ful [my fave front truck].

Hope this helps

Just One Pic
On 3/8/2008 Bob Frias wrote in from United States  (69.143.nnn.nnn)

OK, so I forgot how to do the img=pic thingy. But here are a couple of faves. The pic is older but they are still here in my collection.

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=344205183&albumID=654517&imageID=2037394

First is an OSSJ deck outfitted with NOS Rollerballs and NOS Mag Trackers. It now has yellow tail, rib and nose bones and it is one of the most beautiful boards I own. Then there is a Hester H-Bomb with Fuls and I think Turner La Costa's. I changed the wheels to red C-65's a while back. Turner/Seismic deck with Mids and Stingers. I actually don't have this board anymore. Pleasure Point deck with Bennet Pro's and OJ Supers.

On the floor is a G&S Response with painted Tracker Fuls and Stingers. And my all time fave Sims Team Turner. This board is now set up with Splits Belair Bolts. It's actually put away in a box with other gear so I'm not tempted to ride it. I rode it at the Gathering II and people looked on in horror.

Unusual Trucks???
On 3/7/2008 Vintage Man wrote in from United States  (66.245.nnn.nnn)

Lordy... I love the vintage pics on this site now coming
on a daily basis. Cool recent Santa Cruz and Dogtown postings!!
These Hang Ten trucks were just horrible to look at via ebay purchase.
Paint took me 2 hours to get off!! Personally I think look fabulous now.
Enjoy the before and after pics. I put on Red Hang Ten wheels.
Got Yellow/Gold Hang Tens on another deck. Man are Hang Ten wheels hard!!
Not sure one could really ride concrete on em :---) Anyone know???
Cheers

Vintaga Man is seriorly making me want to break out some pix of my BOSS gear. It will end up looking like a bragging session so I may just put up one only.

Most of the gear I see here is seriously bitchin.

Perhaps later tonight I may drop a pic in.

I'm gonna take a ride to the store on my Santa Cruz Street Skate [with rainbow graphics, Rebounds and OJ Superjuice] to the store for some beef jerky.

Or maybe the late 70's Turner Blackbird [with wheel wells],NOS Splits and Kyp slaloms?

So many choices!!!!
