I still ride my Parkrider, now it's got Lazers and either Green Kryptonics C-65's or (soft mode)ABEC 11 Stingers on it. For many, many years it ran Midtrackers and green Snakes. Instead of the Power Pivot(nice, btw), I put Ugly Nose-rails on both ends, probably in the mid-80's, about the same time I also added a 'short' wheelbase holeset to it (13-1/2") for easier old-schoolin' freestyle tricks.
It's my oldest board (that's complete) in terms of when I aquired it, which was in the spring of '77. Never could quit riding it!
Now, my 19 month old twins LOVE this board, albeit sitting or laying on it...

That was an awesome side view photo. The inside radius is definitely not the same as the later white bones. It was rounded, not beveled; I never knew that. I had always thought they were nearly identical to the whites, but they aren't. I am sticking those photos in my archives.

Mad-Rat, nice comparo photos! I only wish that the original 'bone-white' Bones could've been included! I recall those as being really grippy (similar to Pacers), and still fast enough to get to or a bit above the coping. The 'colored' and varied-durometer Bones Cubics were definately heavier, with a bit less grip (in terms of relative durometer), but a bit more speed. By then (this being mid-'78 or so; time delay due to Right Vs. West Coast of course! No one had 'new' stuff this-a-way..) I was on Kryptonics greens/blues and/or solid-pink [ahem, Magenta] Park Riders; with friends also sporting early UFO's, Astros, and Snakes[all Flat-backed]. I think I was the first in the area to have plastic-cored wheels, as I had nabbed some in Co. whilst visiting there in the late summer. Man, there were some crazy-fast wheels that year!! '79 was the best, other than, um, '01, for having wheels about that made you drool, wishing for more Speed and Grip!! Used to have dreams about those wheels.. I believe these days they're called Speed-Vents and Gumballs.... ;-D

Peter, thanks for taking the trouble to dig those wheels out. Excellent photo as always. I have two of those, somewhere. I wonder what it will take to persuade my daughter to remember where she has put them. I couldn't give these away on ebay, no bids at $10!Just as well really.

OK, so I just trawled through 5 boxes of wheels, and these were at the bottom of the last box. Why is it always like that?
Here is a pic. Yup, its just as Buddy described. Big radius front, average radius back. Inset bearing. Almost exactly the same as the small Bones wheel. I'll try to take some side by side examples.

Thanks Peter and Buddy for your comments. I think mine are marked Powell inside the the outward facing lip. I really must try and find them! I should at least have the pics from my ebay listing. Would be good to see the pics of yours Peter if you get the chance to take a photo.

The original proto's and later released original bones, did not have a hefty radius on the inside edge. They had a small bevel (around 1/8" or so), quite similar to the 2nd gen kryptonics. For all practical purposes, it was a flat backed wheel. The bearings were inset a little bit, though. Very similar to the original G&S yo-yo.

Those red wheels on the Quicksilver were marked POWELL as you remember Laurie. Raised letters on the outside edge.
I have a set too. And I got them from Ed Economy about 6 years ago, along with the gullwing proto's. I'm sure they are similar dimensions as a bones cubic with a massive radius front and back edge. I could be wrong.
My memory could be playing tricks on me though, I'll have to dig them out and photograph them.
I remember that the quicksilvers used to ship as a complete with a gullwing on the front and a tracker full track on the back. Which would explain the back truck on the picture.

Interested in Buddy's comments about the Powell promo wheels on ebay a few years ago. Do you remember if it was a full set or just a pair. I bought a pair off ebay around that time because they looked like the ones on the quicksilver deck/Gullwing protos in the advert. They were described as 'experimental' in the listing. Can't remember if they were marked Sims or Powell inside the lip. I did not pay much for them and listed them again recently but they did not sell. I gave them to my 5 year olddaughter to play with and now they seem to have vanished. I will try to find the wheels and some pics to post for your opinions. If they are same wheel I would love find an early Gullwing proto on which to mount them. To that end I will be listing a set of original Bennett Alligators on ebay soon but would prefer to trade for something interseting.
Does any one have or have pics of Bennett SuperGators or Croc-Rocks other than the ones in the Bennet adverts?
Will post pics when I can.

It's part of The Farm slalom race. We've been doing this for for 8 years and need a break, so if you want to try it, hurry up!
Board, truck, and wheels* need to be circa 1978 or before. Modern bushings and bearings acceptable. Seperate class for plastic playboys - stock, open bearing grentec like boards. Period garb is encouraged.

i remember an ad where that truck was called "the vortex truck" perhaps the first idea for a name. How about the back truck,appears to be a "conventional truck,you can see a little bit of a red bushing,but they look to be shaped more like trackers,california slalom? i think in my "live" copy i see what looks to be a nut on the kingpin,that's not california slalom,so it would go back to maybe tracker with bennett bushings adapted(they didn't really fit)that's kind of weird for an ad usually they don't do that type of thing on new product shots,riders do that on well used boards.

That Sims/Quicksilver ad is from the spring magazines of 1977, which typically means the photo shoot would have been early in 1977. Those original red powell wheels are supposedly the same shape as what was later released as the white Bones wheel. There were two sizes of the white wheels. I think there were two sizes of the red also, but I am not sure the red were ever offered beyond promos and specialty flow. There was set on Ebay a couple of years ago, that went surprisingly low, for what they were, or rather what I thought they would go for. Its almost as if the most obscure does not fetch a high price because most are not aware of what it is.
The gullwing split axles look like the early prototypes that were given out to the downhill and slalom friends of Mike Williams and some of that crew in the summer of 1976. Mike Williams was also one of the test riders for the Sims/Quicksilver effort; probably part of the reason the ad board was outfitted Gullwings, especially the proto-types. Also, speaking of Sims/Quicksilver test pilots, Both Peralta and Hoffman were in on that effort too. Which also is funny how Peralta and George Powell came together on the partnership a little later.

Mike, there was a picture of a new Tunnel board in the products section if my memory is correct. I can scan it for you but I won't be able to do it for about a month (I don't have the magazine with me at the moment). If anyone wants to do it, it was the issue with the Jay Adams interview, he was also on the cover.

I believe the August 1982 Thrasher may have an article or ad for Tunnel Products aka Tunnel Skateboards. I don't need the actual article. Just a high quality scan. If anybody could scan that and email to me I can drop a vintage Tunnel sticker in the mail in return.
I'm also looking for a scan from 1976 Skateboarder (don't know which issue) of 41st Ave Skateboards. It has 9 photos of individual complete skateboards, four on left side, 4 on right side, and one on bottom. On bottom is a red fibreflex. Around the edge is a "Rainbow" style border.

Adding a little info re: the Teamrider on current eBay auction that may be a problem. fredvintage reported that he won the auction from netcam13. netcam13 is no longer registered. I asked current seller a few questions making sure countersunk screws were never used on the board, and then slid in a question inquiring if he happened to get the board from netcam13. His response, exactly (I'll use quotes and leave in typos): "i bought this from netcam13, i brought lots of thngs from netcam13 stuff, thanks". Certainly seems like an odd connection and likely confirms fredvintage's concerns. netcam13 is no longer a registered id on eBay. Don't know if it means anything, but I'd suggest proceed with serious caution.

Further to my previous posts about the first ever Gullwing split axles and Powell wheels.
I managed to find this picture of the ad I was refering to. I have no idea which edition of skateboarder this is, cos I just have this photo of the page in question.
It shows the first Gullwing spit axles (note the different hanger), on the first Powell Sims Quicksilver with the Powell dual radius edge wheels that I believe never went into production. Although I have a set. These wheels look to be the father of the Bones Cubics as they share the same proportions, but in clear red urethane. Nice.

There is also something 'not right' with the G&S Warptail he is selling, for $400.
The nose is 'wrong'.
The griptape is 'wrong'.
The tail appears to be flat. Wrong
The sticker on the top said 'warptail' in small writing in the red area on the originals.

I just want to let you know that there is a NOS red Teamrider on E bay from Australia and there might be some problems with this deal.
A few month ago, i bought this board (i'm SURE it's this one) from an australian buyer (natcam13), i paid him right away and i NEVER RECEIVED the board. I had to go through an EBAY dispute and i got some of my money back (but not all of it unfortunately). The seller was not answering my mails, then said that the board was shipped which hapened to be false. Had false feedbacks ... You know what i'm talking about i'sure. He is no more an ebay seller
It seemed this natcam13 was insane or something like this (just look at the feedback (fredvintage) he left me and you'll undestand)
So i just wanted to let all of you know what hapened to me. I'm not saying that the "new(???)" seller will give you trouble but ...
There is also a NOS pre Warptail (400 bucks!) for sale from this very same person

Thanks Paul and Mad-Rat, you're right. I thought the Gordo logo was on the West Country sticker, I was wrong. There is no mention of Macho on the board though. When I bought it I was told it was a West Country so I didn't look hard enough, it also reminded me of a Ramp Rocker so I thought it had a "British" feel to it. I was actually after the rubber grip G&S Pro Slalom that came with it.
I know nothing about Macho other than the Cal Streets advert that a quick web search threw up, has anybody got any info?

those special rail beam k beams were one of my most liked boards, i saw either micke or steve (alba) riding one at cherryhill, and i was waiting to see if there was gonna be a steve alba version in production,the mickee was not only small for me at 9.5 but short too at 29.5. I stuck with a shogo for a long time waiting for a concave version,my ultimate imaginary mutt would've been a concave caster with airbeams. I eventually went to concave grisham. Oh yeah put the p tex and bumpers from a kryptonics foamy on my concave caster airbeam.
