The sun is not yet up With air cold, sky clear I sling my board on my shoulder And take a last swig of beer. I start the long climb In pre dawn's eerie light On an asphalt reef, so new And smooth its just right. A 20 degree grade with A full mile of face It got a long runout So I'll end in grace. I get to the top And unsling my deck I watch the rising sun and Work out a kink in my neck. I step on and push off Beginning my descent I say a quick prayer And ask for His assent. My carving is on And the Gumballs sing My face is freezing and My ears start to ring. The turns are fast, My wheels hold tight I'm halfway down now And it couldn't be more right I'm relaxed and into it Enjoying dawn's light. I come to the end My legs are feeling heavy I almost get splattered by A fast moving Chevy. The driver shoots me a look I give him the finger I pump out of sight Deciding not to linger.
Cheers, Jack in Aurora

As the window of opportunity opens and shuts unpredictably, like a shutter in the winter winds, February in Toronto is about the sketchiest skate climate anywhere, I suspect. A day here, a half-day there is all we get...and it has made me appreciate the opportunity ever more. I f!%^$@#ing love skating.

My daughter said to me on the way to school today. Daddy what do you look for on a hill to skate, anyway? I thought for awhile and said with a smile, I look for THE hill THE one that I crave It has a high peak, and is sloped like a big wave. It has a quick dropoff, so I pick up speed in a wink. It slams me down mercilessly and I know my skating stinks. I black out for a minute and catch wipeout winks. I wake up up from my nap, I shudder and blink, I gaze up at the peak, bashed, torn and bloody and I yell at the hill with a wibk "I'll get your ass someday buddy!" Yeah... that's what I think.
Whatta want for nothin'? Shake S. Peare Forgeddaboutit.

it goes beyond words... it changes your heart... it is beyond religion, beyond faith... better than your first love, more true to who you are... it's who you want to be with... it goes beyond all the disappointment all the sorrow every let down in your life... and it moves you. it's just a plank of wood on some trucks and some wheels... and it moves you. your heart races and then soars... and it is passion. it becomes you.

just wrote a reply on "decks" page to a brother skater who almost threw away his board...something about having to grow up. My brother and sister skaters, the world will never embrace what we know about skating...forgive them, pity them, educate them, but do not, please, do not let the sleeping masses influence your gift out of you. In the movie Stepping Into Liquid, Timothy Leary is quoted as having said that the highest expression of humanity is to live an aesthetic life based on "the dance", and that surfers had discovered this. What we feel, we may sometimes take for granted, but believe me, it is truly, truly a gift.

h0dad and Tom are skating a new valley subdivision full of twisty, fresh, black ashpalt.
Over the hills comes the developers in two helicopters, like Apocalypse Now.
We're riding while they're floating about, maybe three storeys over our heads, checking their project out from the cockpits. It was surreal. Hard to stay on the boards under the rotor-wash. WUMP-WUMP-WUMP-WUMP-WUMP..It was fantastic.
Suddenly, Tom becomes Taylor Knox and h0dad becomes Laird Hamilton. Together, they pull into the heaving monster of Jaws one more time. Dirt and leaves become spray blown off the lip, while the film crew in the choppers get sick footage.

It is the still of the nite
The dew on the new tar shines like a mirror
As I look down the hill the lite posts seem to glow from the mist in the air
A train horn blows way in the distance giving me the signal to go down and experiance and embellish in the free spirited movement that perpells me down as the souls of riders past cheer me and hoot, all the while overspray from my speedy wheels keeps me focused in the now and keeps me grounded down to mother earth.
Ride on forever Lloyd your free!

A young man named Lloyd passed away while skating in South Africa. The speedboard forum has covered it well. Say a prayer for all in this world, then say a prayer for Lloyd's soul and Lloyd's family. My mom is a head injury nurse, and yet I have often taken outragous risks while skating. Skate safe folks. I hope Lloyd's soul is flying free and happy.

I've recently got the nitch to build my own skate ramp. I've never done this before because we're entering the era of free public skateparks. The art of crafting one's own ramp from wood and steel is lost. I've been investigating ramp designs and there are many out there. Free, pay, 10'w/vert to 4'-mini. Of all the posts on this site, I trust the soulriders the most. Discuss freely and enjoy.

A swell forms at sea And travels many miles To heave itself into a wall And collapse in an instant Foam dissipates the last of the moments’ energy
Were you there to see it? Did you dare to feel it? It went un-ridden It couldn't change its’ plans To fit your schedule
The hill waits, less celebrated Patient like a loyal dog Waiting for your return Waiting to cheer you on Smiling like a proud parent as you reconnect

Just the wind blowing my hair back as I wizz by idling traffic....I hold my breath as I pass by accelerating deisels....moving through their puff of black smoke....I smile at kids waving to me from apartment windows and from back seat car windows and I give the thumbs up to those drivers who yield to me as I cruise effortlessly on my longboard through the urban thoroughfares on my way to the other side of town. When I pause for a break, I take the time out to rap w/kickflippers who are amazed that I can manouvre a board as long as they are tall. Before you know it, it's time to move on.....onward, got to go!

whats up everyone out in nothern california. Me and some buddies are setting up a big chinese downhill on old tunnel road in berkeley this saturday. We will be celebrating daylight savings with a massive downhill on this mellow and historic 3 mile road. There should be plenty of dank to smoke, a keg of premium nothern california micro brew, and even some dank food to eat. we are meeting at the bottom of the hill at 1:00 pm. . where trying to make this session large scale, so everyone who can ride downhill on wheels should come out and have fun. we will also need some extra transportation, perferably trucks. if you are interested or need directions, email me.

Hodad and buddy Tom went for another drive looking for downhill spots in the hills yesterday.
We seriously hit the jackpot and discovered what amounts to a downhill skate park.
A whole valley has become a new subdivision. No people live there yet. It is big and silent. There are magnificent black asphalt runs, no cars, no stones or dirt, perfection.
We bombed the lower runs for a couple of hours, then made the long walk up the central run to the top of the valley and discovered an oasis; another set of runs, the best so far.
After naming the runs in traditional surf style (eg. "loops", "highway", "bridges", "oasis" and others) we now pause, consider our good fortune and how to share it so as not to ruin a good spot. We'll be back with a collection of skaters and a video camera.

Last Night's Cruise Sesh-
Carving lines at school Walkman playing Game 7 They all watch me glide.
I was a little freeked out to try it, but I needed to multi-task to get everything done yesterday. Plus, sitting on the couch to watch a whole baseball game is disgusting. So after class, I strapped on my 45" S9 and hit up the university mall. I thought baseball and skating could never mix. They are desires of two opposite worlds. It was all good, the sesh rocked. I recommend this combo, but only in October (my baseball season). enJoy
