vault the iron fence under the light of a full moon be quick be surefooted do not to impale yourself on the cold iron spikes land softly and fetch the board there will be a road at your feet it will be smooth, it will be steep follow it as winds uphill switchback after switchback past neatly arranged rows of uniform military tombstones marking dead heroes and warriors each buried here by an act of congress tread softly to the top, stop catch your breath, be still, be mindfull realize how lucky you are to be alive surrounded by all the dead being out here in the middle of the night now makes perfect sense time to carve, time to slide, time to ride the tombstones blur by the first hairpin approaches the squeal of urethane the scraping of slidegloves pure joy, pure fear, pure mindfullness over and over, from top to bottom till your legs are rubber and your eyes start playing tricks with the shadows and the light out of the corner of your eye you're seeing mouldering WWII vets and you're not sure whether they are here to haunt you to eat you or maybe to warn you to tell you that you are cutting it too close, that you've gotten too tired that on the next corner you will slip up and slide from your world to theirs taht the line between worlds gets blurry this late if they were you, they would rather be in bed with your nice warm wife than stuck in this cold cemetery

Today is the sunniest, warmest day we've had here in T.O. all year. I got out and skated all my favorite local runs, with plenty more in store...Now that's a Good Friday!
Happy Easter

Betty!
Amen, amen. The Stoke is a beautiful thing, is it not? Love the poems, and the positive vibes... It's really about the people, and God... it may sound corny but its true. (My skate family is literally my family!! How great is that?!) And whether you're a pagan-christian-gnostic-mystic or a buddhist-muslim-druid-rasta, it don't matter. God hears ya.
Keep the Stoke Rollin!

I've been blessed into a new family by my skateboard. If it weren't for Road Kill Racing, I wouldn't have such a spectacular family tree- but it blooms, and we have a reunion every sunday- and we skate together. I've never had anything in my life that created the kind of bond with others that skateboarding has created. I thank God (you're Pagan?) for my team, or krewe, if you will. It's the closest, most respectful, most generous, fun, happy, loving relationships I've ever had. Skate or die. Can I get an Amen?

That's a good idea. I've been getting into skating for about two years now and every time i go out hill hunting its another new adventure. Cruising around in my buddies car with three other guys while cranking some Creedence Clearwater Revival or Hendrix is a truely unique experience. The fluid atmosphere of slowly carving a long hill with your friends is unmatched and fantastic. One guy taking the car to the bottom of the hill and all of you skitching back to the top is great. Pushing each other to try new things opens up the world of skating in no other way possible and to try everything on a quite night just as the sun is going down with only the hum of your wheels and the rushing wind is like no other feeling. My friends and I have crazy schedules so when we do get to skate together it's a time when a person can find out the true mentality of their closest friends and get the adrenaline pumping as well.
Good times

Hey skaters. I'd like to initiate a semi-formal discussion here:
Tell us what skate means in your life. Day-to-day, Big-picture, health, happiness, spirituality, etc. Don't be shy, just let 'er rip. If you're self-concious, just post anonymously!

Just want to say I'm new to longboarding in general (I'm only 20 and used to shortboard when I was about 16) and have found so many forums where people just compete to be the most knowledgeable or put others down. I came here on a chance link and have to say, though I'm new, this place seems to embody everything that attracted me to it in the first place. Kudos to everyone here, and hopefully I'll continue to visit here as I progress.

This past weekend the weather was awesome and I was blessed with the opportunity to ride. My local crew were all out and about and could not hook up with them so I decided to go scout two new spots that some of the crew had already ridden. The first location was a brand new development on the lake and it was absolutely beautiful. The pavement was new and smooth. The hills were fast and long. The setting was sublime. It was just me and my board. Taking long carving runs down this road through the woods....no people...no cars...no noise but the wind in my helmet, the birds, and the hum of my wheels on the pavement. Each ride down the hills was better than the one before and the walk back up more reflective and peaceful....totally soulful....
This is where I road......

Well, glad to see the true meaning of my "we are stardust" post made such an impression. But to continue in the same spirit, a poem, submitted for your further enjoyment...I call it "Stoke". Ahem (sound of clearing throat)...
Slumbering just beneath the everyday a faint memory of a self more divine Skating is what brings it back to me rekindling the almost-smothered Fire.
...thankyou...

Adam H, thanks for the props. Betty, your entry entitled "soul boarding"...Poetic. Astute.
Just a bit of esoterica:
Giant space-dust clouds collapse under their own gravity, becoming extremely hot and often lighting-up, becoming a star.(bear with me...)
When the star lights-up, it blows off all its heavy atoms, leaving mostly just hydrogen. The rest is pushed into an orbit around the star, eventually forming a solar system...planets, comets, asteroid belts. And, maybe, after millions of years, People. (now, my point...)
We are quite literally made from stardust.
Have a skate and ponder if you will.

TomT's post titled "Brothers and Sisters", pretty much says it all. I have a friend who just got back into skating and twisted his ankle. Kind of hard to hide so of course everyone around him says "you're too old to be skateboarding". He's 39 like me. That's such crap. I told him that they are welcome to sit on their couchs and get fat be bored and die of heart attacks but I am going to skate till I physically cannot!! Most non-skaters just don't get it. It's deep down inside and it doesn't just go away. It may go into hibernation. But it doesn't go away.
