Youch, LBB, that sounds painful! Concussions are nasty. Almost died that way, once (no joke). Hope you feel better soon.

LBB, hope you get back on you're feet soon. I'm sure you'll have a good story to tell about the crash, that's the only "good" thing about them. You'll be 90 years old telling the grom hoverboarders about the bloody day you hit the tarmac, and of course the tale will always get better, with time.

My best wishes go to Mike ( Alias Longboardbuddha, Longy, LBB, etc)
As over the weekend he had a particulalrly nasty crash, suffering a couple of broken fingers and Concussion
To quote from Ann Marie ( Mrs Longy )
"he just cant see out of one eye and slightly deaf in one ear..his helmet was smashed in half,he'll be ok in about 3 weeks the hospital said."
Get well soon Buddy

one thing that would make my carving even better would be to listening to my favorite songs...late night runs with the music in my ears would be the best feeling ever, but i havent found a good setup of speakers to use...ive tried headphones, but they are dangerous (cant hear cars from behind) and i had a set of small speakers that plug into a headphone slot in a discman. those didnt have enough power...anyone got a good set of speakers that they throw in their backpack they would recommend?

i'll take that as a definite downer then:(awww. Ah well, having run over the local mini mosher population i spent the day finding people to impress with my sliding. The ol' grannies down the bowls club seemed most impressed, seriously..:)Am I now an official hooligan?

my web page about uk groms was in the large part a funny look at teenage 13-16 skaters but in the most part it was an attempt to bridge the gap between me and my eldest son (13 wise years of age) who is indeed a uk skate grom and 99% of the page is dedicated to him and his mates who incessantly take the you know what out of me at every opportunity...you see in the longboardbuddha family we try to approach every calamity and every aggravation modern life throws at us with an element of humour and laughter finding that laughing dissipates the dark clouds of depression and stress....skating helps this and when faced with groms and their seriousness i try to help them see the funny side...take a look at any statue of buddha and look at the smile that plays on his face...he knew that to deal with ones personal pain a gentle laugh disspates a thousand griefs...

hey lexx...some groms are cool....YEH I did just write that!!! I went to the local outdoor skatepark yesterday to practise dropping in and pumping on my Dudu (40")...anyway, all the kids were asking for go's on my board so I let them blast around the park on it....
when I finally got it back (about an hour later...no joke!) I started doing drop-knee turns on the quarterpiped corners...and crouching grabbing the deck and trailing a hand 'in the water' and sliding around....then as I sat and watched, just as I was about to leave, I saw all the groms, on their shortboards, going round the corners crouching and holding onto their decks and trying to trail and slide etc.....that was beautiful...
now all the groms want longboards!!!...inside every grom there is a longboarder just waiting to blossom.
I'm off to the skatepark to save a few more souls!

Back again...so soon? Actually I was thinking to myself while cruising today, "What do people think about when they skate"? I mean sometimes I let my mind wander and the next thing you know...DOH!!! Most of the time I try to clear my thoughts, kind of like meditation, it really helps with my focus. I know some folks like to take out their frustrations and vent with a more aggro edge. I will go now, out into the suburban jungle, and think of my "happy" place- Makaha, HI., or Malibu, CA. Hmmmm...
P.S. What's going on with the Z-games? It looks like our mates across the pond have got it down, so lets join em'! I don't think this is a stupid idea,- A bunch of Guys/Gals, longboards, positive vibes, music, food, otters, What more could you ask for?

Good day all! Been away from the ol' computer lately, havin' too much fun or something like it. Summer is almost here, well it practically is, that means bare-foot sessions for all! I don't want to hear any whining about blisters or the sort, these are mandatory, and FUN, so do it. Thank me later. TGIF .....*****.....*****.....bObO*****.....** ***.....*****.....

Hey Mogo, Give me an e-mail, I live in Oklahoma and ride longboard, buttboard and streetluge. I have been planning a trip to Arkansas with a couple of friends to Mount Magazine (by Paris, Ar) and Mount Nebo (South of London, Ar) to check out the road conditions and hopefully do some riding.

I now work four nights a week while I'm at university. This means I can buy trucks or wheels every week. That is a feeling that touches my soul.

Longboardbuddha, I find that if I constantly medidate while skating, speed wobs never have a chance to start in the first place.

ok ok...very funny...the UK/USA crossover for the use of the word "rubbers"...I'm sure you giggled for hours at the stupid Englishman!..(who will now always use the word "bushings" on any american sites).
You might want to try the red colour which is softer than the orange if you are quite light weight...

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll definetly buy new "rubbers'" for my ride and try the proposed techniques. And Longboardbuddha, by the way, if things don't work out, I'll try your technique... _ _ o o I '---'

Mogo, Your neighbor to the north with some good news. You can do like I did today, like so many surfers everywhere today, you can sit around and jones for some surf! That's half of surfing anyway, waiting. I didn't skate due to the rain, but of course you could skate, almost anyday.
I'm a fan of the Torsion trucks for creating surf like carve without speed wobble. I like to carve in the 10 to 30 mph range, and I'm having no wobble issues. I've done a little bombing up around 35+??? No wobble on the 58", some carvable wobble on the 44" and 37". I'd give 'em a try. My guess is that you will come to love the Ozark Mountains and hilly residential spots in Arkansas.
I've got 5 pairs of Torsions, and I've mounted them on a lot of different decks, with different durometer bushings, parks and hills, University side walks and garages. Pave your world with a foot of water, put the torsion on your deck. Happy carving. Have a friend send you some wax, inhale and ride :)

i always meditate at the onset of wobbles this allows me to levitate above the board...but keep one toe on the deck so that levitation and deep meditation does not cause you to reach nirvana too soon....when the speed wobbles stop then gently think about something (wheel durometers work for me)and it will lower you back onto your board.

...oh, and feed the pressure in really gently when you are going faster, dont jerk the board over onto an edge too hard, to get the nice big smooth carves!

Try changing your rubbers in your trucks for independent orange or the next harder compound (can't remember the colour), these are quite soft, but don't worry, often the case can be that harder bushings give more aggressive rebound and so cause more wobbles...then tighten your trucks up...make the rear truck a little tighter than the front as this will make you get your weight forwards, which helps to kill the speedwobbles and makes you carve better, and stops the rear of the board from wandering around and twitching.
When you do get the wobbles...lean forwards a little (I know that sounds scary...but try leaning backwards - that really messes things up!)...then bend your knees a little more and relax. If you are going really fast and get really bad speed wobbles then go for an old surf stance which is to bend your knees and drop them together (like standing with your knees twisted in towards each other so they are touching)...this allows you to relax your legs a little and not "feed" the board with more energy from your body wobbling.
The other thing to do is to learn to footbrake...then you wont have to bail or run out.
Hope this helps a little.
Mat

I am hoping someone here can give me a hand. I've surfed for the past 20 years, but now moved to Arkansas in the US. Of course, there is no ocean or mountains for snowboarding, so I picked up a longboard to get my daily gravity/board sport fix. I am running into the same problems I had with regular boards when I was a kid: When i start going faster, the board starts with the amphetamine-hula under my feet. I can control it (for the most part) by tight carving, but i'd like to make the big, wide carves I've seen in videos at a higher speed. I don't fall when I bail, but do a nice feet-slapping routine to the amusement of anyone near (this may give you a clue at with speed things go bad). I've tried tightening and loosening the trucks to no avail. The trucks are about 2.5 feet apart and they are about 10" wide. Any ideas? Thank you.
