Soul is: Cruising around a parking lot, walking up and down your board with the reggae music on your ears, and the breeze hitting your face.
Soul is: Bringing your board to the skatepark, and having the whole park stop and look at you Hang Five with your back foot extended perfectly behind you.
Soul is: having a group of groms lineing up behind you at the park for their own chance to ride a longboard.
Soul is: Doing any cruising trick with one foot.
Soul is: Having people walking down the street stop and watch you pull off helicopters on your board than turn into the smoothest dropknee hand-down bert you've ever pulled.
Thats soul.

Mat: Traveling went extremely well. I'd say the best memories are from that meet. (BTW, why aren't there any posts about that? Everyone still skating?:) )
So what IS soul? Soul is........
-teaching someone to skate, and watching them suddenly get it and just... mentally explode with pleasure.
-A grom taking up your massive board and refusing to give it back.
-Riding twosies (or threesies, foursies, etc)
-Crusing so slow that you can close your eyes for a long second and not crash into anything.
-...But still have the momentum to keep going for another 50 yards.
-Getting barreled by hedges.
-Carving so low you could duck under a semi.
-...If there were semis out at three in the morning.
-Traveling the world and meeting other soul carvers (Thanks Lush and co)
-Having people come up to you and say "Hey, I saw you the other day! Yeah, you where riding that big skateboard. You looked so _happy_!"
-Those sessions where you head out to the top of the hill and sit down and talk for an hour before getting in one run which leaves you totaly fulfilled.
-Finishing a run, collapsing flat and your back and commencing to laugh and laugh and laugh.
-When the only sound is the hiss of wheels on asphalt.
Yeah, these are the things that turn me on to longboarding. It's good to be a skater.

and sometimes those without the chuzpah (sp? I'm protestant, so my yiddish isn't so good) to post a snide response without a return e-mail must be defitive of "soul," I guess. it's especially soulful when they use such a sensitive word as "retarted." how nice.
if you'll follow my posts, i was being more than a little self-effacing. i'd made references to my maleness and our stereotypes throughout. that's called parody. betty and i are cool now, we had a very healthy discussion-both on, then off, line.
what's soulful to me is rolling with the flow, not getting involved in other's posts unless you're really INVOLVED. what's soulful to me is being supportive, letting your feelings show, and having the confidence in your feelings to put your name on them.
oh yeah, same goes for when i'm skating. too get back on topic.
