If any other company was willing to market a large center-set wheel, they would've already done so. I've been waiting too long for these. Three cheers to Chris Chaput for bringing skaters what they actually want!!!

DT maintains "...all you got to do is change the height or width a little and the angles will naturally have to change if you want to keep the same ideal shape, thats a given that wasnt explained...". There's only problem. Sean changed the height a little left the angles unchanged. Was that "unnatural" of him? Did he lose the "same ideal shape" that you mention? Have you bothered to look at the wheels in question? Are you now trying to tell me that I simultaneously stole the Aluminator hub design at the same time? Is there anyone else on the planet that can say (with a straight face) that the Abec 11 hub is a stolen Aluminator hub idea?
You said that I covered roughly 80% of what you were talking about in the other forum. What is the missing 20%? Here's what you wrote for little reminder:
"daggerwhore" On 4/14/01 DT wrote in from 172.149.xxx.xxx: Hey Chris, nice design! it looks like the one i shared with you before the Barret race last fall, are you going to make these? that would be seriously clever! Just like Abec 11. Do you plan to keep "borrowing" other peoples designs and ideas and expect that no one will notice? or should we just turn our heads the other way! Your abec 11 wheel is a knock off of Sean Mallard's wheel that he designed, with hub ideas that Rene came up with.

Well done Chris you changed the colour of the hub!!! I'm staggered that anyone would be so bold in pushing back the frontiers of skatebard colour coding technology!! Only bummer is I'll have to get some new leathers to match. Such audacious design engineering is however mitigated by your open admission that you designed the lip bomb, a truly square wheel that fell apart under pressure like the US Marine corps at Khe Sanh. If I was you I'd keep that one hush-hush, know what I mean?

Hmmm...OK. I can't help it. Gotta put in my 2 cents...
International longboarder is killer.
Compared to other skate mags, ILB is, page for page, the most packed-with-information magazine around. It's also the least expensive.
Unlike the rest of the skateboard industry, ILB welcomes the contributions of real riders, rather than simply publishing photos of the current "hero of the moment". They publish photos of "aggressive" style longboarding as well as carving/cruising. I've articles on downhill and park riding contests. I've seen an article about the technical stuff regarding wheels. The last issue had a cool historical thing about Madrid Skateboards. So much variety -- packed into such a relatively small magazine.
Michael and Tom are doing a great job with it. I would hate to see the mag under the control of a skate company -- which is the case with the other mags (most of 'em).
OK -- I think I pretty much avoided negativity.
Thanks for the great magazine, Michael and Tom.

If you've got the means to self distribute excellent, that's a tough road, but not undoable, maybe the market is big enough and growing enough for you to jump on,cool. You should be planning on selling at wholesale, below wholesale to disributors is ideal.Manufacturing costs should allow for this,if not then your either not doing the volume(see "means") or your wheels are to expensive, not a bad thing,in fact they're probabely excellent, and i can't wait to try them.If you're counting on your "friends" to all dig in and pay retail, hehe, at the same time they're figuring their "rich friend",double he he, can flow'em. You probabely know all this,it's just out there to be read.Good luck on your venture.I'd go out and skate but i'm exhausted from DH mountainbike video taking, retaking, and taking again lug the 48lb suspended beastbike back up the hill,up the wall.Sorry if i babbled, nappy time:)

I'm done wasting time that i could be spending out skating.

Hey Mike, believe me, I know how you feel. Sad little people can offer up nothing but criticism, for them to shine on their own appears too arduous a task. The most recent attack on me suggests that I have stolen Sean Mallard's wheel design, presumeably the "over 72mm" eXkate wheels. To the best of knowledge, the following is a factual comparison of the two products. I will leave it up the reader to determine if any plagiarism has occurred. They have one hub, Abec 11 has two Their hub has offset bearing seats, Abec 11's are centerset Their hub is narrower than both of the Abec 11's Their hub is taller than one of Abec 11's and shorter than the other Their hub has 8, wedge shaped spokes, the Abec 11 has 5 sculptured 3D pillars Their hub has a solid inner backwall, you can see daylight through the Abec 11 Their hub does not use the same mecahnical lock as the Abec 11 Their hub is black, the Abec 11 is neon orange They have three wheels using the same hub, Abec 11 has seven wheels using two different hubs They have two wheel heights, Abec 11 has four wheel heights, all different from theirs They have two wheels widths, both of which are different than the one Abec 11 width They have a wheel design with unsupported urethane past the hub, Abec 11 does not They have the same chamfer angle on the sidewall of their wheels, each different size Abec 11 wheel has a different chamfer angle They have a different size radius on the edges than the Abec 11 They have an asymmetrical wheel design, the Abec 11 is symmetrical They machine finish the backside edge, the Abec 11's are molded and then trimmed They use a Uniroyal urethane compound, the Abec 11's do not They have one (advertised) durometer formula, Abec 11 has three They use many different wheel colors, Abec 11 uses three shades of gray They don't put graphics or specs on their wheels, Abec 11's have both They hand pour their wheels, Abec 11 uses a unique production process which incporporates several important quality control devices
I realize that my accuser has only been skateboarding a little over a year now and wasn't yet born at the time that I had already designed an offset, radiused/chamfered edged wheel using a Uniroyal urethane compound. It was marketed through Belair Boards and called the Lip Bomb. I suppose that I could claim that anyone using that design and urethane maker and who uses the word "Bomb" in their wheel name are stealing my ideas. Instead I'll just close by saying "Been there, done that".

Not to get into a pissing match with "Elvis" (who at last notice was still dead) but I am the creator of the "Lame comic strip at the end". Thanks ever so much for your criticism. It's great to have such intellectual powerhouses such as yourself sit in judgement on the labors of others. I fully acknowledge that the last (and I do mean last) comic strip wasn't indicitive of the quality of my work, I can live with that. What I can't live with is bitching from someone who apparently has nothing better to do with their time than to tear apart the work of others. In short, "Don't like it, do something better." I know Michael Brooke and Tom Browne, they work their collective asses off on ILB. It may not be all things to all people, but big freaking deal. It's their magazine, the fruit of their labor. They have the support of pretty much anyone who is anyone in Longboarding. What do you have Elvis? A daughter that married Michael Jackson...but we're not supposed to get into character attacks. XXXOOO from Texas....Jackass.

I too was not pleased to see the price increase. ...always dig a bitch'n deal.
The thing is, they are still cheaper than 65mm kryto. The 74a (in my mind anyway) is the best wheel in its class. ...Still worth what you have to pay for 'em.
I wonder if other retails who carry the wheel, protested the price advantage of the factory direct dealer in question.

Ok, something that's been bugging me is the recent increase in price of a certain set of 65mm center-set transparent red 78a wheels from $21 to $26. Does this reflect an included set of 11mm spacers or did you guys just get greedy?

This forum will see little moderation from the webmaster, other than enforcement of the terms of the User Agreement. If a certain vendor's bluster causes controversy here, then so be it. This forum was created to keep this stuff out of the Reviews forums so it's working as designed. Btw, DT hasn't been assistant webmaster for several months now.

If you don't like the magazine. Create your own. Don't like the wheels. Create your own.

OK, we got control of our site. (It's lo-tech so cut me some slack) Stop by and have a look at the hydraulic dampened system. The production model uses aircraft hardwear. Again, it is NOT for slalom. We will be at the St. George and Pikes Peak events for sure (unless canceled) so look us up for a ride when you get there. Thank You Kurt
