Rene, I was the one that asked Chris about adding more stuff to his slalomers site, making a FAQ site of sorts. I just think it would help a lot of newbies out.
Being a longboarder, I got interested in slalom after Adam started the slalom forum. As a newbie, it was really confusing to understand the slalom forum. Names of 70's slalom equiptments that I never heard before, and why the camber, short decks, special wheels, etc. Never seen pumping, cone running, etc. I did a lot of digging (being obsessive compulsive) that most novice would probably give up. So anyways, I think a faq site would help newbies get up to speed so they can join the slalom forum and the experts on the forum don't have to answer the most basic questions over and over. I would even like to see a good FAQ site for longboarding, too. Whether anyone wants to volunteer their time is the question.

Damn I don't know how to make a box!!(I'm such a Knucklehead!)
Do you forfeit all possibilities to make something of yourself? oooops! There's that box thing again!!!
Okay ,Just say I do and hit your noggin w/ the fist and you're in! After I speak to the "board that is"

Read that again.. "4mm inboard from being on-center" this is not centered,so it will cone a little as it wears down. Also note "so coning as they wear COULD be minimized" means you have to be KNUCKLE HEADED enough to flip the wheels around! Only the riders that ride hard enough to worry about the facing of their wheels will flip them to change up the wear pattern..That's a captive market, slaves to to feeling of owning the best, fastest, most Knuckleheaded stuff they can put their feet on.The rest of us are going to be wearing these in all crooked. So,either way,the buyers of these wheels are going need new ones, some because they rode them too hard, but flipped them, and the rest because they never did flip them and coned them instead. Now,remember,a Tech-Weenie like myself can't ever be fully accepted into the brotherhood of Knuckleheads. So I'm going to go now and rotate my Stradas,so that they'll cone out evenly..

Why would I want to go to that site, if I'm into this sport, it's small as it is, and Adam has supported us for the long run, so posting a new site specific to slalom, I think is an insult to adam, I say use his site and support it, why compete, not Kool.
We have seen that posting picts. is no big deal (thanks to the numerous amounts posted by chris), so let's keep it to NCDSA we don't need to keep repeating ourselves, Adam has supported us so let's do the same...!
If your thinkin posting picts. is that big a deal ask Adam to update the pict. forum so we can do, or make it so he posts them for u...

Chris ,forget you ever read the post concerning the flip side prolonging the life!!! Make a performance wheel , and they will come!!! Gosh Darn PSR ...for a minute there, you were on the verge of being a Knucklehead!!!! Enjoy to all

Slalom Wheel

Mr. Chaput, consider this;A wheel shaped very much like a Road-Rider #6,but scaled down slightly.65mm tall X 47mm wide, using the core you mentioned placed just 4mm inboard from being on-center.The two flexible lips would then have slightly different angles of approach, and thus would give slightly different amounts of 'edginess'.Rotating the wheels inside-out wouldn't detract from performance,so coning as they wear in could be minimized.Keep your raduised edges to a minimum, similar to what you'd find on old Powerflexs or Snakes.Keep the compound hardness(say 78A,82A,88A,90A)availability simple, and keep the 'thane resilient enough to carry speed. The problem with most wheels now available is that they either have that crisp edged sidewall, but don't take being reversed too well;Or they are given a Conical edge that kinda causes them to feel 'fuzzy' at the limits of adhesion. Many are not good matches in the height/width ratios, and are just the wrong size to really pump through a slalom course.Lastly, there's a point on large cored wheels like the Strada when you've worn too much 'thane off the core, and then the wheel feels dead on rougher sufaces, while small cored wheels like the Kryptonics C-Series have bearing seating/core flex issues that can detract from performance. Those last criteria,if dealt with correctly, will give your wheel the 'balance' to be the Pirelli P-Zero of the skateboard world.

New Slalom Wheel!

Chris- I think it would be great to have a wheel similar in shape to the C-62's or the old RR Henry Hester's, but maybe somewhere in the 65 to 66 mm range in a couple different compounds. This type of wheel, with a lip, could easily be modified, as Duane stated, by surfacing down the lip. Using a standard spacer is a plus!
Are you coming to Seattle for the Red Bull race on August 19th? Would love to talk to you if you are in town. Come a day early and bring your slalom board! I still think Red Bull could pull off having a slalom event at this race, but that is another subject for another forum!
Later- Gareth

With a mold shaped like the Sims, the lip could be lathed off for narrower, faster front wheels, leaving a profile like the Stradas. The lip could be left on for grippier back wheels or where the surface dictates. The lip should not be supported by the core, but left to flex and conform to the road. A narrow core would be best. I think the 38mm core sounds good for faster wheels, might be a little big for extra-grippy wheels. 40mm without lip, fully supported, 50-52 mm with lip, sounds good to me.

Chris,
Stradas, Strada knock-offs and new versions of the Strada are everywhere. I think its time for a lipped wheel. Simfucious, Sims Snake idea is excellent or a beefed up cored Road Rider Henry Hester shape would also be interesting.
As racing expands there will be a market for really grippy wheels like the OJ slalom but right now I don't think the market is there yet.

Hey Chris, How About A Sims Snake Like Wheel. It would the same
size and shape as the original, but would have a core. The
Core would make them fly faster than they do now! The
Wheels would be 65mm High, 46mm wide, with different duros
to make it both a "front" and a "back" wheel. But my duro
of choice would be a 88a For a "Front" and 78a for a "back"
wheel

Chris, I'd like to see a smaller version (64mm approx) of the Super Mundos! the varying durometers ,would offset the need for much of a flex lip! Being as the hubs you have in mind are not center lined! Good on ya'!!!Knucklehead! Enjoy ,Dave G P.s Would you like one of the 4" Road Riders for your collection? Can't find the matches anywhere. Hell you could match it up w/ the 3 sport mags I sent ya, and ride in circles!!!!

HC, Slalomers.com is wide open for any kind of slalom information and images and video. I would be willing to create an anonymous ftp folder and allow people to upload pictures, videos, stories, contest results, product reviews, how-to's, rules and regulations, history, etc. It could include a product guide and section for newbies to get up to speed in pumping and carving. I'm up for anything, especially if it means someone taking charge and putting some creative energy into it. Jesse Hunt (Krypto booth at Morro Bay) has a bunch of great shots of the racing at Morro Bay. He's putting together a CD so I'll bug him for one.
Waah, waah, it really sucks that all the slalom events are happening on the East Coast. It's not fair to us on the Pacific. GBJG, move to California.
On a serious note, I want everyone's input here. I may have come up with a connection for outsourcing some hubs that would be suitable for slalom wheels. They're about 1 1/2" (38mm) in diameter and about 40mm wide and take a standard spacer. If you could only make ONE slalom wheel in several different durometers, what size and shape would you make it? The hubs are sideset. One "no brainer" wheel would be a Strada knockoff which would have vertical sidewalls, a hard edge and be between 62mm to 66mm tall. What about a flexible outer lip? How wide? How tall? Radiused edges? Sidewall angle? This is your opportunity to shape the products that you want to ride. So, what'll it be boyz?

With the decks coming out in the next few days, does anyone have pics? It would be cool to see them directly compaed to each other, both from a birds eye, and also a profile to see the camber depth.
Just a though.

I researched recently most new Down Hill and other longboard products, and I ended up buying almost all my new parts from SolidSkate.com. They have the most comprehensive set of decks, trucks and wheels of any online source I found. Use this info that I found to save time! SolidSkate: Decks, Trucks. Most in one place online... LongSkate: Hardware. They sell bearing spacers with the wheels! (8mm,10mm,12mm) and speed washers. LLLV.com: Cheap leathers San Francisco area: go to Skates on Haight for all. Visit your local skate shop first, but don't settle for punk gear. I'm holding it down in Oakland.....
