Wheels in confinement...
On 7/28/2001 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (24.148.nnn.nnn)

Paid $2.50 per wheel for a case of the Seismic Richter 7.1's which are essentially Stradas...
...actually have given a few sets away. Just lucky I guess.

I’ve got a set up with a set of the fresh (SC Road Weapons, $40.00 per set if you know where to get them) which I would loan upon request (and julikat wonders where all that “extra” money goes to).

You gotta admit, it is you twisting things...especially my words.
LYING?? uhmmm, don't remember doing that nor ever had a reason to.
It's interesting to see you are the person doing the complaining now---and ALOT of it. To be honest--IT appears you go to someone elses computer to protect your identity under a fake name, write furious words, forget some points, post again, forget more stuff and post yet again only to go back to your own computer and sit and wait for replys to your words only so you can go back to someone elses computer with your list of complaints in hand and start typing again. It's entertaining to think we might take you seriously.
I do appreciate your passion with longskate.com though -- odd as it may sound

In every corner market...
On 7/28/2001 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (24.148.nnn.nnn)

I can attest to this as well. It is so very difficult to convince the local mom-&-pop’s to put in an order for products that they can only imagine as space filling dust magnets. It is even more difficult to convince a distributor that purchases by the pallet or truckload to commit what would otherwise be more productive use of space to products that they do not see a demand for. I have relegated myself to provide slalom’s presence in a few selected stores by putting the products which I have purchased myself on display as a consignment opportunity but I do have a habit of bringing them out for a spin and so taking the newness out of the items I don't have multiple quantities of.
If anyone out there has product they would like to display in such a manner or have them used as demo equipment I for one (and I'm sure that there are many of us out there) would gladly invest in some of your products if there was a reasonable break. I realize that the manufacturers have to make money too but cracking the market in the Midwest or anywhere inland is going to be a real drag, otherwise we can just play the wait-and-see game and watch as Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis and the rest of the land locked metropolitan locations catch up in two years or maybe never.
The way I see it is that everyone has a part to play and everyone has to do their part from the consumer supporting the outlets of their choice, to the retailers providing fair market prices and not cutting each other’s throats just trying to make a buck, to the manufacturers who we soon will see lining up to provide us with the necessary products of our existence. The distributors... well they are just following the money too, and let me tell you, they like everyone else are listening for the freight train of that on coming BOOM!

Like a fool on the hill,

cornering the market
On 7/28/2001 Adam wrote in from (165.247.nnn.nnn)

r.mendino,

The sad fact is that the longboard/slalom market is still too small to support a local shop in every town,or even every 10th town. That's why web-based shops play such a key role. The Internet makes it just about free for them to 'serve' all areas. Believe me... if the demand was there you would see other web shops springing up, and then local shops after them. Free markets are efficient that way.

Old cheese

Swiss,

It is you who have missed the point all along, and people like Misterbill, and especially Roy, who have an appreciation of how business works and what's important here. But keep it up... it's mildly entertaining watching you make an ass of yourself, and in due course neither solidskate or poolskater will want to take your money either and you'll be buying your gear at SportMart again.

And btw, I will continue to cut these specialty vendors more slack and show loyalty to them because I, as do many others here, truly appreciate the unique products they bring us in exchange for the lowly sums they receive for their toil.

missing the point
On 7/27/2001 swiss wrote in from (207.172.nnn.nnn)

Roy, you're missing the point.

Just because a company supplies products that aren't in great demand doesn't give them the right to post (essentially advertise) fallacies of their services or their business practices. (it's easier just to be honest)

My intial problem was with their proverbial 'pot calling the kettle black'. When they were called on this, they managed to twist it into a bigger mess. (it's easier just to be honest)

While I think it was foolish and idiotic of a business/manufacturer to post childish banter against other businesses and people. I was more offended by their perception that we, the consumers, should cut them more slack than we would other businesses because of their supposed 'unique' and 'loyal' situation. I personally think that's bullsh#t .

I won't cut anyone slack that runs a small business (for love and/or money) that lies and behaves like an a-hole.

I will only be purchasing products from solidskate and poolskater from now on. (Because it's easier and more profitable to honest.)

Pricefixing ?
On 7/27/2001 roy wrote in from (213.122.nnn.nnn)

Price fixing !
get a life guys, there is NO money to be made from the hardware in this.
I fly hanggliders (well, planks actually) see http://www.footlaunched.com
these retail at about 7 - 11,000 $ and the retailers are seriously poor people, we (the punters) help out our vendors cos we WANT more newer better kit.
Chris Chaput develops wheels is / has been a world champion.
does he drive round in a ferrari? Nope.
having run (briefly) a web based HG business, you would not believe the percentage of complete C*&ts who try to get merchandise on duff / stolen / family credit cards.
Do the retailers get any compensation from the credit card companies? NO WAY!, who takes the losses through this ? The retailer does.
Cut these guys some slack.
I live in a small country a long way off the beaten track and am GRATEFULL to these guys for taking the time and making the effort to supply me with the toys I want.
If they are making a living at this, great, they deserve it.
I don't see whining hippies supplying me with 8mm spacers for the wheels I bought in the UK, these guys getting all the flack in the land of the stars and stripes DO and HAVE, THANK YOU!
I appreciate that to do this properly you need to cover costs / make a living. NOBODY is going to get rich suppling spacers / risers.
I appreciate your (the suppliers) efforts and hope you continue to help me spend my toy money on toys that make me feel good.

kindest regards
Roy

On 7/27/2001 roger wrote in from (63.212.nnn.nnn)

One place will have a lower price on this, another on that. Resalers will check out each other prices, so what. It is not price fixing.

There is so little money in this sport that it is just stoopid to think that there are big profits here. Both Solidskate and Longskate love the sport and show their support, I have no problem with paying retail, or others making a fair living.

You are not at K-Mart, Costco, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, or any other high volume discount place. These are small specialty shops supporting the sport.

Whoa! Hold on there Mr. Cheese. My post was not directed only at you. I was referring to the WHOLE thread of nasty posts. Which, by the way, did not start with you. I guess the severity with which I posted came off as antagonistic. It was meant to be more of a mockery of how serious this "Drama" had become. I am sorry that my casual use of "cheese" to reffer to all of the bullshit made it seem targeted solely at you. It was not. I will now consider you the "King of All Things Curded" and will not take your name in vain again. While I do believe that you need to take a good look at a "Legal Dictionary" for an indepth understanding of the conditions for "price fixing" to be met. You were not the one in mind when the "bashing and whining" was mentioned. I do have other specific issues with things you have said, but I will not clutter the board. Now that you have provided an email address I will continue this there.

I agree with Hugh and Jon. It's not only entertaining but it also feels kind of nice to not to be in the middle of it.

KMG, The micro-core will extend up and down about 2mm from the bearing (22mm) for a total OD of 26mm. The hub is designed so that it can be inserted into the wheel molds rightside up or upside down to produce both a sideset and centerset version of the same wheel (similarly, eXkate makes EZ Riders with two different offsets). The 70mm version will be the ultimate high traction wheel, perfect for carving, downhill, longboarding and buttboarding. The 76mm version will be the smoothest riding cruiser wheel and will last a lot longer. Three formulas x two hub orientations x two sizes = 12 more unique wheels.

Having a 26mm and 50mm hub means that if I split the difference, a 38mm hub would make a lot of sense. This is roughly the height of the quad skate hubs used in Stradas, Mundos and RaceCores. A lot of different wheels can be made from this hub. You know me, I like to race and so expect great wheels for speedboarding, slalom and performance longboarding. We'll be pouring our prototype Flywheels based on the new 70mm hubs (damn those babies look big!) next week and I am excited about finally having a big wheel that makes sense. Hang in there baby, we're getting closer...

I will answer your question regarding longskate/solidskate and your pricefixing accusation. Let me tell you all that solidskate and longskate don't ever mention pricing issues and never have because they don't occur between us- it's never even been a subject we've discussed ever and I never said we did, but somehow it's been led to believe that's what's been going on. I will clarify my thoughts MORE before posting on this forum or this site for that matter
EVERYONE, there is not and never has been a price fixing situation on longskate. I've actually never even thunk about it and didn't even know the definition of it until now. Sorry if you were lead to believe there are or were price fixins going on from my post or any other

To all the readers of this great site I'd also like to say sorry for what i did. I publicly had an issue with a nameless person and I appologize to all who were unfortunate enough to read this ongoing legacy of negativity.
I'm outta here to go do something positive now - skate -

Hypocrites Corner
On 7/26/2001 Muenster wrote in from (64.236.nnn.nnn)

Where do I begin...where do I begin??? And why can't I get a straight answer???
Let's start with MisterBill's post.
-Why do you have such a problem with my "inflamatory remarks" and not Rene's initial accusations of Poolskaters "lo-balling"??? Do you know for a fact Pool skater was low-balling??? How do you know Longskate didn't inflate the price???
-By your own definition shouldn't you "sit down and shut up"??? You aren't posting with your real name??? How do I know you don't work with Longskate or are their friends??? Anyone can create an anonymous email address and still not be identified.
-Why would I use my real name when criticising a company that sponsors races I might attend??? Go read some posts in the speedboarding forum and come back with that answer. (hint: look under Biker, Dregs, and EDI)

Here's the Merriam-Webster definition of price-fixing.
price-fix·ing
Pronunciation: 'prIs-"fik-si[ng]
Function: noun
Date: 1920
: the setting of prices artificially (as by producers or government) contrary to free market operations

Now here is Marc's exact quote: "We keep each other in check out of respect by not low balling each other
on anything ever. this keeps the value UP, keeping the manufacturers happy and providing them with enough $$ to create new andexciting stuff for US to SKATE. WHY? because we all have overhead and have to keep the standards where they are so we can keep on keepin on.."

NOW let ME tell you a little about the business world Misterbill!
Manufacturers SET the price and value on the products they sell to their vendors. This is called the wholesale price. A manufacturer will INCLUDE their operating expenses (advertising, RESEARCH and DEVELOPMENT, etc.) in their wholesale price. It is not standard business practice for a vendor (i.e. skate shop, surf shop, etc.) to give the manufacturer more than the wholesale price for "new and exciting stuff for us to skate" and then pass this expense along to the consumer. Misterbill, when you buy your Happy Meal from McDonald's do you give them some extra money for "new and exciting stuff" in your next Happy Meal???

This makes me think they are setting prices artificially. (Now go back up and look at the definition of price fixing.)

I only have one bone to pick and that is with the remarks of Rene and Marc posted here recently . I don't see why they won't respond to the questions honestly.

NO, I won't take my comments to a private spot. They are making public statements that aren't true. And I will keep exposing anyone that thinks this is appropriate behaviour.

I thank Adam for having the integrity to keep my posts here.

And Rene, why don't you look at your previous post and see who actually started the 'crybaby bullshit'.

On 7/26/2001 Hamm wrote in from (65.224.nnn.nnn)

i feel the need to touch on this since it was my original post that started all this garbage. If you search for my original post, you will not find it. I asked Adam to remove it quite some time ago because it was clear that it offended some people and when push comes to shove; I'm really a nice guy.

I stand my original theme. "Support those who support you". This is the USA and a FREE MARKET. Its up to you the consumer to decide where you are getting your support from. I just felt it was worth reminding skaters that alot of what we have going for us right now is because Longskate.com & Solidskate.com went out on a limb and poured money into products and advertising when longboarding was alot more 'fringe' than it is now. ILB magazine 'might' not even exsist without the 3 to 4 full page ads that Longskate/Fluid/PowerPaw pay for each issue.

The point was not to say that anybody else sucks and cannot provide you with good service and prices. Again, thats for you to decide.

**Its true that I, in defense of my good friend Glen/Solidskate.com made an inflamatory remark in which I stated that Poolskater.com had lifted an image from Solidskate.com. Weither or not that actually happened, the image has been changed and I have moved on.** Adam pointed out to me that I have should have handled the situation via email and he's right.

Again, I have nothing against Poolskater and could care less if he runs his business out of his garage or a storefront in a shopping mall. Hell, if I was not so broke I'd buy Strada's from him too.

Abec 11 Wheels
On 7/26/2001 Chris Chaput wrote in from (63.168.nnn.nnn)

David, Sorry for taking so long to answer your question. All Abec 11 wheels use the "standard" spacer which is 400/1000 of an inch or 10.16mm. Most people just refer to this as a 10mm spacer. There are plenty of new wheels on the not too distant horizon already in the works. For now we are working on getting all of the big 50mm and 70mm centerset core wheels available.

Phase II will use a "micro-core" and be a high traction series of wheels which include a larger contact patch and softer formulas.

Phase III will focus on wheels that use a mid-sized core for downhill, slalom, luge and general purpose longboarding.

The process of getting quality products to the market place is agonizingly slow for us "need it now" types. Hang in there. The best is yet to come.
