Michael, I agree that the strada is a great starting point for a slalom wheel. I would keep the durometers the same starting with 78a/82/88/92 and keep the hub similar for speed and stability and also keep the size 62/66mm. Those specs will work well o most courses and surfaces. You may consider giving it a softer lip, somewhere between a classic c-62 and a strada for quick adapatbility.I'd keep the spacers size at 8mm, this way most axles will still have a bit room left for extra washers if you need to widen them a bit (consider supplying those 8mm spacers as well) for more stability. I would also consider the following; A taller and softer wheel for rough and fast super giant (70/72mm- 74 & 78A) and also a very small and narrower wheel for tight /hybrid slalom such as a 62mm / 32mm (instead of 42mm)- 82/88/92A for extra speed at the straighter courses- the GYROS in the 70's were like similar and used to be the best and fastest slalom back in the day. this could also sell well on the european sector since they like the tight and straighter courses. Rememeber that slalom is still progressing and re-evolving and so far we've had mostly GS races but tight hybrid and super tight courses are doomed to come back shortly- a specific wheel for that would be great as well.

I'm gonna tell you what I'm doing now, so upon their release I won't be looked at as a copycat or a thief. My wheels are going to be round. If there is a patent on that design, please contact my lawyers immediately. They will be made of urethane and have hubs. If this is someone elses brainchild, please let me know and I will give you full credit. They will use a standard spacer (400/1000" , 10.16mm). That is definitely not a new idea but I just couldn't resist. They will come in different colors and consist of different urethane formulas. I wish I had thought of that one myself. They will be sideset. I'm truly sorry if I lack originality on that design concept. They will have a certain amount of urethane that is not unsupported by the hub and the lip of the wheel will deform slightly in turns for better traction. Okay, I do seem to remember seeing that on another wheel so I guess I'm kind of borrowing that too. The hub will be designed to minimize the mass farthest away from the axis of rotation for quick spin up and may be orange in color. That will be my legacy. Fast and orange. I will call them "OJs". Now that's original!
Seriously though, look for a 38mm x 38mm lightweight polyurethane hub and a 64mm x 44mm wheel in 74a, 78a and 86a formulas. They will be sideset, take a standard spacer and have fairly hard edges and a stiff-flex lip. They will rock. You will ride them or be left in the dust. Coming to a cone fest near you this fall.

you may also want to consider knocking off the
strada 62mms (lower and wider than 66s), or the Krypto C-62's (again lower and wider) or the cs 66's (same height but with flex lip).
I'll take them each in 78, 84 , 88 duros.

Hey Guys,
Bummed I missed SF. So is Brad. As most of you guys know, the boys over at Gravity are diggin' the slalom thing, and the people, events, locations, etc... We want to put a little more in to it, and are seriously considering doing a slalom line of wheels. You guys are the main reason why we are doing this, and would appreciate any input that you can give on the matter. We are looking into a 66mm Strada mold re-issue. Any thoughts or comments on this? Durometers, colors, anything? You can send your thoughts directly to us via the link above, or post them here where we lurk. Thanks in advance. See you guys soon. BTW - we also have done quite a bit of work on a wheel for "Cliff Slides" based on the old Powell Cubics. More info on that to come.
Thanks for listening, now we're all ears,

I've started to digitize the Deplo decks for CNC production. First board off the table was the Calamari 'S'..(slalom deck). This one will get it's first workout at the Slalom contest in Golden Gate Park on August 12th.
No fancy cambers to dial into your weight, just a good responsive board for technical to Giant Slalom courses.
This one will be available as a complete with the RII 150mm trucks and Power Paw wheels

I'm please to announce that the Abec 11 wheels have complete about 10 wet runs and 10 dry runs at the X-Games Streetluge event in Philadelphia, PA and we're still in the hunt. The field has been cut down to the top 24 riders in the world and it's anyone ballgame. With 6 guys on the hill at the same time, anything can happen.
The Gold medal is a longshot for this rookie, but the Abec 11's may be enough to give me the edge. Win or lose, rain or shine, look for the bright orange hubs on ABC and ESPN.

Hey everyone, just so you all know i am 'The Man' over here at comet who presses every single one of the slalom boards you guys are hootn and hallaring about. Just wanted to say that i'm making all of them with a little bit of love! I'm super stoked that people believe these boards to be the upcoming of the best construction in the industry. Me and jonathon are working on getting the cosmetic appearance of the deck a litle smoother for you. Stay tuned to new prototypes in the future as i want to awe you guys with my 'Killa pressing style'!! AHAHAHAA As a street skater, i origionally thought slalom was a little dull, but considering every thing i'm seeing its starting to lure me in! I'm sure i'll see most of you at the party saturday night and soon up in the golden gate park so you can laugh at my pathetic street skating ass when i slam all over your cute little cones! later! keep skating and always keep it real!

herbn - I feel your pain. I ordered a set of c-bombs and 201 trucks directly from exkate back in June. The box arrived in a timely manner - the trucks were fine, but the wheels were obviously from different batches and one wheel had a nasty air bubble in it. I called exkate and got through to probably the same burnout that you have been dealing with (I won't mention names). He said he had a fresh batch and would send em right out to me, so I went up to the post office and shelled out 6 bucks to mail the defective wheels back. Here's where the story gets long, so I'll get to the point, which is the same as yours. These guys are just not straight-up. I have literally been lied to over the phone. Based on my experience with this, we're all MUCH better off getting these (fine) products from vendors like Longskate.....Marc was able to get me a set of M-80's in 3 days. I'm not the type to bash in a forum like this, but I've REALLY had a poor experience purchasing from Exkate. (but I love their stuff!)

I've been making my own angled riser pads or at least converting the current production models into a much steeper slope for the rear truck and one of a much less angle for the front assembly. Making the risers has inspired a new product that now is in the early development stages. My choice of trucks at the moment has been the Indy 101's just because they were there. In the future I would like to cut down or customize a variety of other trucks to find the appropriate combination.

Foot placement recommendations: Color Graphic goes on the bottom, the long Indiana black logo goes on top (though I'd like to try this board upside down just to see what it would be like). Maurus placed his front foot way out in front right below the truck bolts with only a slight angle to his stance necessitating a foot block to maintain his foot placement and I think his rear foot was planted right on top of the rear truck bolts (not 100% on this). My preferred foot placement was somewhat different. While I also placed my rear foot over the rear truck bolts, I felt that my front foot worked a bit more efficiently if placed a little further back (by about 2 ½ inches or so) at almost the highest point of the chamber built into the board between the arch where the board turns up in the middle and the front truck bolts. I found myself using the low point where the rear foot sits, and the high point where the camber's high point exists; by working one against the other to get a sort of crank effect. This deck design is truly ingenious, you now don't need to have a wide deck area to get the leverage needed to be able to get action off of the front trucks, and this in turn allows you to set your front foot turned more forward, ultimately letting you cut closer to the cone while maintaining a more aerodynamic profile. Your findings could very well be different, as this is how it seemed to work best for me. Oh, and the label under where the rear trucks were to be mounted actually said s-shap...
This would not have been possible if it weren't for Dave G's generosity in lending out his board to his fellow team mates before he'd g
