I just checked both sites and they have seismics. My question is; does longskate have a different version than solidskate? The ones on solidskate have the traditional axle and nut, whereas the ones pictured on longskate, have the seismic axle and screw typical of the last generation of seismics. What gives? Steve M yeah, you can call me a knucklehead.

should work great for the foamys, everything else;i think countersunk is better, even soft wood like birch, just really countersink it, don't just pull it in with bolt tension, that cone of surface area, contact area is actually quite big,and doesn't just push onto the surface of the wood.

Just look up "bolts and nuts" in the yellow pages, you should find industrial bolt supply houses. They sell mostly commercially but they'll sell to you, too. You can get whatever you want. I used to buy grade 8 hex-head mounting bolts for my street deck as my 190 lbs was likely to snap mounting hardware on big drops.

Went into a "Level" boardshop in Vancouver to ask for mounting hardware. Guy pulls out little packages of 1" counter sink screws--for six bucks! I shook my head and asked the guy what the difference was between this set and one I would make up at the Canadian Tire store. "Uh nothing I guess." Just the answer I needed. Hit the store (I guess equivalent to a Home Depot or Home Hardware and was greeted with a HUGE selection of hardware of all lengths. Ended up cutting 'em off to length, but they were cheap and won't eat up the deck. I know it was said below, just thought I'd share another story of dealing with a shoestore posing as a skateboard shop...
Thanks Chris, I was starting to think it stood for Ancient Skateboard Racers or Arthritics' Slalom Revival or something (apologies to arthritics--I've seen the pain...)

ASR = Action Sports Retail. A couple of times a year, all the vendors bring out their new products (or same old crap) and set up booths at a huge convention center and shmooze and take orders and place orders and try to scam on the bikini models. They are sometimes not open to Joe Public or kids and so getting in can be like trying to get backstage passes at a rock concert. You see some pretty wild stuff when all the big names in the industry are there trying to "out-cool" one another. A definite must see.

Adam, you can find longer 2" mounting screws at www.latterdayskates.com They aren't exactly truss heads but they come with 'finishing caps' that don't countersink the screw. And they don't mess up the griptape.
Chris, thanks for posting the pic of the Blackbird.

GBJ and Chris Chaput, Thanks for the blackbird and turner downhill info. Don't you think that eyball shape would be nice and efficient for a slalom board with the truck drilled further toward the front and back? What does ASR stand for (I know, if I have to ask...)? That old stroker picture might be a nice addition to the turner site, information wise, not to mention the scans page, interest wise... MH

The Turner Blackbird
For more mouth watering pictures check out Ed Economy's site at http://www.vintagesurfnskate.com. I was just standing on the black downhill board you saw on the Turner site, checking it's flex characteristics (on the carpet with socks on). Let's just say it's a little nicer than a Roughcut. Look for us at Booth 142 at the ASR show in San Diego, Thursday through Sunday. Turner and Abec 11. I wonder if that would be a fast combo?

Adam, I've got some from the guy at Poolskater.com. He's got them with hex tops too, not the regular phillips tops. I really like them for longboarding because it lets me feel where i am on the board without looking down. I think you have to email and ask him if he still has them, I never have seen them listed on the webpage.

Do any vendors out there sell mushroom style (i.e. truss head) screws in longer lengths, like 1.75" and 2.0 and even 2.5"? Longskate has them (http://www.longskate.com/cgi-bin/products.cgi?name=upc_code&value=411865520754&format=3), but only in 1.25".

Custom Solid Wood Longboards

I am making handmade classic longboards out of solid hardwood that I would like to sell. So far I have made and sold about 15 of them, and they are all numbered. They are from 45" to 52" long and I have used maple, cherry, walnut, purple heart, yellow heart, and jatoba. I am handcarving designs (mostly flame variations) on the deck and doing some exotic wood inlays. I can also do your own custom design. I use 180mm Randall II trucks and Kryptonics 70mm wheels. Trust me that these boards are truly awesome and ride so smooth and stable. If you are looking for a classic old-school cruiser, this is it!! Not only do these boards ride sweet, but they are a work of art that will seriously turn peoples heads. I am just trying to get started selling them and I'm sure you will be pleased with the quality, feel, and price that I am offering them at. For more information about prices, designs, or seeing some pictures, email me at sethsan@msn.com or call (541) 349-9144.

Mad Hack, The board you're seeing on the Turner Downhill site is a Turner downhill board, not a blackbird. It's a beautiful board nonetheless, and include some carefully considered, contoured ground-effects on the underside. If you're memory goes back to the mid-70s, you might recall a Stroker ad with a photo of Tommy Ryan standing in the gates of a downhill race (red Turner leathers and a blue Norcon helmet). It is a head-on shot and he is standing on a big, black, highly-polished board with a Stroker "truck" on the front and tall narrow wheels. The board you are seeing on the Turner site is of the same type as the board in the Stroker ad.

Is that deck pictured at the Turner Downhill site the legendary blackbird? I've never seen one, but whatever it is I can't believe nobody ever thought of it before. Next to those beautiful things Gareth Roe has been producing the purity of line on that eye-shaped Turner is the most beautiful thing I've seen in awhile... MH

Call me silly but isn't that deck a blank Fluid Stinger? If so it is a great "first" slalom deck. It still feels like a kickflipper skateboard while getting you used to a smaller/flexy deck. Great!

I also think that the starter kit is an excellent idea. I'm curious about the trucks, though. They almost look like the new Seismic 135's, but we all know that, while these trucks have been supposed to be available since February, and most recently early August, they simply do not exist. Many promises have been made as to when Seismics were going to be available, and all have been broken. Are these trucks FINALLY available, or is this just one more promise? Sorry to be such a skeptic, but Seismics have off the market for about 9 months. I hope that the drought is over.

Relax Folks. The flanges in the cones are very small and very thin. A beginner slalom rider will have no trouble with these cones. Guys, give me some credit I've been doing this slalom thing since the early 1970's, I think I know what I'm doing. As per the red springs, our first 100 boards have red, the next batch will have lighter springs. And there are wedge pads. Less talk...more do!

I noticed that the Seismics in the starter kit are red, too firm for most, especially for kids. Perhaps silver springs should be included. Also, how about a pair of wedge pads?
