i think u'r best bet would be the s9's, because the compound that s9 uses seemes to be a bit "stickier", and i'm debating to myself that 9-balls are acually softer than 78a, i'm pretty positive of it acually.

Bones spacers (10mm)

It's not the fault of Bones. 10mm is the spacer size for most skateboard wheels. All the wheels that shortboarders ride use spacers this wide, as well as sector 9 70mm and below wheels. The 8mm and 7mm spacers are needed when you have a wheel that is based on a quad roller skate hub. For quad roller skates, 8mm is most common.

Sarah, the spacers that come with the swiss bones are too big for most wheels, which will need a 7mm length spacer with 8mm internal diameter/bore. The length of the swiss bones spacers are 10mm, so you'll either need to machine them down or get different ones. I posted this same query on the "bearings" page a while back and ended up machining mine to the right length.I don't know why bones do this. Does anyone else know why?

We have a downhill event in the UK soon, and the weather forecast is looking bad. What are the best recommendations for wheel size / durometer / type if you have to race in the rain? I've got Super G's, Sector 9 78a's, Kryps and Karma 73mm (not sure of durometer) to choose from.

I went to Skates on Haight (in San Francisco),i picked up these clear 78mm 78a wheels for about $33 dollars. The owner said at they were Skate your ass off Wheels, he also told me that he has sold a lot to local skaters. So far they have been great, they super grippy and go hella fast. Does anyone know anything about these wheels?
They are blank clear wheel with offset sliver plastic hubs.

Ya, they are pretty heavy. Last year my friend (wait, I think he still does) rode his sector 9 pintail with these wheels around town like normal wheels. They are damn heavy, but its pretty cool to bomb normal hills and just ride around town with them. You can float up curbs and threw all those really long streaches of dirt that most citys have. But when it comes to "dirt boarding" they are pretty much useless outside of bombing long dirt and grass hills. The walk back up is just way to much.

Speed Rings and Things

Sarah, the rings will speed things up a little. You said you lubed them?No need to,really, and oil may attract more dirt.Just wipe 'em clean(or if you do add some lube on the washers, use spray silicon,as it dosen't let dirt stick). The rings biggest benefit is that there's very little contact between the bearing(none against the bearing Shield)and the washers, and a precise fit against the nut and truck hanger. This lets the bearing do it's spinning thing, with less chance of dirt getting down in there, and lets heat dissipate quickly too. They are well worth the money if they keep just one bearing from getting wrecked. As for the Bones, keep in mind that on rougher tar,the harder urethane won't absorb vibration as well, and thus be and feel slower. On smooth, fresh tar, they will shine.Keep working on getting low,and try pushing those Bones into slides. That's a really good wheel for predictable slides, and should grip enough to keep you out of trouble.too.

Speed Washers

I guess this is the correct forum to talk about speed washers. I just recently put a full set (8) on my board. Before I only had 4 because that's how many came on my trucks. I followed the setup instructions on Bob's page & I have them on fine. Will these affect the speed of the board in any way? I ask because I added the washers at the same time as I changed wheels. Will it make a difference if I lube between the washers and where they sit on the bearings? I previously lubed the space between the hanger and the washers a little bit each time I cleaned off the crud in my wheels & on my bearings. It just seemed like I should for some reason.

Bones Bombers68mm85a VS. Krypto Route 65 78a

My Bombers seem a bit slower than my Kryptos downhill and in the Bowl. I like the way they feel, though. I guess the roads I ride are not as smooth as I thought from riding the Kryptos-I'm thinking this is why they are going slower. I can slide a little on the Bombers but I really just need to loosen up and go for it to learn to slide, I think. On the B.B.'s, I really like how the hole where the axle nut goes is not very deep-almost flat. On the Kryptos I used to get a lot of crud down in there.

My hubby just got a set of wheels yesterday, but the guy at the shop knew nothing about them, maybe you guys do. I will describe them...they are clear red urethane with black plastic hubs, offset. They don't say anything on them, BUT they did have a small made in Taiwan sticker on them, hmm...they are 70mm and I would say 85-88 durometer-the guy didn't know-just my educated guess. The guy also said he got them from the same place he orders his blank shortboard decks. so, are these a certain kind of wheels, or just a set of generics? Thanx guys-Sarah

I believe Power Paws are headed by the same dudes who run www.longskate.com/ Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On a related note: The new orange alluminators. Is the orange urethane a different/new durometer (like the reds are 78a and the whites are 74a...) ?
I've heard that alluminator "hubs" can be recycled. Like, when yer set gets worn down, you can send em back and they'll refurbish them for less than new-price. Anyone done this? How much does it save ye?
Thanks sK

I got the clear 73mm 78a with chrome hubs. These wheels are great! Big but not heavy. great urethane compound, and this I believe is probably the key to great wheels, high rebound, solid, not mushy.
These things are fast and easy for cruising around town, DC. And they just keep on going faster and faster down hills even slight inclines. All in all a great great wheel.
Previously I had some "element fire" wheels which looked just like 70mm hawaii k-o's, centered hubs, red swirl. Soft heavy and not as fast, they are smooth and can run over anything, anyone interested can have them for $10 +postage

Got another run in on these pups,My current technique seems to evolved towards appreciating wheels that have a real resilient grippy ride.I was carvin at that limits of traction with a glove down as an outriger to make the slide more consistant, and just in case, alternating hands on frontside and backside turns,The smaller size(than Cherrys)accellerates quickly. No noticable uneven wear.
