i live in wilmington too. do you do just long boards? i have been doing carving w/ my oldschool board and R-II. i do not see how anyone around here can do these steep narrow roads with a long board with out having to take out life insuance. do you regularly skate at high speeds? since i put R-II on my short board i found that it opened up some fine skating that i could not accomplish w/ my Indy's 215, which i want to sell.

Gripy wheels ???

Could it be possible to put my Xtreme XT's in a turner to make them flat so i get more grip out of them, The kind of nice black smooth grippy asphalt is not to common here in Norway, less rare is bigo cracks and reparations in the roads so i really need some big and grippy wheels,
Is there any other maker of rubber "on road" wheels on the market then Summit and Xtreme, they are to expensive i think and i don't want the bearings that comes with the Xtreeme S/S wheels

I got some of those to demo so I did and I found them pretty fast but not stable or at all safe. Also Putting these things together is near impossible and hard to get to work.(remeber I had a Demo too) Made of hard plastic and that is kinda scary. Very overpriced as well. I recomend waiting for the bugs to get worked out.

XT dirt wheels

These wheels are fun and are heavy like hugh said. Pain to pump but best going down hills. I took a 40 inch board and randal 2's and i use it to butt board instead of standing up because if u fall u will get hurt. I butt board down on steep dirt terrain. I get going fast down these trails and caught some air.

Anybody here ever run or try the Kwiksplit deal? I've got cruisers, carvers, and park boards. The only thing I don't have is a speed board and a lloonngg(54"+)board and I'm toying with incorporating this 8 wheel contraption on either of them when I build them, but would love some imput from somebody who has expierience with them. Thanks Dave

XT wheels

Nick,
I have a set of the XT dirt wheels... They seem to perform the best on hard packed dirt, and are capable of going faster than you'll want to. I have crashed at 25 on the dirt (big ouch)
They are well made and durable. I think XT stands for extra heavy, because these things weigh a ton.
Perfomance on the street is non-existant... They do okay on steep grass hills if the ground is hard packed. They get slow on the soft stuff.
They do great on going over sections of lawn when sidewalk riding. Probably go over small dogs and kids too.
Don't be fooled by the "Extreme" type wheels being sold on e-bay... they are not the same. Not that they are bad, but they are not the XT's... (buyer beware...)
They are a lot of fun for playing, but not on a transportation board! My two cents... (I am cheap that's why you get so much for two pennies) HR

Hi Matt....any update on that softer front/harder back experiment??? (I have 2 diff't sized wheels so it doesnt work puttng cherry's on the fron and 65mm's on the back.) Lemme Know.. I'm interested in how it turns out (and a good idea by the way).

speed check

Well, if you could check your speed then you would be under more control. Lets say your out there in the last 4th of a slalom course and you where going kind of fast. This speed made it kind of hard for you to keep your balance and alot of control in your turns making the last part of your run rather sloppy. So you go scrub a little speed off, make better tigher and in control turns, and then win the race the end

I read an issue of ILB where Cliff Coleman(sp?)won a GS by using sliding techniques to scrub speed,so under some circumstances it works great. If I remember right his time was alot better than the guy that came in second.

Slalom speed check??

I'm not an expert, I just play one on this board. But it seems to me if you were in a slalom race and your rear wheels were "whipping out" that you'd finish last. ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS?

What type of slalom course do most people like to check their speed? A slide check would alter your rythym on a tight course. What are you getting at?

Here is an idea I have been thinking about lately. Most manufacturers make one wheel in different hardness'. Many people like to slide and check their speed on a slalom run. What about using the same size wheel with harder wheels in back so they slide easier and some softer in front so that they bite the turn and then whip you out. I have never tried this but am going to in the near future..will keep you posted. ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS? -Matt

odd sized wheels

oddly enough I have tried something like this. I put some krypto 86a hawaii 70mm wheels in back with 65mm route 65's in front. The turning radius was changed slightly because the back wheels were larger and the board had a "dragster" feeling to it but overall I could ride the same. The problem with putting a heavier wheel in front is more rotational mass. You have to decide by riding whether the decreased acceleration time is less then the increased speed you will recieve. Any other questions? I'm more than happy to help. -Matt

Ant,there's no big worries with your 65mm/70mm setup. It'll look a bit odd,but should ride just fine.

how about flats? you think it'll have any effect and flat crusiing? you think it'll be harder to push? im thinkints not such a bad idea...the only problem is that my 36" boards gonna be at a slight up hill angel...about turning and stuff...you mentioned the degree of turn...is it gonna be bad?

It would probabely make you go as fast as a full set of 67.5mm wheels and alter truck geometry by fractions of a degree, depending on the length of your board.

Question: Wheel Size

What would be some problems if i did this. Put two 70mm in the front, and two 65mm in the back. is this back? im thinking it itll help me go faster down hill because of the wieght...but what is wrong or good about this. im asking because i can ony get two wheels right now.
Thanks
