Sector Nine Wheels

What is up with all this talk about people hating Sector Nine? I mean this guy writes about how they ripped him off, he tells everyone that S9 sucks, and then it turns out the guy was a jerk off when he wrote to S9, and S9 didn't even make the wheels. It's clear that S9 wasn't at fault, and this guy is an idiot. I mean, can we please just drop it?

About melting wheels

Thanks to rené for saying all that interresting details about
bearings and cores, just a short notice, i saw in the past when
i was using the incriminate S9 wheel or kryptos that when they
were used and conical they didn't melt anymore, at least at speeds
under 40 mph while, when they were new they melted as soon as you
went fast ? Paradoxical, because the smaller and used a wheel is ,
the fastest it turns and overheats !
So there's probably a mechanical problem between i can't explain
at the moment, maybe rené could help us !
Just an advice my Friends when you buy a wheel, just read what is
written on the inside face, sometimes and particularly on kryptos
and old S9 70mm it was written : 30 MPH MAX ...

I dont think its fair to take sides with sector 9 or sean. i am not so sure i believe sector 9, they probally get thousands of emails a year, why would they remember one from 7 months ago. I personally dont like them because i feel that they dont put much back into the sport, or at least not in the U S.

Just to add a bit more, bearings will heat up and melt the wheel core, I've seen it happen (thats why lube is so important)...I repped krypto for 9 yrs. and we had some problems back when, also when I was shooting some shots of Bob P., The Duck, Wade Sokol, Bob was on some kryptos and I mentioned the wheel melt down,and he said "I have never melted a krypto" that afternoon he did his first one and now belives me. Point is that core you guys are talking about was/is the same envy uses and the others I mentioned, so stay on cherry bombs or power paw's as those cores are made of better bondable material (estelock) its a urethane based nylon, cause nylon won't bond to urethane, it holds onto the hub cause of the mechanical interlock..the Aluminators don't have a mechanical interlock because they use a patented system called "chemfused" that makes the urethane stick to the hub, its stronger than the urethane (tensil) so the thane would split befor the bond would.

its amazing how this story evolved, shortly after my midday trip to the site ,Sector calls to see if I need any more stuff(product to you adults),the page was still on my screen ,so I clue them in on the goings on,the various sides of the issue and they couldn't wait to get on and defend themselves. They have been pretty cool businesswise and I guess they're the biggest target for problems like this.

This is in response to Seans continued attempt at slandering our company. First of all, we do not even make a red route 70mm wheel, that is made by an entirely different company (who I will not mention) not associated with Sector 9 at all. We have never even purchased or assembled any of our boards with these wheels. Maybe, the store you bought the board from assembled the board themselves?? Do you honestly feel we should replace something we did not make?? Trust me, if we make it, we stand behind it 100% and I'm sure that many of you out there reading this have experienced the true customer service we provide. Sean, why would you not ride and wait 6 months for a company to give you a $7.00 wheel that they don't even make or sell. In my opinion, if you were to channel this ill perceived negative energy into some productive positive energy. This wouldn't be such a big deal, because you would finally realize this was not our product and in doing so you would be able to move on, get a job and afford the $7.00 wheel. Before you slander the next company who didn't do anything wrong. Try getting creative and working your freaking ass off for the next 6 years of your life and maybe, just maybe, you will be part of the next company getting the short end from somebody that has never even met you. Finally, if I could squeeze a tissue through these tiny fiber optic lines to wipe your tears, I surely would.

I totally agree with you Chris. The way I see it, if retailers
are supposed to be the middlemen between end consumer and
manufacturer, they should be the only ones to deal w/ the
manufacturer. If there is a manufacturer's warranty, let the
shop deal with the warranty after you turn in the broken part.

A non-skateboarding example: My CD-ROM drive broke under
warranty. I asked the shop where I bought it about warranties,
they had crappy service and said I'd have to talk to the
company. I did, and it would entail paying shipping on a drive
that shouldn't have broken in the first place. I didn't want to.
I bought a different (more reputable) brand of drive.

Defects in General

I've been coming to this site for about two and a half years now, and there's one thing that I've always thought was strange. How come whenever somebody buys a defective product, they seem to think it is their responsibility to go directly to the manufacturer. If you bought a clock radio at Sears, and it broke after a week, you wouldn't write a letter to Sanyo asking for a new one. You'd haul your butt down to Sears with your receipt, they'd give you a new one.

Why should it be any different with skate gear? If you buy a set of wheels, and the core on one of them pops out the first week, take it back to the guy who sold it to you. If he's reputable, he should just give you a new wheel, and your problem's solved. If he's not willing to do that, you should take your business elsewhere.

Manufacturing defects occur in almost any product. If there's an obvious defect, I would think that it is the retailer's responsibility to replace the defects, and then they go to the manufacturer/distributer or whatever and get a replacement/credit. Remember you didn't buy your skateboard from Sector 9, you bought it from Joe's Skate Shack. Joe should stand behind what he sells just like any Sears or any other retail business.

On obvious defects,wheels breaking in half,smooth deck delaminations, or trucks cracking with no apparent stresses, companies have always been very good,and I'm a shop owner,they usually treat the kids(actual customers and true source of all revenue)even better, By the way I think spliting wheels happen when there is a half finnished wheel in the mold at the end of a batch and the person reloading the machine doesn't pull it out and just put another batch of urithane in the machine.

There is an age old adage. "The customer is always right." They guy just wanted a wheel. It shouldn't be that hard to replace. For god sakes he took a dive thanks to their wheel. The least they could do is send him one. I'm sorry but that is terrible customer service.
If you want service see Mr. Randal. I split a bushing on my R2's. I emailed Randal to find out what kind he uses. He said just give me your address I will send out new ones. There was a new set and some stickers on my door two days later. Take note S9 people. If you can't
keep up with your customers then you should hire someone to do it. It is really important if you want return customers. I don't skate S9 products, I might in the future, I have nothing against them but I think this kid got screwed. Kids like him keep you in business, don't forget that.
Appologies if you aren't a "kid" marcus.

author. Not illegal, just rude.)

Just chill. Plenty of people (including me) have been totally
satisfied w/ Sector 9 products. You can be too.

Sector nine wheel

Sector9 buyers beware...........

Just wanted you all to know a little story. I bought a set of sector9 wheels from a local skate shop, and everything was peachy for 5 days. On the sixth day I was bombing a hill, and my front heelside wheel just broke into thirds, and flew off my hanger. When i got up, and checked out my wounds I realized that my longskate suffered the most. My hanger, and two of my swiss bones bearings were ruined. That sucks, but it isn't my point. I emailed sector that night and told them about my mishap, and asked them if they had some kinda warranty, or what not for their products.
They seemed really cool about the whole thing they told nme that it would be in the mail, and I should expect it within three or four weeks. So I thought that their company couldn't be as bad as I had read about on this webring. To my dismay I was completely wrong. But anyway back to the story. This happened in the middle of last may. I checked my mail everyday for their wheel, but it never came. I waited until the middle of july, and decided to waste the $30 and an hour and a half car ride to The Warped tour, knowing that they had a stand there.
When I got there, I talked to "Corpoman." I told him about my problem, and showed him the wheel. I asked him if he had an extra wheel that he could kick down to me, because i had been waiting for 2 months already. I grew really impatient waiting all that time to skate my own board again. But he didn't help me, he was too busy drinking milwaukee's best, and handing out stickers. That was all good be cause I realized he is a buisness man :), and he had stuff to take care of. So that wasn't a huge problem either.
I ended up buying a new set of kryptonics before I went to school ( which by the way are still holding up strong), instead of waiting like a fool for a couple of more skate-less months. When I got back from school for christmas break. I emailed sector again asking about the same wheel from last may. I asked them if they treated all their customers like they have treated me, and asked them if they could possibly stay in business if thye did so. The reply I recieved 4 days later came form Marcus, Who appaerntly needed that long to whip up this amazing reply:

Sector9 Buyer beware

But that was straight, I realized that he had a job to do and all that, No worries. After getting back from college, I decide to email them again and ask them what was up. I asked them if they treated every customer the way they treated me, and asked them how they could possibly stay in business. They replied "

I first saw these and when I saw the mold seam on them I thought they were some sort of cheapie wheel. They all look to have a seam on them right around the inside bearing. I then saw them at the local sporting good stores on some less than sophisticated deck/truck combos. Good to hear that they are a decent wheel at a fair price. I had my doubts. Hey Manu, have you tried the Power Aluminators, it sounds like you dont like a super sticky wheel which the PPaws are. I think they are very grippy -more grippy than Turbowheels. Your comment on C-bombs sliding is interesting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that melting at high speeds is caused by a combination of pavement you are on, along with the durrometer. I wouldn't be suprised to hear that most wheel's blow out on the soft smooth black pavements around speeds of 55 and up. That type of street always seems to be a lot hotter than other's in my town. At least that's what I've noticed.

I agree with rene, it happened sometimes, but i can swear some of them are really resistant, several friends of mine use them on luges, Dave Rogers (who is a very fast rider ) Nicolas Gachou european champion in luge, I saw Rat sult use some too
and even if i'm not an example, i use them sometimes.
The last run i did on a 10 miles road was with the deep blue ones(clear) it was pretty fast, with 20 hairpins and max 55 mph they didn't melt.(maybe luckily !!!)
WARNING ! the 73 mm gravity or super mundos with sqare edges may melt, it happened to me a few month ago.
